It's all about Money but not just one lump sum spread over a couple of season, it needs to be over a lot of season, it's got to be long term and probably increasing all the time.
Hull are a prime example, big club from nothing and then gone just as quick, Leeds, top table then slowly slipped out of contention, yes there back now but lets just wait and see how long for.
It's not just a matter of getting there, it's also a matter of having enough cash to keep on improving all the time and a lot of luck,

You have suggested it as a reason that Wilder could be sacked and have posted on this forum about it enough times. With regards to Adkins Southamptons owners obviously knew he had reached the end of the road with them probably when he started mentioning geese and wanting to sign Dean Hammond. Southampton did stick with Hassenhutl after his bad period with them and losing 9-0 to Leicester it would have been very easy for them to sack him. Can you imagine the fallout on here if we got tonked 9-0 at home the anti Wilder lot would be wanting Wilders head on a stake

Leicester have signed duds as well,just that they can afford more leeway being more established & basically richer.

You can't just pick and choice the good ones. Yes, they've made some great signings but had a lot to spend comparatively, when as I said there was no competition but could throw big money at the time, at unproven talent.
But for balance just in the last few seasons they've had a few over £20M misses.

• Islam Slimani, £28 Million. 36 league appearances 8 goals over his 5 year deal.
• Ahmed Musa £20 Million. Now playing in the Saudi league aged 28.
• Adrien Silva £22.5 Million 14 league appearances, had his contract cancelled at the start of this year.

Try and buy ‘the next Jamie Vardy, Kasper Schmeichel, Kante or Mahrez’ today and see how much it costs.

Once one team has bought this type of player it inflates the values of players for the next team to try.

A reserve keeper from Man City would be £10m+. A battling midfielder like Kante or a winger like Mahrez from overseas probably £20m+, on the off chance that they turn out to be good.

A striker with the lower league goal record of Vardy now would be £10m+. If they had a season in the Championship and score a lot of goals £20m+.

I’d love us to find a PL 20 goals a season striker fresh from non-league for £20k but it’s not going to happen.

Completely agree with the OP. We as a fan base do seem content with mediocrity, and that does seem to reflect the cities view on redevelopment. It’s been the same for years really. Good point I have a good friend from Bolton and have been there many times for a drink and it's the same as anywhere good places bad places what I would say there is some very good real ale pubs there with friendly locals
