Ticket Ballots for Home Games

Apologies if this has already cropped up on a Thread. I couldn't find it. United are beginning the prep for allocating tickets for games again. Of course, the Carrier Bag Firm only have a passing interest as we use our own Ticket Gangmaster system to sort ourselves for games. But others may like to know what's shaping up.

Despite all social distancing supposedly being removed come late June if everything on track, I've always been sceptical about crowds going back to normal from August.

Another parent at my son's football club works for the Pigs and she says they've been told only to expect to be allowed 2 or 3 thousand from the start of next season.

One of the things I give credit to Abdullah for is not jumping the gun on ST sales either last year or this. A lot of clubs did and have delayed in paying back fans. If McCabe were here I think we'd have done the same., particularly with the gravy train stopping next season. We've waited it out and I'm hoping only sell to fans what they can fulfil.

I would hope a refund is not the way (unless certain circumstances are met i.e. due to a death or moving location).

The club needs all the cash it can to rebuild so a discount should be the way. If any supporter would take a refund instead of a discount, then are they the people who probably bought into the Prem and aren't interested in the Championship. Keep money in the club, don't take it out.

That's not how many will be allowed. That's just how many will attend.

They shouldn't have a choice really. We have paid for 4 PL games and will be getting 4 Championship games as compensation

As far as I recall, we were given the choice of future discount against season tickets or club shop vouchers, that was many months ago.

So I don't think the option is on the table.

Presumably the ballot is being readied for the final game of the season, where a max of 10k or 25% capacity will be allowed? The wording has probably being made to sound open-ended in case things don't go to plan, from June, through to the new season starting.

Would a ballot really be required for that one game? The ballot only really made sense to make sure people got a fair chance at a home game when it was presumed there would be many games to share around.

The demand will be very small anyway. Just put them on sale as normal.

How would it be decided who can attend? We were getting 27/28k home fans last season. I don't think the demand will be at, or lower than 8k (25%). Despite how crap we have been, people haven't been able to go to a game for 13 months, so I can see more than a quarter of the regulars wanting to go.

I don't think it would be anywhere near a normal crowd when you factor in the amount of reasons that people wouldn't go. Yes, it would probably be over 10k, but that's no different to any game we've ever had where demand outstrips supply. So loyalty point brackets from last season, or just good old fashioned general sale would be fine.

The ballot had to be in place when we all thought that there would be some fans in the ground this season, because it wouldn't be fair to have the same people going to home games every week. That's not an issue now as there's only one game anyway.

There are many people who have had no support from the spinelees pairing of Johnson and Sunak during this past 12 months.

If you are one of those that have not suffered either in health or wealth during Covid well good luck to you.

Don't however think that those who need every penny are those that have just jumped on the Premier league bandwagon.

How's that any different to any game we've had in the last 15 years though? By that logic we'd have to have a ballot for every game.

How is that relevant to the way in which you distribute tickets? There's a 25% constraint either way. The ballot was only relevant to keep it fair and make sure everyone got the chance to go to a game when there were expected to be several.

There is only one game now, so whether you have a ballot, loyalty points, general sale or drop them out of a plane on to Devonshire Green there's still only 8,000 people getting one.

True. It's obviously best to stick with the method that has been used for 15 years and not introduce a pointless lottery.

I disagree with you. That's how things go sometimes. But. Following your logic of every penny needed. Surely that would mean reduced capacity, 8k or whatever, tickets going on auction sale to highest bidders. That's how you would maximise revenue isn't it?
