Just watched both reactions and I agree our Captain wasn't very far from shedding tears.

Our squad this season must already have not been in a particularly great mental state (I know an understatement!) where I thought it wasn't possible to get worse, but it really has this weekend with CW leaving and then immediately on the receiving end of a 5-0.

Its that bad I'm not sure if its going to be possible for the group to pick themselves up for the remainder of the season unless PH and JT can turn into miracle workers.

Clearly, Wilder was sacked and I’d imagine many of the players feel responsible.

We don't know what happened with CW , but Billy's and Heckies reactions give a good impression of themselves.
Billy is knocked for 6 and also pissed off with the performance. He is a great captain and a good man to have in the dressing room. He pulled no punches.

It’s hard to tell whether he walked or was sacked. I get the impression he walked because he didn’t get his own way. I might be wrong because it’s hard to tell with the lack of clarity from the club over exactly what’s happened.

I think, in this scenario, the answer is the same and is just semantics...ie he walked because he wasn’t given the assurances he wanted to improve the club (in his opinion) and he was sacked because he wouldn’t accept the new changes/limitations imposed by the board.

You watch those comments, you hear other players talking, and posting online and you wonder whether the board are at risk of losing the dressing room.

I think the board have royally (pardon the pun) underestimated this one.

I think some of the games under Adkins were his lowest point.

Unfortunately, sporting performance is mental and physical. Our players have struggled this season. Now, they’ve lost their leader, friend and motivator. Id expect more of the same until the end of the season.

I'm not sure it's that they've lost a friend, I don't think Wilder was friends with the players at all. Maybe a couple, Bash, Billy, Didzy, Ramsdale, I know he wasn't best mates with them all for a fact, but the core of our team without exception have had the best time of their careers with Sheffield United and Sheffield United fans.

They fully appreciate that they've played a large part in getting Wilder sacked/ forcing things to get so bad HRH wants to bring in help, so they know what they're partially responsible for leaving the club without and that they're extremely unlikely to have the feelings they've experienced in the good times ever again.

Today proves to me a big summer of recruitment is needed. Bryan, Lundstrum, Moose, Burke could all leave tomorrow I wouldn't care.

Norwood, Baldock, Bash, Fleck, Stevens all massively out of form. Harsh on bash as he's just returned but he got done so easily constantly and offered nothing. He's not getting any younger either.

I'm struggling to digest this afternoon, feel like the clubs broken. Not sure how its repaired either. Feel like Wilders on a break but coming back soon

Why would you think this?

I thought from the Bettis interview (“it’s been a difficult decision to take”) that CW had been sacked? My understanding is that the announcement was delayed because they were sorting out the financials; you don’t get compensation if you resign. Have I missed something?

Just watched Billy Sharp’s post match reaction and I was struck at how much he was hurting. He looked genuinely upset, almost I thought on the verge of tears.

I also watched Paul Heckingbottom’s post match reaction and again he was hurting and upset, but I thought he came across really well.

This actually made me feel a bit better, especially Billy’s interview. To see him hurting like that and to know that other players will be hurting, that’s what I want to see. I want them to be hurting like we are and I think those two are and hopefully the rest will be.

I want Billy in the changing room and Paul Heckingbottom out there on the touch line now Chris has gone.

All they have left to play for is pride but judging by the reaction of Billy Sharp and Paul Heckingbottom they still have that pride and you can see in the interviews they’re devastated by Chris leaving and today’s performance.

The club has been left reeling after Chris’s departure and the players and management staff have been hit for six.

I don’t know what’s been going on behind the scenes but I feel let down by Chris walking now, he should have seen the season out. From the outside looking in it looks like he forced the issue.

I expected a heavy defeat today and we got it. The players must have been flat and I’m not surprised.

Next up is Chelsea in the quarter final, a break from the league and nothing to lose. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a reaction and much better performance next Sunday.

If I was a player I might also be thinking it’s time to move on too ! Worry is that is ends up being ones we want to keep

Reading between the lines, if Wilder had quit there would be no settlement. The money is to pay him off as he was sacked.

I guess there was a chance once he resigned he spent 2 days negotiating his leaving date?
