I ve seen several posts on here that seem to think next season we ll be back in the mix for promotion or even automatic.
Not a hope in hell in my opinion.

First of all, the manager situation.
Its been 6 weeks now since Widers departure and we are still no closer to a definate replacement. If the powers that be are serious about our return to the so called best league in the world ,surely someone of substance would have been brought in by now. We dont even look close to signing anyone of note. Knowing our history it is going to be either Heckinbottom or Tindle. In which case God help us.

Now the squad.
High chance Berge will be gone , if not in the close season then definitely by January. Similarly with Egan, JOC and maybe Ramsdale and Baldock.

Leaving us with a nucleus of who exactly?

Billy, McGoldrick and Basham. All good solid pro's but ageing.

Jimmy (not John) Fleck. Norwood. Stevens. All of them half the players they were last season. Osborn, Busy player with potential in Championship
Bryan, Lowe, Bogle. Inconsistent at best
Rodwell and Robinson, medicore Championship level. Jags, excellent pro but ancient.

And an attack force of:
Mcburnie, hardly a prolifict goalscorer. Brewster, (did we really pay £23 million????) not a sniff of a goal in 24 appearnces. Burke. speed of a cheetah, football ability of a cheetah. Mousset (see Burke)

Lundstrum, well we all know his situation. The thing that worries me most is, who in their right mind will come in for him even on a free. Please dont let him stay.

I know we have bright prospects in some of our youngsters but knowing us of old they will not be given the opportunity of first team football with us but most likely be off loaded cheap.

Unless we get a manager who knows the championship well, and can motivate this depleted, lack of confidence bunch we currently have , then we are screwed. He will also need to be backed to bring in good quality players at this level. Our history does not bode well in this case.

I predict another long hard season in which we will finish bottom half. I hope I'm wrong and will be happy to be proved so.

Tin hat now on.

It may be comforting to know that these are just the opinions of the vocal minority, and that most of us are decent, level headed people who believe we're dropping back to league one.

Tin armour more like !
We don’t know that significant steps have not been taken in getting a new manager and signing new players. Hecky hinted that progress on the latter had been made.
I doubt that as many will leave as you suggest and those that are left will be very good at Championship level.
I don’t think we will fly through like Norwich but we will be in the top half and probably top six.
Many teams in the Championship have huge financial problems and will be weaker next season than this, so the overall standard will not be great.
MAYBE we can go to Wembley next May and win for a change ! Whether being in the Premiership again so soon is a good thing I don’t know but let’s find out !

We don't have a manager and the squad is likely to see sizable changes. How could you possibly know either way?

It may be comforting to know that these are just the opinions of the vocal minority, and that most of us are decent, level headed people who believe we're dropping back to league one.
I would question the level headed bit.
Next year’s Championship will be a poor standard with many struggling financially and the odd one or two having points deducted.
Relegation for us would seem unlikely

There are some people it all depends what happens in the Summer
First of all, the manager situation.

How would you know we are no closer ?

If the powers that be are serious about our return to the so called best league in the world ,surely someone of substance would have been brought in by now.
Depends if the manager we want in is free to come in at the moment
We dont even look close to signing anyone of note. Knowing our history it is going to be either Heckinbottom or Tindle. In which case God help us.

Stop being a drama queen :)

Now the squad.

Cant see any takers for JOC he may not even be fit for the start of next season
Berge will probably go which will give us much needed funds
Egan is replaceable
Ramsdale is replaceable if we get the money we paid for him I would like to keep him
If we got £10m for Baldock I would let him go

Leaving us with a nucleus of who exactly?

Billy, McGoldrick and Basham. All good solid pro's but ageing.

I would let Stevens go Lowe and Bryan will be ok squad players for the Championship
Fleck should be ok when totally fit, Norwood who knows
Rodwell will have gone, Robinson again possibly be ok as back up
I can see there being a cull of 'squad' players
And an attack force of:
Mcburnie, hardly a prolifict goalscorer. Brewster, (did we really pay £23 million????) not a sniff of a goal in 24 appearnces. Burke. speed of a cheetah, football ability of a cheetah. Mousset (see Burke)
I would get rid of McBurnie if we have any interest
I predict Brewster will come good in the Championship
Moose and Burke I would try to get rid of. Burke has pace but little else
I know we have bright prospects in some of our youngsters but knowing us of old they will not be given the opportunity of first team football with us but most likely be off loaded cheap.
Where do you get the idea that our youngsters will be sold off cheap
There is a lot of 'hype' about the young ones
Some of them may not be good enough for Championship level football
Unless we get a manager who knows the championship well, and can motivate this depleted, lack of confidence bunch we currently have , then we are screwed. He will also need to be backed to bring in good quality players at this level. Our history does not bode well in this case.
Our history is just that history its in the past, we have a new owner and up to now hes provided funds for player recruitment we will find out in the Summer if we are serious about a return to the PL
At the end of the day the only way he makes money is by SUFC being a PL club
I predict another long hard season in which we will finish bottom half. I hope I'm wrong and will be happy to be proved so

Too early to say what will happen next season as there are too many unknowns

i think your being overly pessimistic big big difference in quality between the premier league and championship lets give these guys a chance first eh ?

I think we have the core of a very good Championship squad; at the moment its spirit has been broken by this clusterfuck of a season.

We need the right manager to come in, shake things up, get us playing attacking football, and make the players feel like winners again.

We need a clever transfer strategy to trim the dead wood (there's loads), sell one or two big players to fund a rebuild, and then add pace, flair, and creativity in midfield and out wide.

We need the fans back in and we need them to be patient because it's not likely to click all at once.

If all those things fall into place then we could easily bounce back straight away. If we don't get at least a majority of this right then we could struggle. It's hard to predict which way it's going to go.

I'm looking forward to games without VAR, games where we can actually celebrate goals without having to stop after a few seconds whilst tea and cake is served at stockley park!
Match day that actually has a buzz about it again, the sound, the atmosphere of the Lane, the possibility of actually winning games again!!
What will be will be, but I'm sure we wont go down to league 1 straightaway, we have enough quality to finish mid table surely!?

I would rather we took our time and got the right man in than rush the appointment.

Unless your privy to inside info you don't know what is happening behind the scenes.

Let's see what decisions the board make in the next couple of months before casting judgement.

You could be right or you could be wrong
Who knows ?

Not me

Not a chance, they were not that great and certainly not as fit as current players.
Our squad are full of god Championship players, they were not.
Fire power of Hatton Edwards and Morris Central midfield of Trusson and Matthews MacPhail and Kenworthy,Kenworthy getting 16 goals that season .We didn't get beat at home that season beating the European Champions Arsenal 1.0 and taking them to extra time at Arsenal you sure

Could be ‘our’ man has commitments with his current team until the end of the season personally I’m not over worried I do believe things are in hand the money saved on not paying wages on a manager adds to our bank balance
