Just looking at next season and done some research into players/suqad and who will be around.

I believe we will be left with 16 senior players and 10 develpoment/academy players. Henderson still has another year.

Thankfully 10 of those senior players will be off the books at end of next season with only 6 remaining. Worryingly these are Collins, Doyle, Quinn, Montgomery, Cresswell and Morgan.

I would guess if/when we go down Morgan will stay as he has to recover from injury but unsure how we can keep likes of Montgomery, Quinn, Evans, Simonsen and Cresswell as they are the ones who are likely to be on biggest wages and many still have another few years as shown below.

Sadly we may be stuck with Collins and Doyle!!!

What are peoples opinions on next season and the players left/how we progress? Personally I wish we only had 3 or 4 carried over but sadly that is not the case.

My thoughts? The handing of long and lucrative contracts to Cress, Morgs, Monty and Quinn was madness, as it seemed to preclude us from buying younger, cheaper players with promise.

Unquestionably, I'd get rid of as many of these players as possible, even if it's a loss leader. We have to build for 2013/14 onwards, never mind next season.

No sentiment. No continuity with failures past. The mismanagement has to stop now.

great .. we have our worst players on contract.. evans will be gone anyway so don't worry about him

I've been waiting for someone to clarify all of this db so thanks. Evans, Henderson and Montgomery will almost certainly be sold as they have admirers and we have no way of affording their salaries in the third tier. With the kind of form the rest have shown I find it difficult to imagine how we could move anyone else on for a fee (if at all).

Personally, I would try to move on as many of the senior players as possible before the start of next season and replace them with younger players. The exceptions being Morgan, Lowton and Williamson. One other player I could add to that is Yeates who hasnt been at his best recently but would be a force in League One IMO. If Micky stays though, I could see Yeates leaving as well.....he doesnt seem to rate him much.

In an ideal world I would keep those, add one or two other experienced players to that (including a keeper) and the rest would be made up of younger players. I would imagine the likes of Conneely, McFadzean, Harriott, McAllister and Slew will all be getting a lot more first team experience next season and if they're willing to work hard at their game I welcome that.

The only players I think are good enough to mount a promotion challenge in League 1 are:

Contracted: Morgan, Montgomery, Quinn, Williamson, Evans, Henderson, Slew.

Loans: Lowry, Riise, Parrino.

Note: I've not included any of the Academy players other than Slew because I haven't seen them - but I'd hope we would hang on to the better ones.

Unfortunately we may well lose some of the players I've listed and be stuck with some of the others due to the contractual positions you outline.

Looking on the positive side, if all the loan and out of contract players leave, that's 14 players off the wage bill immediately.
Maybe that alone would be enough to reduce the wage bill to a manageable level for League One?
Of those that remain, we've got a solid core of experienced players who've performed well in the past and should easily be good enough at the lower level.
It's then imperative that the manager wheels and deals to inject more pace and skill into the team but my reckoning we may only need 4 new players.
The Academy/Development squad players need to be given regular action at Reserve level and hopefully some will start to come through.

My team:-
Simonsen
Lowton, Morgan, Pacy New CB, Pacy New LB
Pacy New RW, Montgomery, Williamson, Quinn
Bogdanovic, Pacy New CF

Squad:- New GF, Collins, Doyle, Creswell + Dev/Academy

Sell/Release:- Aksalu, Ertl, Taylor, Ward, Yeates, Henderson

Although I would love to see the young lads through and become 75% of the team, the 6-1 dicking they received off Barnsley last week (Carroll S/O apart) shows they are not ready yet.

Thus making any of there contracts pointless.

Next Seasons Team:

Simonsen
Lowton
Collins
Morgan
Nosworthy
Yeates
Doyle
Williamson
Quinn
Cresswell
Bogdanovic

We wont be able to shift any of the squad apart from Montgomery and from what I've read on twitter!? SUFC have put an offer on Nosworthy's Agent's desk.

I've already got my starting XI in mind for next season:-

New GK
Lowton, Morgan, New CB, McFadzean
Yeates, Williamson, Harriott, New LM
New CF, Slew

Possible candidates for the above vacancies:-
GK - Tommy Lee, Stuart Tomlinson
CB - Marcel Seip, Gareth McAuley
LM - Michael McIndoe, Andros Townsend (Loan)
CF - Craig Davies, Glen Murray

from what I've read on twitter!? SUFC have put an offer on Nosworthy's Agent's desk.

League 1 is probably about his level. Thankfully though he'll probably want more than we can offer.

If we are offering new contracts out to people more than 5k a week, that would be madness for a league 1 team.

I give you James Beattie £35,000 basic in the Coca Cola Championship

If that's the team for next season, League 2 here we come with a worse record than Derby had in the Premiership!

But do we honestly think NOBODY would be interested in taking Lowton, Morgan or Williamson of our hands at a discount price? Probably get a 3 for 2 offer.

A youngster that's never set the world alight.

A rough arse centre half with dodgy knee and an age on the wrong side of 30

Annnnd

A midfielder with an injury record akin to Darren Anderton over the last two years?

Oh yeah I can see someone snapping them right up.

With all the doom and gloom surrounding our prospects of bouncing straight back up. I think it's worth resurrecting this thread.
Look at the original post by Deadbat and you can see that the club can offload the wages of 14 players immediately.
What we're left with is a decent spine of players who should be more than good enough at Division 3 level and maybe just as importantly who do care passionately for the club (Lowton, Morgan, Quinn, Montgomery).
If the club can attract offers for and raise funds from some of the other high earners (Ward, Evans, Henderson), there need be no reason why we can't balance the books and still mount a very strong promotion challenge next season.
It's essential that we add more pace and skill to the undoubted resilience and battling qualities of those we'll be left with but it's not as impossible a task as some are making out.

