Winning games would be an obvious answer but he has 2 months to wait for that so what can Danny Wilson our new manager do to earn your FULL support as manager? First he needs to never mention his piggy connection again it is all about sheffield united now and getting us promoted this season. He needs to express his desire to keep as many players as possible and that his no 1 and only aim is promotion. The more he mentions "when i was at sheffield wednedsay" the more fans will hate him, the more he mentions the fans not liking do to his sheffield wednesday connection the more the fans will hate him.

I wasn't happy with his appointment purely down to his record and like other managers of recent times the jury will be out on him until we start playing football and winning games. I hope he succeeds because i could not bare another season of disappointment and changing of manager(s).

Winning, and doing a double over the dirties - the guy has a massive job on his hands!

But I would suggest that all EXPECTATIONS from us have been REMOVED.

Anything other Relegation will be a BONUS.

You weren't happy based on his record yet you say he is an insult to Alehouse, the bigest joke we have ever had.

Back to drawing board for you son.

Been a few u-turns already on here where people have obviously thought after posting some outright drivel yesterday, what if Danny does win a few early on.

Winning games, signing some decent replacement for the players we will sell and filling the void that we had with loan players with some experienced pro's. We need a balance of youth and experience, morgan coming back will be massive, if he gets him on side then we might just see alot of people change their opinions on him.

Getting morgan to be as vocal as he has been about the appointment is a shrewd move I.M.O as any blade worth his salt cant knock Morgan, great leader and club captain for a reason.

good luck to Wilson, i said it before he was appointed and ill say it now, he needs our support. Judge him at christmas, not before he's even been on the training pitch.

He needs to bring the young players through & keep hold of as many as possible.
Win football matches & get us promotion whilst all the while keeping Mccabe at bay as best as possible........

An impossible task i think.

Winning games obviously. But in the close season I would like to see:

- Positive relationship with Pembo - including brining through several of the youngsters through to player next year
- Clearing out the junk: Creswell, Collins, etc must go. Big earners like Monty and Simmo will have to go and fringe players like Boggy, Ertl and Yeates should probably be shipped out.
- Prioritising and keeping the key players: keeping Quinn, Hendo and Williamson to build youth around.
- Bringing in players: signing players from the lower leagues that are hungry, talented and want to wear the shirt
- Bringing some pride and improving morale/confidence

Mostly I want to see him showing that he has a vision: looking to build a team, playing some decent football, clearing out the overpaid junk, using the youth and winning games. If he does this then I will support him. I am fully behind him now, but I will be watching closely. As with many fans I will not have a lot of patience, but if he shows he is the right man for the job (doing some, or all, of the above) then I will back him and give him time.

- Several is too many. Maybe one more alongside Maguire and Slew, the rest aren't ready.

- Much easier said than done. Most are on long contracts.

- These are also high earners.

- We're in the lower leagues. Talented would cost money we don't have.

- I don't think this was the right appointment to achieve that.

The key to his acceptance for me is his being able to show a total grasp of the football side of things.

I want him to demonstrate that he has a vision of how we should play and I'd like to be able to see how every one of his team selections fits into that.

I want to see evidence of tactical awareness and a side well drilled enough to cope with a plan B and/or C other than just lump it up to the big man.

Most of all, I'd like him to show that he is in charge of implementing his strategy and to resist all attempts by McCabe to sell key elements of it.

I can't see it happening, mind.

Yes his appointment was an insult because what have we gained? However there is nothing we can do about his appointment now and we have to look ahead which is what i am doing. This is not u-turn, people know they have to accept his appointment now and support the team we all love.

For me, the initial feeling was one of being completely underwhelmed. I couldn't care less that he used to play for and manage Wednesday - I support United.

Wilson will get the same support from me that Blackwell, Speed, Adams and even Robson did. I just hope that he can keep that support up because with all four of the previous managers, I found it increasingly hard to stomach their approach. If Wilson can reach back to his Barnsley days and recover the "just like watching Brazil" approach then he'll do fine.

I suppose too a lot will rest on the first few dealing in the transfer market. If the first moves are expected departures (Montgomery, Evans etc) then not many will be concerned. If he can shift on some of the dross (Doyle, Collins, Cresswell) then he'll get some more support but that will be easier said than done. If the first moves involve selling some of the FAYC squad he's going to find it almost impossible to mend the bridges a lot of fans will consider - rightly or wrongly - burnt.

