Daniel Jebbison and Antwoine Hackford for England.

? What ya mean Phil
The First Team have a lot of injuries
The First Team are not playing very well
The old Manager has been "sacked"
Some Academy games are now live streamed
Many more have YouTubed highlights
The U23s have won their league (albeit Division 3)
As a Premier League team, we can afford a dedicated Academy Social Media person
All of which means we, understandably & correctly, have a sharp focus on our Academy lads.
But, what if they've simply been projected above where they actually are?
What if people are seeing a trick of the light?
Is there a danger fans are imagining performances that aren't there?
For eg - I saw posters suggesting Ayari for the First Team before he'd played U23s.
Antwoine Hackford has scored just three U23 goals.
In our current circumstances fans want to believe they've all been banging goals in day in day out in Academy games - they haven't.

None of them are anywhere near Tyler Smith's 22 goal pre live stream, pre YouTube highlights, hidden by the First Team winning, if it wasn't on Twitter it didn't happen, breakout season. (He scored today I see) (He's still our player).

Balance & Context are needed to help us judge the current crop imho.

Do you mean DCL ? shows what can be
acheaved with a bit of patience
I'm not picking on you Mate. But I am making a point here. We've had a 22 goal a season U23 player. And it certainly wasn't Dominic. But, those fairly recent performances seem to have just disappeared off the radar in the rush to push. You'd think people would know - wouldn't you? Tyler Smith.

Think that bench slot is probably his now for a while at least until ndiaye is fit. Hackford seems to just be going through a bit of a slump at the minute and jebbison hasn’t done himself any harm.
Hackford is a child. There's no reason at all he was near the 1st team other than somebody proving a point....

Of course they are. But with basically half the season being a preparation for the future, a squad both poorly structured and wracked with injuries and a group of youth players having success it certainly feels like an opportunity wasted for 10-20 minutes pregame to be dedicated to a test of a players ability to hold their own

Perfectly reasonable argument.
Slater, Norrington-Davies, Smith have all finished their seasons at Loan Clubs this weekend. And Sheffield United FC have three games left. That's another opportunity right there.

One of a few positives of hecky taking charge giving a few youngsters a little run out, give them 20 mins here and there and then we can see if they'll make the grade giving them 0 mins or 90 mins every week is toxic at that age.

Ty has scored fairly regularly when he's played for Swindon this season, he was out of the team for a long time because Sheridan fell out with him and froze him out, which was supposedly a reason for him eventually getting the sack.

Wright came in, played Ty more and he scored more.

As Kyron keeps saying...

"When he plays, he scores"

I've got big hopes for him next season ⚔🤞🏻

"Luckily" I've managed to preserve some memories of the first times I saw Daniel play.

He scored United's SECOND goal with only 67 SECONDS on the clock in the game I first really noticed him. (Won 9-0 v Dronfield Town)

In the Youth Cup v Wimbledon, he came on at 60, with Utd one down. He had an immediate impact, equalising within 2 minutes of coming on, and bagging what turned out to be the winner on 80.

Completely different performance in the next round v Cat 1 Fulham. Andre Brooks was sent off on 20. Del had to reshuffle everything. Went 4 4 1, with Daniel as the lone striker. His work rate in that role was phenomenal. Running channels. Winning headers. Providing an outlet. He even had a few chances as well. (Bit clumsy at times getting the ball out from his feet). Great effort, although we lost 2-1 in the end.

The chaos at Swindon this season has probably hurt him in terms of playing for United next year. If he’d gone got minutes in a stable side and had a scoring record to reflect that he might’ve had a strong chance of a squad spot as it is he might need another prove it loan even though as you say he’s goal ratio is good.

You might be right there Yogi, smarter than the average bear as per usual! Although in this case I hope you're wrong!

I hope the team at Shirecliffe know enough about him to realise that Sheridan is an idiot and can hopefully see that he'd have probably hit 15-20 for Swindon had he been a regular starter.

FWIW his cousin seems to think that SUFC had a major word in Swindon's ear about the lack of game time and that that also perhaps had a role in his dismissal

1:40 (again) - Ty's goal. Very well taken.

I'm aware this is a thread about Jebbo and Hackford but I still think Ty should be ahead of them next season and reckon he will bang a fair few in...

...if we can start creating chances!

I would imagine united having a word is right. He was on the same pathway as RND and the Swindon loan was probably with a view to catapulting him into championship contention like Rochdale did for RND.

A bit harsh. He's been scoring for the U18s and U23s. I'd be surprised if he isn't involved for our next game.
Eddie I hope he is involved, I wasn't having a go at him but at the management who seem to have had a scatter gun approach to which youngster gets on the pitch or the bench to then disappear back to the academy sides. I thought he made some intelligent runs and looked more dangerous than Burke or Brewster have the last 8 weeks .