I'd be asking Quinn, Henderson and Morgan to all take pay cuts if they are going to stay. If not, then they can go too. Hendo has said he owes the club and I think Morgs and Quinn genuinly love the club and hence we may keep them.

Monty, Williamson, Evans, Simmonsen and Yeates should be sold and will probably attract bidders. We may have more of a problem shifting Cresswell, Doyle and Collins (and Micky might want to keep his signings).

I'd keep Lowton, Taylor, Ertl and Bogdanovic on their existing contracts. I'd also like Morgs and Quinn to stick around (though they'd have to be earning less). Then the team should be made up of youngsters and players from the lower leagues.

If I was Adams then I would be saying to Pembo, who are your best 5 or 6 youngsters and can you get them ready for next year? I would also be sending the scouts out (Malcky Mackay style - see my can we learn from Watford thread) to the lower leagues and Scotland looking for young, hungry, talented players that will be able to cut it in League One.

As Olle says, I think its about investigating all sources now to build a squad for next year. If I was to guess the players that will still be here (and playing first team football) next season I would suggest:-

Simonsen, Long, Morgan, Collins, Maguire, Lowton, Ertl, Doyle, Williamson, Harriott, Quinn, Slew, Bogdanovic, Cresswell

For various reasons I dont see any of these leaving. This is what I expect we will be left with come pre-season. It will then be a case of supplementing that with a couple more youngsters and signing some proven players at League One level. They'll need to bring a fair few in because the group above wouldn't be good enough to mount a serious challenge IMO.

I would be looking to the U18's team to bring a couple of them in and mix them with a couple of more
expierenced players to get the balance right.

next season should be a fresh start for the club and i think if Adams isn't there as when he came in he did say he may go if we went down i would imagine Pemberton could be incharge to bring the youngsters in through and continue the positive feeling they have built up this year with the cup run.

one way ticket, north hopefully

It's laughable to read about all these players we have who will be 'more than good enough' for League One and similar wild-eyed assessments.

They are not. The top teams in that league will outplay our plodders with ease.

Anyone for football?

No, I thought not.

We  Hoofing.

Would like to see Risse stay but Nyron i am glad to see the back of.
Don't know why we have offered Collins a 2 year contract when he is poor.

They were good enough to hold their own in The Premiership 4 years ago and none of them have ever played lower than The Championship.
Of course they'll be good enough for League One. What has that got to do with the style of play?
P.S. Thought you were going to the Youth Cup match, you got back quick!

After tonights performance we should have long in the net, he dominates and controls his defence well and he can actually catch the ball unlike flappy currently in the net!

We need to be careful so we don't miss the chance of a fresh new start. True, many of the current players will be ok in League One, but I think it's wrong to say they'll make up a team that's strong enough to bounce straight back, let alone form the basis of a team that we hope eventually are heading for the Premiership. For too long we've gone for the short term solutions, and we can't afford to postpone the gradual, patient building of a strong team and squad - it MUST start this summer.

Let's also not forget the development squad, although I think Adams has pretty much ruled them out for this season, prefering experience. For example, I'd like to see Erik Tønne given a chance at left back or left midfield from the start of next season. He's tall, athletic, quick and skilful, and needs to be given a chance. He's been playing mainly up front for the reserves, but that's because they've been short of forwards. David McAllister is also one who could do well for us.

It's got everything to do with the ability to play football properly as opposed to our outdated, discredited hoofing. Look no further than the present top six for confirmation.

Well spotted on the cup-tie. I was golfing and the round took an inordinately long time owing to four novices (not a problem) not knowing the etiquette of playing through (which is).

I certainly regret missing it. I shall, Pele willing, be at the final.

There will be a good handful of players that are, as I type, on with their agents with words to the effect of " I ain't doing division 3, get me a club"

The players in question are likely to include "-

Quinn - I am a tad suspicious of his recent improved form. Shop windowing ???
Monty - Truth is Monty will have a number of suitors.
Evans - First £750k+ offer and hes out the door and, like Monty, will have a choice of suitors.
Hendo - Unplayable - will be queing round Cherry Street for his signature !
Cress - Will be allowed a free to get off wageroll. Legs gone. Even Stevie Wonder sees it !

All above will be amongst higher earners and will be top of list for the chop in any event.

Is this the top 6 including QPR, with the arch-hoofer-in-chief Warnock at the helm? Maybe leopards change their spots?

In's and Out's

I agree. I think those above will all be gone by the start of next season except maybe Cresswell who noone will want I am afraid.

Quinny, Monty, Henderson and Evans are all average-above average Champ players and we will probably offer them to whoever wants to take on their contract. Cant see us getting more than a nominal fee I am afraid in todays market.

At most one (Quinn or Monty) may return but the rest certainly Henderson and evans (with only a year left on their contract) will be gone.

Unfortunately the ones contracted we will be stuck with are Simonsen, Collins, Doyle, Taylor, Yeates, Cresswell. If we could get shut of these 6; keep maybe Monty/Quinn and one of Henderson/Evans, bring Morgan back and bring in a few of the Academy along with a few lower division players who have pace and are hungry we may be able to be around the middle of League One next year.

If we do lose the ones mentioned then people better buckle up for the ride as we will be lower than Wednesday next year (their squad in League One is far stronger - alright a lot of has beens and never beens but still should be around top 6) than ours will be I am afraid to say. Using them as a yardstick next year could be very tough.
