I was thinking similar. The only time Town is any good is when they have the Continental Food Festivals on, or the Snooker. They could surely have modelled something on that?

Not really, too much of a tunnel and too many shops. The fan zones have to be quite big as they’re really popular. Which is why some cities had more than one. And which is exactly what Sheffield could have done.

You don’t have to only have one and it doesn’t need to be next to the ground.

Wouldn't it be a good idea to have a fan zone and big screen in the stadium that isn't holding the game? Plus a fan zone in a major park. Plus special facilities in the town centre. The short sightedness of Sheffield council knows no bounds.

Trust me, if Sheffield absolutely had to host a WC match, and for some reason Hillsborough got blown up, they would rebuild the DVS before allowing a match to be played at BDTBL.

Walk to: Railway Station, Bus Station, Tram Stops, City Centre amenities, Hotels, Norfolk Park

Also 2 minutes from the Parkway with direct dual carriageway access to the country's main arterial Motorway.

It is, in many way, the perfect location to host a major International footballing occasion.

Case for Hillsborough: Pigs on the Council.

Result, no contest, Hillsborough it is.

Been told before that weve know chance purely because of Hillsborough park , now it houses tramlines too and has proved it can ferry thousands in and out weve nowt to come
 
That's the point though, you don't need to ferry people into S2 because everything is already there

Tramlines is largely local. Imagine Peruvians and Zambians having to battle their way back into town to their hotels or digs, waiting in massive lines for trams. Pointless. Game finishes at BDTBL and yes lads your hotel's over there look! have a beer on the way! If you're camping, Norfolk Park is to the right. If you need a train, straight ahead, a bus too. Fancy a pint? Just start walking. Restaurants? Loads of 'em mate. Need to get on the M1 to brum for tomorrow's fixture between Benin and South Korea? No problem, turn right after the station and follow it from there. You lot live at Gleadless? no problem, tram stop's over there.

They will never agree I know, but S1/S2 has it all, but S6 is somewhere you have to work to get to, and then work to get your desperate arse back out of.
 
Would think 40,000 capacity would be the minimum again. Problem with that is if we expanded it may be a little too big for us, 37,000 would be about right at the moment.

If we did decide to expand I can see the Kop being done at a price we could realistically afford. Just a cheap bolt on similar to what’s in the published plans.

Cant really see the South being done. It would cost many millions more and unless the Prince takes on additional outside investment as in a partnership, can‘t see that happening.

Think Sheffield should be considered though. Hillsborough would be a complete non starter due to the state of disrepair it‘s in and the many millions needed to get it to Premier League standards, never mind World Cup.

So it would be down to Bramall Lane to represent Sheffield, or between us and Leeds if it came to a Yorkshire representative.

Hate to say it but Leeds would win that battle, the city is miles ahead of Sheffield.

Uefa won't consider Any stadium with House's 2 or 3 streets around it

They demand total access of the adjacent area ,this rules out the lane and Hillsborough and most English stadiums with the exception of a select few

To any normal person bramall lane would be great, city centre location ect but like I say we wont get it because the shit hole has Hillsborough park for a big fan zone and it's only a short tram ride away ,this is the reason they got it over us last time in the 2018 bid land it will be the same again
 
Newcastle, Leeds, Man Utd, Man City, Villa, Leicester, Arsenal, Spurs, Wembley, Cardiff, Celtic, Rangers and Dublin. Will probably be used, no chance of them using Bramall Lane. Not big enough.
 
We could get some games at the Euro this summer though?
 
Neither Sheffield team will get a look in,, the fact that it is UK and Republic of Ireland submitting a possible bid means that each country will have to have at least 1 stadium where matches will be played. The number of teams competing will be up to 48 by then I think, more stadiums will be needed so I expect that if there is a rule where no one city can house 2 stadiums will be changed to accommodate so many teams. Manchester and Liverpool will have high capacity, top class grounds by then, there are at least 4 in London, Newcastle and Sunderland and Leeds in the North East and Yorkshire. Where England falls down is the Midlands, only Leicester has anything resembling a premier league ground. Birmingham to say it is the second city has nothing.
When it comes to Sheffield, no government or football authority will allow any money to be granted to Sheffield Wednesday following the Hillsborough disaster, it would be political suicide to do so.
So if there are any readers who frequent the Stadia de Scratchings in S6, you have not got a hope in hell of any money coming your way.
As far as we are concerned, we are not in a good location and in todays market, not big enough, even if we were able to expand to 40k, the area around us will not be able to cope.
I don't think this is a realistic attempt by the government anyway, they won't be able to bring 5 countries together to agree on something like this and I don't believe the football world would ever go for it in this format
 
No chance for Sheffield.

Spurs, West Ham, maybe Arsenal, Leeds, Villa, Newcastle, Wembley, Man City, Man U, Liverpool, Dublin, Cardiff, Celtic or Rangers, they'll build one in Belfast
 
I think security would be a nightmare for both the Lane and Swill, not enough room around either to make a "safe zone", add in others factors and it's a non-starter. If Yorkshire had a stadium it would be Elland Road, without a doubt.
 
World Cup Stipulates 12 Stadiums with ONLY 1 city able to have 2 stadiums (you'd guess London).

Will we look to use just the biggest stadiums? Twickenham and Murrayfield are 82K & 67K but only used for Rugby. If we want Association Football Grounds only and used the top 12 in size, we would end up like this (stadiums in red would be next in line, but excluded due to city already in use.)

That's based just on size. But if they were wanting more of a spread geographically, you'd think Sunderland OR Newcastle and Leeds OR Pigs. There's no club south of London in that list, none in Northern Ireland.

I guess Sunderland and Pigs would be dropped and a new stadium built in Belfast + a south coast club (Brighton or Southampton). Probably Southampton due to the port.

That would then look like this:
London x 2 (Wembley + West Ham or Tottenham)
Manchester (Old Trafford)
Cardiff (National Stadium)
Glasgow (Celtic)
Liverpool FC
Newcastle
Dublin (National Stadium)

Yes, I think Southampton would be a venue, well positioned and plenty of space surrounding the stadium.
 
Given it's a joint bid with Ireland, I can't see Sheffield being chosen at all, sadly. I can see them picking 2/3 grounds in London (including Wembley).
 
Why has it been made jointly with the Republic of Ireland? In footballing terms, it could've just been England anyway and combining into the UK or GB to make a bid only reinforces the calls that are made every now and again for England, Scotland and Wales to combine into a GB team. Or does including the Republic defuse that and make it look like a 5 country bid?

Be nice to have Sheffield included for the sentimental side of things. Birthplace of football and all that.

If it was purely an English bid then there’d be a chance, but with Scotland, Wales and Ireland in the mix I’d say it’s unlikely.