Jebbo needs 6 months loan for a league 2/league 1 team to get him some minutes and senior goals. If he sets the place on fire then we can fast track him back in - if he isnt ready then extend it to a season long loan.
Even that may be a year top early for him and he might best having another year nurtured at the academy being only just about to turn 18

Get him to Rotherham for a season, hopefully bag himself a couple against the pigs!

I'd be amazed if an EFL team were prepared to take a lad who has started just 9 U23 games. Huge gamble that....

The answer to the above is "shurrupandgerreminfirstteam".

What was Sharp's record at Academy level(albeit the ages for the leagues were a bit different back then)?

Just as a matter of interest Ball_Sup (Phil) what do you see as the criteria the club applies to seeing who is best going out on loan and who is best staying inside and finding a path to this first team within the club?

Any inkling as to who candidates for loan out next year would be?

I won't hold you to it! Just based on your experience of watching and may patterns you can assertain?

It’s about 1 in 2, if you take into account minutes played.
Only 17 starts. Amazing he didn't start more games with around a 1 in 2 record. I like the look of him from the bits I've seen. Taken his goals well, looks hungry, wants to get in behind the centre backs, looks reasonably strong even though he's small and gives the impression he enjoys every goal he scores. Genuinely think he'd be more of asset than quite a few of the current forwards, who look lost.

Disclaimer. Just guessing here.
The trick is to identify long term potential & create a pathway within the club for that particular individual. That's the gold dust. Slightly different context. But that's what Everton were able to do with Dominic. One of the Carrier Bag Firm scouts for United. I've had him up against the wall & interrogated him on identifying potential. I'm basically none the wiser. Look, there's been a lot of turmoil. Up, quickly, from L1. Short stay. Covid. Nick Cox, Travis Binnion, John Dungworth, Mick Wadsworth, Andrew Hughes, Heckingbottom (temporarily), Wilder, all gone. So, it's difficult to guage our strategy any more. Historically, it's been seen to be - a young U23 side, establish at U23, loan to non league, loan to EFL, with particular attention to where he'll get game time. Rhys, Regan & Tyler are a long way down that path. (Before injury) Jean Belehouan & Harry Boyes are on that path. Even David Brooks was on that path before he shook it all up at Toulon. My view is that United have tended to be conservative about creating internal pathways. And have tended to prefer the loans through the pyramid. Of course, that'll partly be because our real potential kids (Dominic & Aaron) were pinched to PL clubs before we could pathway them. That's a long winded way of saying - I don't know. But, I think there's a simplicity to it. Obvious, can't ignore it, potential - try to pathway him internally. Good, keep going, needs to learn, potential - pyramid loans.
If we ever get settled, the candidates for non league loans would be Brunt, Gordon, Gomis, Neal, maybe Maguire. Hackford & Jebbison & Ayari & Cappello are still young. Personally, I feel they'd benefit from Shirecliffe & U23 football for a bit. It hasn't worked out in Belgium for Broadbent. He sort of needs to start again in the pyramid.
My view is that Dewhurst, Boyes & Ndiaye are the ones at the moment who need special attention. A contact told me in the January window Boyes was headed to L2. But, that didn't work out. I'd like to see him go to quality non league or L2. I really like him. I'd like to see a goalkeeper cull. With a clear pathway for Marcus. If we are able to keep Aaron, maybe Foderingham, Moore, Eastwood go. Verrips on the bench. Marcus clearly next in line. Playing U23 every week. And with the first team for League Cup, etc. Amissah out on non league loan.
Currently, if we are to have an internal pathway, I'd have it for Ndiaye as a potential future 10. What does that mean? It doesn't mean promoting him when he's not ready, it doesn't mean sticking him in for the sake of it. It means let him see the path, and don't buy journeymen squad players in his position to block him off. I always harp on about Dominic. He was around the first team, we bought Steven Davies, blocked him off, he dropped all the way back to the 18s, hello Everton.

Going back to your infamous roster of players Phil, I picture people like N'Diaye needing to be that third choice, on the list. Either playing every week for the U23s, with regular slots on the bench for cup games/due to injuries OR out on a loan, ready to come back and take the second slot (like RND this season). We should essentially have an XI from that third column, who are all under 21/22. The fourth column then being frequent regulars in the U-23s or out on loan at a non-league side.

I think this creates the right pathway and like you say, stops us signing these squad fillers on higher wages who aren't much, if at all, any better.

I know it's not real life, but whenever I play football manager, I try and follow that principle to create a proper pathway.
