Get the best of the youth cup side and give them enough exposure to first team football over the next 5 games to gather an idea of those who’ll become useful first team assets in the near future. Get them tied into decently paid long term contracts.

Lock Simonson, Quinn, Monty, Morgan & Lowton in a cupboard all pre-season so nobody can find them to sign contracts elsewhere. These few are the foundations for the structure we need to build over the next year or two.

Get rid of the rest (and I do mean ALL of them). Any that stay must only be in a bit part role. The likes of Doyle, Cresswell, Henderson and Bogdanovic are half decent league one players but we cant have them cluttering up the dressing room and stopping the progression of youth and what we hope to achieve in the long run. If any stay, they must be seen as only rotation players, experienced heads to fill a shirt on when needed. They must not fill gaps that would be better served progressing players and a system which we hope will form the basis and identity of SUFC in the long term.

Compliment the nucleus highlighted above with the young and hungry from league 1 & 2, and nearly men from the top teams, if knowledge permits extend the searches through Scotland and the continent – Adopt the policy of any purchases must be under 25 and in it for the long term. Older heads must be just that, squad players with the required experience to pass on and help the development of others but not seen as main stays of the first team.

DO NOT LOAN ANYBODY EXCEPT IN THE EVENT OF AN INJURY CRISIS – all players must be our own. This is vital – we are planning on long term structure and this is not achieved by borrowing from other teams and player who hang around for a month or tow.

It may take a year or two in league one for this to bear fruit properly, but it’s the only way to make significant progress from here.

I agree with all of this apart from Monty. If we are to be challenging to get out of div1 then we don't need players like Monty. Strangely enough he would be more suited to battling at the bottom of the premier than a div1 promotion push

Doyle, Cresswell, Henderson and Bogdanovic - as well as Yeates and Collins - will all be here next season IMO. Who is going to buy them? Who is going to pay them what we are paying them? They are all contracted and they are all going to stay here unless they get same/better money OR a small drop in money from a Championship team. It won't happen and they will all be at SUFC next season. As you say, clutter in the dressing room and stopping the youth. Out of them all, I see a use for Henderson in that division, maybe Boggy with more confidence and possibly Yeates if he finds his knackers and stops shirking things.

Young and hungry players from League 1 and 2 is easier said than done. They've got to have a bit of quality for us to go and get them - these players cost money. We have none.

Disagree re: Simonsen. I'd let him go. He is preventing youth progression too. Wouldn't be dismayed to see him next season but I'd be looking at Long or a good keeper from elsewhere.

Maguire is a must in the side. Long, Kennedy, Whitehouse, Harriott, Ironside and Slew - maybe McFadzean - should all be given a role in the squad.

Yeates might have already left if you believe the rumours...

I'd keep Lowton, Quinn, Monty & Morgs from the current batch and if there was any way I could keep hold of Lowry and possibly Mattock then I would.

Fuck the rest off by any means possible.

I'd base a team on the following

GK: Long, Aksalu

Full backs: Lowton, Mattock, Taylor, Conneely

Centre Backs: Maguire, Morgan, Lowry, Kennedy, Collins :(

Wide men: McAllister, McFadzean, Chappell, (definitely an area we need to recruit)

Centre mid: Monty, Quinn, Whitehouse, Harriott, Tonne

Forwards: Slew, Ironside, Philliskirk

Then we have the dillemma of having to keep the likes of Cressy and Boggy etc. They may be useful to bring the youngsters along?

Forwards: Slew, Ironside, Philliskirk

With all due respect Wards, if that's our forward line next season we'll score even fewer goals than we have this year. I'd rather we kept Evans but finances may dictate otherwise.

Has Chedwyn disappeared because we're due to make a final payment or summat?

Can see him doing exactly that in replacing Derry at QPR next season

or more probably because we are terrified he'll get injured and won't be able to sell him to norwich?

good point.. hopefully he may take hendo with him:hello:

Absolutely, it's a base for next season. The squad obviously requires major recruitment but these are the players I'd prefer to base a squad on.

Wasn't a final payment due ten games ago.... then 7 games ago... then 3 games ago... and so on.

I agree in general with Presty and Wards, BUT, I do think that certain players who have been bobah this season, could do really well in League 1.

I'd love to keep Ched, but he'll be gone in the summer. No doubt in my mind. Same goes the Quinny and Monty. So be it, they've been great servants to the club, but we need to move on. Does that include Morgs? I hope not. He should be here for some time and move into a coaching capacity.

Collins and Doyle. Hmmmmmm. Here's the thing - they're AWFUL Championship players, but, and this makes me feel ill to type, they're good League 1 players. They were a big part of Leeds' success last season and more importantly, they know the league below. I'd be happy if they went, but wouldn't panic if they stayed.

We need two things for next season to even get near the playoffs:
1) Stability. No more reliance on fucking loans.
2) Pace pace pace. Out wide, at full back, up front. Please, if we can all see it, and if Nathan Bastard Blake can see it, then why can the management not?

Oh, and despite his evident rustiness, Hendo would rape League 1.

League One is not going to be as big a step down in quality as people think. It is a very tough division and will be tougher for a side like ours who represent a big club (everyone's cup final and all that). It is a very diverse league because there are a number of sides who like to get the ball down and pass (more than most championship sides) and there are other sides that like to hoof it constantly.

Players that are not quite good enough in our side now are not necessarily going to be any better at that level. I dont believe there is a huge difference between most of the Championship and the top of League One. Norwich, Leeds and Millwall have proved that to some extent this season. The main difference for me is in the quality of forwards, which will naturally improve as you move up the divisions. There are chances that a L1 forward might find difficult that a Championship striker would bury.

I am under no illusion that our current side would be strong at that level. You only have to look at our deficit of points and the way we play to see we aren't remotely good enough to play in the second tier, so how are we to expect we'll fly straight back up? Trust me, it needs a huge clearout or we will struggle again!
