Really concerned we haven’t strengthened and brought in a decent replacement for JOC yet, have we learned nothing from last year…..it was a signing that needed to be done over a year ago and yet we’re still in the same position….fingers crossed we can get someone of decent quality in quickly as I don’t have confidence in Robinson, and if any more injuries strike were fooked, defence for me at the minute is our weakest area going into the new season…

Dont get your knickers in a twist, Signing quality takes time and to me it looks like we are going after the quality not just get a body in because we can

Everyone needs to chill out abit

Ideally we would have had a couple in before Birmingham. I’d be lying if I said I wouldn’t be feeling more comfortable about the season if we had more than one proper centreback in the entire squad.

I’d say that the board have back us over the last few years and they must know where the gaping holes in the squad are (CB, CM and CREATIVITY).

chances are we will make a couple of signings. Chances are at least one of berge or ramsdale will pay for those.

If we can upgrade on Bryan, Jags and lundstram - our squad could look at least as strong as it did last year.

Maybe we are.
Getting someone to come to the Championship that is better than Robinson is not easy.
This, exactly! I don't understand why it's so hard to understand that bringing in quality players who will actually fit into the squad (and ideally improve it) takes time, especially at the moment when everyone is trying to squeeze every penny.

I am surprised by how slow we're moving. We should be pushing the boat out for Jake Cooper or Ben Davies.

Davies I agree on and I would think it's about agreeing the terms of the loan with Liverpool, assuming he's open to the move and hasn't received a more attractive offer. Whenever I've seen Cooper play, he's looked uncomfortable in possession so I'm not sure he would be on 'the list'.

I get (and agree with) the concerns about Robinson at CB or LCB in terms of size/physicality, distribution and overall ability, although there's a fair bit of difference between Prem and Champ strikers. My bigger concern with the defence is what would happen should Egan be injured / banned.

Defence wins titles in most cases, but that starts from the forwards.

I think Robinson can do a job at this level, but is he a title winning first XI centre half? Although I said the same about Martin Crainie.

D-fence is this another money making scheme thought up by Chansiri. Blokes a genius!

Are we still being linked with Max kilman from wolves?

I think that would be a very solid move.

It seemed like he stepped in and played well when called upon for wolves in the league above. Though I can’t say I know loads about him.

There are a lot more target men in the Championship and Robinson is poor in the air.

If he starts on Saturday, Jutkeiwicz will outmuscle him and score a backpost header.

You’re probably right but loans aren’t free either. We’re moving pretty slow and I’m wondering if finances have anything to do with it.
Maybe but I’d be pretty disappointed if we were having to seek prized assets to cover loan fees. I think we’re slow because we’re shopping for loans and teams don’t let them out early and I’d imagine we’re targeting specific loan players rather than ringing up a Man City and asking what centrebacks they have available.

The rumours went that we needed to bring in £40m before bringing anybody in.

I think we probably need to bring money in regardless of whether we sign anyone or not.

Some people on here are getting their hopes up based on the fact we haven’t sold Berge or Ramsdale yet. Some are saying we’re holding out because we don’t need to sell or the players don’t want to leave. I think it’s equally likely that we simply haven’t received any bids or the ones we have received have been derisory.

If we need to raise funds then we’ll get more open to haggling as the deadline approaches and buying clubs will know that. If I was after Berge, for example, I’d be pretty confident waiting until the final week and then starting with a fairly low first offer.

All the monies previously spent have been spread throughout the period of their contracts; subsequently we have no immediate need to raise funds but need to ensure that we have the relevant monies available for stage payments as and when required. This could be extended to at least the end of this season.

Why would Millwall loan us Cooper?
If you’re talking about a purchase then where are you getting the money from? Who are you selling?
WRT Davies, like the other loans they aren’t going to move until they’re sure there are no better options.
I really don’t get where some of us get these expectations from, they're totally unrealistic.

Agree, we are probably still paying off instalments on a good number of those signings in cash (not accounting wise).

mcburnie
Ramsdale
Berge
Brewster

I’d guess we probably stilll owe somewhere in the region of 40m of the 120m we spent on players.

But it’s not surprising to me we haven’t been splashing the cash so far to me. We will need the parachute payment to settle those liabilities before we start signings going for big money buys.

I thought we paid a significant amount upfront in order to get ourselves to the front of the queue as the selling clubs preferred option?

you might be right…

I’m literally just speculating but I feel it’s unlikely we paid it all out upfront when we had promotion bonuses and PL upgrades to make at the same time.

£40m would be about a 1/3 of the transfer fees so we’ve paid say 70% of it. As a finger in the air

Goalkeeper. We aren't 100% sure if Rammers is staying, although I feel he will at least until January.
We saw Verrips again with the shoulder problem at Donny.
Foderingham may not be the best GK we've ever had.

I think we should sign another two keepers in case some of our existing ones get sold or injured. Same thing applies to left backs and strikers
