Sounds a daft question, and i think it potentially could be disastrous financially if we can't get rid of the deadwood, but who realistically thinks we'll be in anything other than another relegation battle next year if we stay up?

I'm no longer fearful of relegation, as i simply cannot see Adams turning this round. Provided we get rid of the shite (which is a big if) then there's nothing better for lifting the morale of a squad than winning games, regardless of what division those games are in.

absolutely not.. we've all speculated 'it might be a good thing' but all we are doing is trying to put a good light on what could be a disaster

this shud be on the deluded piggy forum............. Do you want us to go down ? ..... no I want us to go up ! :D

There's very few clubs who drop down and storm it straight back up, look across the city for a perfect example, or when we dropped down from the Premiership, Leeds etc etc

Worse possible situation and would knock us back even more years than we currently are behind.

We're on a run of 2 unbeaten now, keep the faith!!!

Why not go the whole hog and ask if we can skip Leagues 1 and 2 and go straight to the Conference if all it's about is making the poor little lambs feel good about themselves?? If we're admitting that as a club this size we are unable to compete for the right to be in the top 41 clubs in the country bring on the merger. For all the talk of SCF's WINB's etc, just shy of 20000 people turned out on a filthy night in February to watch the lowest scorers in the Division and who have sent their fans home happy just 4 times.

Now, go out, beat Palace, beat Scunny and be the players that saves the club from ignominy.

No.

Relegation is never, ever a good thing.

So which pilchard voted yes???

Do I think we'll stay up, thats a different matter. If we are going to go down I would rather we were dead and buried by the start of April. That way we can at least give the youngsters a chance to get some experience.

But we won`t do that. Tis the blades way to get relegated on the last day, as has been and always will be...

I don't "want" us to go down, but I don't think it would be the worst thing in the world.

Likely to be a financial disaster, and we don't have good enough players or management to ensure a swift return. So no, I don't want us to go down.

I voted yes. I'm using reverse psychology on the footballing gods.

The fact that this question is being asked and that we've all discussed it numerous times recently just shows that the support have given up on any hope of a bright future. This has been one of the worst seasons I can remember and I've been going darn't lane for over 20 years.

Do I want us to go down? Of course I dont, I'm a Blade and I love the club. I want them to be as high up the divisions as possible but if (as raul mentions) we can't even compete in the second tier anymore, we may as well just pack up now. A club our size should have never been reduced to what we are now.....on our arse and scraping around for loans so that we can stay above the likes of Scunthorpe and Preston. Its a fucking shambles.

If the players have anything about them they will get us out of this mess. If we go down then its because we weren't good enough to be in this division.....simple as. All I can do is cross my fingers and hope. I have no sympathy for players, managers or directors who are all paid obscene wages for failing. Its the supporters that turn up week on week that I feel for because when the shit hits the fan they're the ones to suffer. Those who got us to where we are will eventually move on.

As our lass said to me the other day - "I think its appauling that they have gone that long without a win when they get paid what they do, I dont get a tenth of what a lot of them do and I would be sacked if I performed that badly in my job." - its criminal when you think about it like that.

I dont want us to go down but It is looking more and more likely.

We are crap at making swift returns and we could easily be in League 1 for 13 years.

I don't want us to go down, but amidst the doom and gloom of this season, I can see a silver lining.

We might win some games. The "fans" who are only prepared to support the club if we're looking anywhere near the Premiership will disappear, hopefully providing a better atmosphere for those who are left. Us young 'uns will get some new grounds in. The expectations of many will be brought right back down to earth with a bump.

Seems the question was probably a bit too stark. Perhaps do you think 'Relegation would be beneficial in the long run' might have been a better question.

The one and only benefit I could see if we went down is that we might be able to have a clear out. Some players on good contracts we would be stuck with but most we could probably offload.....wont get much for them though.

Hear Hear - top post!

I wonder if Jamie Ward reads or posts on here

Definately a no from me, having endured 6 relegations during my time watching the Blades and each one equally painful, i pray for no more, but fear my prayers may go unheard.

Yes we lost 5,000 ST holders last year let's hope we can lose at least another 5,000 this year.

Be a brilliant atmosphere with 10,000 diehards in the ground (cos let's face no 'real' Blades have walked away from the club recentlly) and there'll be no booing just blind support, though it would be better if we could get down to the absolute mega diehards and get gates down to 2,000. Maybe doubling ST prices would really sort out the loyal fans from hangers on?

I've watched us for nearly 40 years. If you think it's just fair weather fans walking away then you are very sadly mistaken. And if you think our expectations are too high then I just don't know where to start. Wer're hardly spoilt glory hunting fans after one year in about 18 in the Prem, most if us have always had low expectations and always expect failure usually dramatic falure - that's not what it's about.

Belive me I have seen the Lane with less than 10,000 in many times and it aint that great. The novelty soon wears off.

Having said that I agree that the away games will be far better supported than this season and like many Blades my age some of the best memories are Fourth Division days.

But this time round I just can't see us bouncing back from the lower leagues so well.

We need another 14 players or so signing in the summer to make a go of it in League One. We just can't keep rebuilding every couple of months and we don't have the cash or the drive and ambition at the top of the club anymore.

Neyw. Surely no fooker wants us to go down. I certainly don't. It would be upsetting, humliating and could lead to us being up shit creek financially.

From a purely selfish point of view going down would work quite well for me. Living in London I'd get loads of days out across the South. With Swindon, Yeovil, Plymouth, Bretford, Exeter, Leyton Orient and MK Dons all on the fixture list then there are a few away games I could get to. That's not to mention if Bristol R and Dagenham stay up and Southampton, Charlton and Brighton don't go up.

Going down might help to shift the dedwood we have (Monty, Cressy, France, Kozluk etc) but surely we could do that if we stayed up? The flip side is that we go down and we are still paying good wages to crap players. Another possible benefit is that we might win more games, but this ios not guaranteed. Also IF Adams is the right man for the job, then why can't we win more games than we lose in the Championship next season?

I would much sooner Adams have the chance to build a side in the Champiosnhip, rather than in League One.

Unbelievable. It will be great beating the like of Leyton Orient at home in front of 12,000, won't it? Beats playing the likes of Man Utd in front of 30,000 glory hunters. Yeah, right. As for expectations, a club of our size should be Premiership / top half of Championship as we've been for the majority of our existence. It's not the expectations of the fans that need to be lowered, it's the expectations of those running the club that need to be raised.

Quite incredibly misguided stuff.

Don't know why anyone in their right mind would want us to go down. I guess some people will take a crumb of pleasure by the fact that it will be a pretty damning verdict on McCabe's tenure (especially the post relegation/Tevez case version of McCabe).

>and there'll be no booing just blind support
the clappers will have finally taken over the asylum.. i thought we were doomed but now the maestro is out i'm a lot more optimistic now

I think we're one of only 19 clubs who haven't been in the bottom 2 divisions since the start of the 90s. For a club with limited achievements in recent times, at least that is a small something to be proud of. I'd like to keep that record going and I'm not hugely keen on the idea of losing £3m or so in turnover when we're already struggling to make ends meet.

For those reasons, it's a no from me.

Ipswich, Newcastle, Blackburn. West Ham, Portsmouth (?)

WBA were in 3rd tier in early 90s.

As a 27 year old who has never seen us play in the third tier, I hope I never see us play in the third tier. Also, as someone who enjoys going to away matches, I would not like to add Yeovil, Exeter, Dagenham, Carlisle etc to my list. I would much rather face them in the cup as a Championship/Premiership club.

As Thatcher once said: "No, no, no."
