It seems a lot of people are using the no fans as an excuse for this absolutely shocking season,the Aston villa match is proof that having no fans isn't the reason we are so shit it felt like the old United were back as a team defending chucking themselves on the line and not shirking a challenge,even when down to 10 we stood as a team with no fans it's just another excuse to paper over the cracks of how shit we are.

I don’t think anyone would argue no fans is the sole reason for our predicament. Just that it’s hit us harder than most - if you went to places like Man City last season, you’ll know what I mean.

I’m sure it’s contributed, along with the loss of form of key players, and the loss of Henderson and JOC.

Supporters give the team/players a lift when behind them.
What any team lacks in skill and ability, can be made up somewhat with the extra effort brought on by encouragement from the crowd.
If that were not the case, you'd be able to argue that booing/swearing at/name calling causes no lack in performance.
The ironic cheering of George Long was despicable in my opinion, but did it's job in wrecking his confidence and seeing him hounded out.
If negative crowd interaction can affect players, then so can positive encouragement.

Having the fans roaring the team on gave them that extra half yard and that extra "bust a gut" commitment. This season we've been slow in thought and action and haven't been quite as "at it" and I think what it boils down to is a level playing field. When you have players desperate to prove themselves to the football world, their families, their club and the fans, they will go harder with 30,000 roaring them on, but sadly after last season they felt they'd arrived, and yet when there are no fans and it's about who are the better footballers, we are sadly lacking in quality and it's more easily exposed.

Having no fans hasn't helped, but it's not in the top few reasons why we're so poor this season

I personally blame Wilder, if he wasn't happy he should have gone instead of wandering about the place with a face like a bag of spanners for the last 12 months.

It's pretty obvious our team hasn't got the ability, but what it did have was a manager who'd die for his players and players who'd die for their manager.

It’s one factor in many , add in loss of form , injuries , poor recruitment , repetitive tactics to the pot and you can see why we are we are . Put simply the reason we are where we is because we haven’t been anywhere near good enough and look like going down with not even a whimper which is inexcusable in my eyes , for people to purely hide behind the no crowds in ground for our demise would be a piss poor excuse

You’ve nailed it. But worth noting that I’ve never met anyone who thinks we’re getting relegated simply because of no crowds. It’s a straw man.

It works both ways really. If fans were in the ground witnessing these lacklustre performances, the players would in no uncertain terms, be aware of our displeasure.

Our success last season was down to confidence, fan motivation, but only a very small part was due to players skills, it's no coincidence that we lost the last few games after spectators were banned