Wilson has the same ideas on Football as Pembo. I see happy Days ahead

I 100% agree with this post. The wage bill can be reduced to a sensible level for this division and key players retained (and these are the 3 to keep) so long as we have a strategy on disposals and don't start a firesale letting everybody go to the first bidder.

Again I'd much rather see us signing promising youngsters instead of has beens and never weres, and are unlikely to be demanding the same level of wages.

I also think Wilson is capable of delivering the footballing style we're looking for, but there were several other managers out there who could have done the same and the fans would certainly have given them longer to deliver.

To a degree Wilson will be continuing with the policy, I would hope, of bringing in younger, up and coming, players to add to and supplement the Senior Lads that will remain.

Morgs obviously a given, Quinny maybe. Hendo too. So as mentioned the players released, high earners, will be funding additions. Small amounts may be considered for key players to fill gaps in the squad, I`ve never heard directly that there will be nothing to spend, money was made available for the loans, albeit too late to halt the decline.

A fast start would clearly help, but let`s bear in mind the noises from the terraces when we did at least start to pass the ball around on the deck. Some of that early in the season may hopfully help appease some sections of support, help the team go forward and build some momentum,at the end of the day, we all want to see OUR club, back competing in The Championship, or, ultimately at the highest level.

UTB.

Apart from repeating what most have said on here about playing attractive, winning football, I'd like to see him showing a bit of passion on the sidelines, not just stood there shoe gazing like Adams did.

get rid of the maestro and i'll be on board.. i'm sure some of his many suitors and admirers will be in for him soon. .what do you mean they aren't?

Pre season, what is unlikely to occur:

Any signings that excite us,
Retention of ALL the youth players coming through

What is likely to occur:

At least 1 of the youth players if not more going,
A couple of the old heads that could make a difference also being shown the door,
Underwhelming friendlies,
A little bewilderment at some of the unknowns signed by Wilson

So lets just get that straight. Only the last point pertaining to new signings will be anything to do with Wilson so lets also be clear on that before we blame him for everything that unfolds pre-season. It's also fair to say that on balance, much of the above will lend itself to the fact we are now a league one club, more that McCable being the anti-christ! though I'm sure at least one undervalued player departure will manage to infuriate me!

Now onto the optimistic stuff:

I think for the most part that the youth team will remain, and will continue to yield first team opportunities for a good number of them.
I think any signings Wilson make will be more than half decent. He knows the players at this level, better than we do, and right now we are a step up for any player at that level - but we will not be able to verify this until we see them in action (aside from some limited knowledge of their past exploits).

To summarise, Wilson can't do much to enhance his standing or motivate his doubters until the first ball is kicked. Pre season will not have many answers, just hopes. Some decent football, and at least 7 points from our first 4 games with an impression that the team we have seen over the first four games is one that seems to be taking shape in a consistent manner is what will make people take note. And even then, some folk will be waiting for a banana skin. He could turn a bad start around but it would be messy even after the first game or two. Out all guns blazing. He must attack (lose 4-3 then tweak the defence if its going to go a little wrong) as opposed to being cautious and building it up gradually because he has not got that luxury and that is the key which makes his challenge a difficult one!

If we start poorly he will have nowhere to go.
What if he starts with the same record as MA for first 16 games?
Will there be the same level of patience?
Since we don't know what will be left and who will leave, this is not as far fetched as it might appear.
We may be left with just kids plus the likes of Collins, Taylor and Doyle.
Reducing the wage bill from £12m to £4m will not be an easy task.

The maestro? I thought he drove a vauxhall viva

New Blades Boss Has Got His Work Cut Out

In an article on GiveMeFootball DW states that, “It won’t be easy but Sheffield United is a juggernaut which, if we get some momentum behind it, is going to be very difficult to stop.”

It's an often used word is 'juggernaut' so I thought I would look it up. I see two descriptions that are quite apt.

1. any large, overpowering, destructive force or object used in battle

2. anything requiring blind devotion or cruel sacrifice

He's not wrong there then!
