Missed the game, the first time this season. Glad we won, but to be honest, I haven't missed much by the sound of it and the hesgoal stream was unavailable. I also booked for me and my missus to get a bite to eat to celebrate today being thirty years since we met. She's been with my through this oddessey - away end at The Dell for Zico Lake's goal, several tedious home and away games win lose and draw and was with me when Corky broke away at Wembley as we were the only two screaming being sat partly amongst pig fans. She's also seen me depressed and elated in equal measures at the Wigan game and Tongy's brace vs Liverpool, and sat through my swearing and cursing at the shower of shit this season. We've met players and managers, our lad has been mascot, and she's bought me countless Blades kits and accoutrements, sometimes shipping them out to me overseas whilst deployed. And we both stood in that car park two years ago in possibly the most wonderful day I've had as a Blades fan. So I think I owed her, rather than that lot today.

Thanks to everyone who has pressed like on 'My take ... ' this season and especially those who have contributed either way to the match debate. Some have not been quite as focussed and for those you'll be relieved to know that 'My takes ...' will not be as regular next season for obvious reasons. I do hope maybe you can contribute your own take on the match so others can be as charitable.

Anyway, it's all over. Possibly the most pivotal and noteworthy season in Sheffield United's history simply because of our shocking collapse in performance and form. We've lost so much, cash in dud players, reputation as a footballing side and faith as supporters and moreover, Chris Wilder as a manager found out for footballing tactics, leadership and consistency. The season end couldn't come quick enough for me and I don't think I have ever felt that ... ever. We've always had a dog in the fight but this season has been a comprehensive example of how not to play football at the top level. The last two seasons have also shown lessons on how not to scout and recruit, even at vast expense. None of our purchases have even been near their value and our system is deeply flawed. And we are still without a permanent manager with all sorts of grim rumours as to who may be in charge next season, and expectation running low.

It's hoped a vast clear out of our Premier League failures is inbound and really, no one can deny this is what is needed, coupled with a new strategy which doesn't surrender advantage and actually creates the crackle of excitement missing for so long. If we sell cheap to improve, so be it, as long as there is improvement and we don't do the Sheffield United thing to sell cheap to buy cheap, simply to further decline.

Thanks for everyone's support, thanks to my fellow reviewers and view-fromers, thanks to the video blog teams for some pretty bloody epic, professional output and thanks to our football club as a football club, if not the players who really, haven't graced themselves with much noteworthy praise. I felt destroyed when we dropped the final day against Chelsea, and similarly versus Wigan but now I feel like a patient with a terminal illness now waiting for death to quietly overtake now the life support has been switched off.

Here's to our resurrection next season. Don't let us down, lads.

Cheers for the reports pompey. A light hearted take on a pathetic dog turd excuse for a season, the ultimate 2nd season syndrome if ever there was one. Have a great summer and keep it up next year!

Got to say pommpey , that while I may not have always fully agreed with you, I have really enjoyed these threads this season. A lighthearted, acerbic, foul-mouthed (but I think eloquently so), record of our utter shitshow of a season, has given me many a laugh after some truly horrendous performances.

Hope to see as many as you can manage next season. Hopefully with a somewhat happier tone!

Anyway, as a late-lamented poster would have said,

Ta x

Well done Pomp. and respect for looking after your missus who sounds a real diamond. ( Must be to put up with you hey ?! - just kidding.)

Lets lock this season up and throw away the key/. Better things to come surely
Keep the Faith.

Much appreciated fella, hard to have disagreed with most of what you've taken the time to write this season, and yes, glad it's finally over.
Here's to the next season and fingers crossed, onwards and upwards.

Thanks buddy

Always enjoy the inputs and the way you deliver them

Anyway, for a Blade who started his journey in Sept 1970 ( 3-0 behind to Bristol City before we pulled back to 3-3) and from that moment fell in love with the red and white Wizzards - with no expectations other than to have no expectations - to all the other sufferers and dreamers - happy summer

we will be back

we always have

Missed the last two, moving house and no Internet 😖.
Thanks Pommpey, great read and great entertainment thrown in.

looking forward to next season and new adventures with the new manager.

Cracking read pommpey as always and look forward to your take next season!

Forgive me if I’m sadly mistaken or even if it’s been mentioned on here before as I’m new on here,,,,,, are you by any chance the guy that used to ring Sheffield after a match and end with the scream COYRAWW??

I for one will miss your “my take” as it was always very much worth a read and constructively put together even if I didn’t always agree , it was your take not mine ha ! Keep them up fella as often as you can . Content like yours will be missed when it’s not around !!
As ever UTB !

I have loved your 'My Takes.' They are not for everyone but that is the point of a forum. Some things you may read and enjoy and others less so. I think amongst the ire, there is some quality gags and writing in there and thoughtful analysis. Long may they continue. They make this forum a brighter and more entertaining place.

Similarly me old, yours are Green 'Un ready. The sort of stuff I used to pore over word for word to pick out the detail and next season will be very much a staple for all.

Similarly the blog also adds dimension which is appreciated. Like many things in this game, you are not forced to agree with everything but then again, nudge the fan sat next to you on the JSS and tell him or her Norwood is fucking useless and they'll possibly tell you you ar talking out of your arse (as he hits the first man with a corner or gives the ball away ... again)

That's football.

Looking forward to your end of season review. That IS compelling reading because it contains so much of what we have overlooked or conveniently forgotten.

Nah. Never rung a radio phone in. Wouldn't know what to say without swearing!

Remember the lad who often came on radio Sheffield after the games on the way home, forget his name but he was a very passionate blade who liked to give his opinion on the game and signed off with 'come on you red and white wizzzzzzzards' I believe he moved to Portsmouth some years ago, could that young man be pompey?

A proper Character pommpey and I always loved this about my clubs fans, we have some Reyt characters!

we are up there with the best and every TV network has rattled on about this repeatedly for weeks!

that’s our positivity, let’s stick together all Blades and maintain our uniqueness that is Sheffield United!!

Keep contributing pommpey, you’re massively part of what makes us what we are!

Anyone who calls a station and didn’t need the presenter whatsoever for what used to be around 5 minutes of uninterrupted spoken word, we’d wait for those calls, during the Warnock era, me and the lads in the car on the way to the local, after those big nights those calls where the icing on the cake! CLASS!

if that’s not you pommpey, you’re the written word equivalent of the other Blade from Portsmouth of the spoken word.

Always enjoy your posts after a match Pommpey. Dont agree with everything you say, often agree with a lot. The beauty of a forum like this.

I'm bloody glad this season is FINALLY over, considering it has really been over for months. We dust ourselves off and go again. Up the Blades.

I think so

Yes well done Pommey, you almost hit the nail on the head every time. Always a good read from you if not a little over critical at times. But as you've said before all about opinions (as opposed to fine margins). But enjoyed your posts! Well done from a Blade who really cares. Its not much fun being trapped in Manchester for some of us.............but anyway well said Sir! Bobby.
