The manager after Wilder’s successor

I love this, and in many ways this is how it often pans out. My mate Clarkey met and married a former Miss Peru, had 2 kids with her, and was with her for a good number of years. She was stunning, a real head turner and terrific company. Anyway, they split up 2 years ago, and since then he's been with some real rough birds.

Why do mistakes made in the past have to mean they will continue into the future? Terry Robinson won't have any say in future selection so that's got to be a positive.
That is very logical, but stats wise SUFC are arguably the worse club in the country they are the only ones who never win anything other than the odd league title. For its size the club is by far the worst in the whole league set up and over the past 55 years have wondered why this is the case.

I have therefore come to the conclusion that we must for some inexplicable reason be institutionally crap.

After a successful manager we usually have a few false start managers before we get another good one.

Porterfield, fail, fail, fail
Bassett, fail, fail, fail
Warnock, fail, fail,fail
Wilder,
Can anyone who wants Wilder out offer any suggestions for the next two or three false start managers and then place the cherry on top of the cake with manager who next succeeds please?
Er...there was only one manager between Porterfield and Bassett.

Howe, Lampard, Bruce...........Billy

Harsh on Clough- saved us from relegation, 2 cup semi finals and a playoff semi final
Blackwell played shit football but saved us from relegation and got us to the playoff final
Spackman- played great football. And had us in the play off position

Some people have short, or probably more to the point, selective memories

Sorry mate but Spackman was an unqualified success we were going places under him, trouble is he was backed by a board with zero ambition. He then had to suffer the indignity of having Deane & Fjortoft sold from under his nose by this set of under ambitious twats on same fucking day; sorry you are 100% wrong to put Spakkers in there.

Fucking history.
No one ever learns!

The day Pink Floyd's "Another Brick In The Wall" came out I bought it from a record shop in South Shields. I walked past a new branch of Burton's opening on the High Street and joined a queue to meet the newly crowned Miss World. She was Miss Bermuda, Gina Swainson. She gave me a kiss and signed my record sleeve, the most bizarrely autographed item I ever owned. I put it in NME and some balloon gave me 10 times what I'd paid.

That's all, just the mention of a former Miss World brought the memory back. Sorry, off on a private tangent there for a moment (no pommpey it's not a type of bike)

You miss the point. It did and can get worse, much worse. A breif overview of worse below....

Adkins
Clough
Robson
Blackwell
Weir
McEwan
Heath
Spackman
Just a few examples, Robson and Kidd should have done so much better especially with the squad we had then. Blackwell always had a relegation curse even when he took dirty Leeds down. Too much hype with Adkins and under Clough he did everything apart from get promoted. Personally I would keep and break the mould of getting rid at the first opportunity

I think Clough did a decent job, Spackman was excellent and was destroyed by the muppets trying to rape the crap out of the club.

No mention of Danny Wilson. Thought he was royally shat on by McCabe.
I forgot about about Wilson. Yeah agreed there

We've not had many managers to get the pulse racing but in my time my best are, in no particular order.

John Harris (Sir John)
Dave Bassett
Nigel Spackman
Neil Warnock (don't like him but won't deny him)
Howard Kendall
Chris Wilder

I often wonder what would have happened under Ken Furphy he took us to 6th on shoestring, then it went tits up just imagine had we had money who knows. I could have compiled a list of crap managers but not enough memory in my laptop, boy we've had some bad uns.

Just quoting from a book printed 10yrs ago -
"Sheffield United have employed more manages than any other Football league club since 1945"
anyone know if this record still stands ,,,,,,,?

Interesting that Spackman did a great job, and yet didn't go on to have the stellar management career most Blades would have anticipated.

Yor talking bollocks were spackman is concerned, you are obviously too young to remember Sunderland at home one sunny August Saturday afternoon ...

You’re right I am talking bollocks re Spackman. I can’t blame it on youth though. I’m 47 but am prone to talking bollocks on occasion

Jesus, some of the names mentioned as alternatives to Wilder by the know-it-alls on here are utterly depressing.

Wilder's a gem, despite this season, which has had a lot of mitigating factors.

If Wilder left, he'd only pitch up at another Championship club, do amazing there and take them up and we'd all be gutted.
