With all the talk of the youth team coming threw to the first team and our beloved chairman saying we need to surround them with elder experianced players who in our current squad would you drop and who would you keep and who would you bring in from the lower divisions to help ?

Id like us to keep Morgs,Quinn,Risse (offer him a contract quick) Lowton,Williamson and Lowry at a push. The rest for me can get dropped

Id like them to bring in Brown (not much chance of that) Le Fondre,Davies

I think Le Fondre will end up in the Champ.

Quinn will be gone, Riise too expensive. Brown - not a chance.

That's what I think at the moment. Although all could change depending who the manager is. i.e. - can see more chance of getting Le Fondre if Robins is appointed, having worked with him.

I'd keep Lowton and Morgs, Quinn OR Monty, Willo and Henderson if we could afford it.
Apart from Qunn/Monty and Chedward, 'd give the rest free transfers in the hope somebody might sign them up. Even then we might have to reach some sort of agreement with the others as I think they might still struggle to get the wages they're on here anywhere else, but we need to take the opportunity to clear the decks.

Looking at the development squad and the academy team then I still think we'd have to sign a goalkeeper, a left back, a right sided midfielder with pace and a striker in order to be competitive, and not put too much pressure on the younger players.

The squad I'd like to see :-
Goalkeepers - New keeper, Long
Defenders - Lowton, Morgan, Kennedy, New Left Back, Maguire, Warren Coneely
Midfield - Quinn, Williamson, McAllister, New RS Midfielder/Winger, Harriot, Lokberg,
Gardos
Forwards - Henderson, Slew, New Striker, Philliskirk

Sold - Quinn or Montgomery, Evans
Disposed of - Simonsen, Aksalu, Kozluk, Collins, Ertl, Taylor, Doyle, Yeates, Cresswell, Bogdanovic

Another summer another person wants Brown. Rumour had it NW was in for him for QPR. Would imagine if they are sniffing he would go there, totally different player now though.

He's 34 now, no way he'll get a Prem club. McCabe wanted him this season by all accounts and he keeps talking about moulding the kids around 'key experienced pros' so I still think he could yet finish up with us if the money could be sorted. He's been earning in excess of a million a season for the last 5 or 6 years so surely going somewhere like Barnsley for a bit more cash wouldn't sway him.

Whoever leaves, I hope they start to filter out sooner rather than later. I presume we won't invest much, but imagine we won't be able to sign anyone until a few of the higher earners have moved on.

Unfortunately, the merry-go-round doesn't start spinning until contracts run out at the end of next month.

I agree its important that we move on the players we dont want, dont need and cant afford first of all and then see where that leaves us in terms of squad.

Its important that we focus on quality rather quantity in terms of experienced first-teamers to allow space for the talented development and youth players to come through.

Hopefully, McAllister and Tonne will be pushing for starts next season and the likes of Long, Maguire, Kennedy, Harriott, Whitehouse and Slew are ready for the first team squad.

From the side that played Tuesday night I would say only 3-4 are ready for the first team squad next season, AND they shouldn't be playing more than 20 games.

They just aren't ready and your likely to do more damage throwing them in too early. Terry Kennedy probably is ready technically but needs to be given time to develop physically before he is thrown about by League One forwards.

Harry can deal with the bruisers and Target men, Terry is more than ready to deal with the Billy Sharp types. At the end of the day Man Utd weren't a team of anorexic dwarves!

You missed Erik Tonne who will almost certainly be in the squad

As I say quite often in reference to these kind of debates.....the physical and technical improvement only comes with playing games. If they dont play they'll never be ready. As you say though, experience should be drip-fed to avoid burn out.

If i were the boss none of the 1st team would be at BDTBL next season ......... they ought to be ashamed of themselves.

Sorry I disagree, they arent developed enough for me, and I dont see how their bodies are going to fill out by playing games. It will come naturally, which is why player like Rooney excel at a young age because he could shave before he could sit up. You might get away with wingers but not centre halves or others in the mix.

I'll chip in, I think what Steel is referencing in the physical side is physical toughness as a opposed to strength and body mass, body mass can be added rather quickly but it has to be managed and watched for because it can also hamper players other abilities, where as the toughness side will only come from playing physically demanding games, you can't really replicate the demands the game will have at that level unless the players play at that level.
Training may help people highlight the technical aspects but it will never and should never replicate the full demands on the body because it will in turn cause more injuries.

As of the technical side, training these days really helps with this side but again it's not a total package because the game and training pace will be completely different.

I totally agree with the fact that players should be drip feed chances as it will in time give them some required experience, but limiting players chances can be as equally detrimental to their development. I would suggest we loan a few players out to League 1 and 2 clubs even Conference clubs, it's a bit more difficult now but we should look at some of the youngsters that are very close to making it being sent to League 2, Conference clubs too.
