See, I think so many of his issues are to do with him not having the time to think. He only has one primary mode - receive ball, head down, aim for the big white rectangle. If he could find a way to give himself a moment of clarity when in decisive moments, he could become an assist king. Thats where he needs to change. He needs to stop only seeing his roll as a goal scorer and realise one of, if not the greatest asset is letting other people score with the space and situations he creates.
I agree. But after a lifetime of not playing / thinking that way, how do we know he’s even got the ability to get much better at it?

He doesn’t seem to have the basics, unfortunately.

Which is why I said, originally, the club need to get him in with a Sports Psychologist. He has the physicality is spades, just needs to learn to keep his cool, when it matters.

Thought he was really poor and also work rate tonight too. Could have put a lot more effort in as only on for 30 minutes.
I am a big fan of what burke can bring but there was one time he lost the ball and just jogged slowly after the villa player running away with the ball. It was the one time I swore watching the game last night when considering everything that's an achievement!!

The weird thing is his pace and power is so good it negates him being useless with the ball! He forces sides back.
Absolutely, I just wish that once he's pushed a side back and danced around a defender on the byline (done the hard bit!) he'd pick the right pass instead of trying to smash the ball into next week.

I will say this, getting game time in the Championship will be huge for him and us. He'll have more time to think and his athleticism will be FAR too much for all but the best in that league.

Hi, Stegosaurus here

Burke reminds me of when the special kid at school did PE and just ran around at full speed getting in everybody's way.

And I'll jump in before anyone comments. No, I wasn't the special kid.

Im guessing you were the kid who wore a swimsuit in the showers?

Don’t know if it has been posted before but on his wikipedia page

‘Despite this early impact, Burke was regularly used as a substitute by Leipzig.[33] Their coaching staff praised his physical attributes, but questioned his tactical awareness.[34]

Not much changed then.

Strangely, I have this feeling that he will come good in the Championship.

Burke is an odd player. His build suggests he should be slow when in actual fact he's one of the fastest players I've seen. His size says he should be decent in the air but he jumps so early, and has often risen and landed before the ball gets to him!

Alternative positions:

Linesman.
Fetching the ball when it gets booted out of the ground.
Bloke that gets the backie butties in when the van arrives.
Checkout worker in Lidl.

He's possibly the worst footballer I've seen at the Lane in terms of ability and decision making, yet I'm still happy when he comes on. My brain doesn't know what to think because I've never had to watch anyone anything like him.

From the limited stuff I saw of Traore at Middlesbrough and his early days at wolves though, it is possible to make a player out of someone with his attributes/lack of attributes.

Burke lacks a football brain, he doesn't have the intelligence and that's something you can't really coach. His shooting technique isn't the best either. If the lad had Didzy's brain and Brewster's shooting ability then he'd be in a top four team easily.

I agree with Wilder's comments, doesn't mean that he should say it.

Burke was very good against Manchester United and has shown promise in other matches, needs a lot of coaching but there is a player there. Certainly more effective than Robinson.
I had an argument with my son about Burke last night. To me, I agree, he needs coaching, there's something there. My son pointed out that WBA, Leipzig and Celtic all tried and failed, why will we be different?

He's probably worth a crack in the championship but he needs to engage his brain, too much Duracell bunny, not enough thinking in his play.

For me, the reason I liked Wilder's comments, was that for the first time in months, he reminded me of the old Wilder from last season, who would call issues out and be straight talking not Mr Cliche. On reflection, perhaps he should have been more diplomatic but just good to hear him talk like he used to.

His physical attributes are world cup level but his footballing ability is not even conference north level

He does, I feel like asking him if he will come and service my boiler.................
And I refer my learned friend to this:
