We were nailed on to be the worst premier league team ever not 5-6 weeks ago by many in the media. How quickly things can change in football. I'm not suggesting we're going to stay up but it is relief not to have the Derby cloud hanging over us.

You could say the reverse happened and we had a bit of luck that went our way, ironically against Newcastle.

They had a man sent off and handball penalty given thanks to VAR, and the ball nearly bobbled in at the last minute after Ramsdale was caught off his line.

That was the relative springboard so to speak which Derby did not have.

Or if any of our narrow loses had just been draws instead then we would be in much healthier position.

It's not positive or negative just factual that our win against Newcastle was fortuitous. Fraser stupidly got himself sent off and Fernandez gave away a penalty, which the referee did not initially spot. Then a defensive lapse at the end almost resulted in us conceding a goal but did not.

When Derby played Newcastle in the same point of the season they conceded a 90th minute equalizer and collapsed from there. We fortunately did not, and have not and remain fighting.

Then we would have been in Fulham's position. The only draws that I really think we were good value for that we lost were against Leeds and Villa where both their goalkeepers put in performances of a lifetime. West Brom and Burnley we were architects of our own downfall and luck played no part.

Draw Leicester, Leeds and Villa. Should have really beaten Fulham and West Brom first time around.

So that 9 points better off than where we are now.

Could say that about some that have gone against us , Egan’s sending off a Villa for one and a different result there
 
It's not even a rub of the green. The law of averages say that we should really have about 9 more points this season - just like we probably got about 9 more points than the law of averages suggests at the same point of last season. Anyway, with these 9 ish points we would be in our realistic position of one of the bottom 6 teams in the league but with a realistic chance of staying up.

As it is, we have very little chance. However, I'm with Lloyd from Dumb and Dumber when he asked Mary what the chances are of him and her ending up together ...................................... Yeeeeeeeees! You are saying there's a chance! 💪💪💪💪💪💪

I've mentioned Leeds and Villa. Leicester fair point, I was fuming that Egan did not rugby tackle Vardy to get us a draw:

Fulham we were lucky to draw as Mitrovich stupidly handballed it to get us a point. West Brom we conceded a shocker of a goal then missed our chances, no bad luck there we were architects of our own downfall.

If we look at luck then yes we could have been 4/5 points better off, still in the relegation zone. If we were even more unlucky we could be on 7/8 (drawing to Newcastle and losing to Fulham)

We dominated Fulham in the first half though, we should have been out of sight by half time.

The Burnley game summed it up for me this season. Lots of passes and possession but they never looked worried and were happy for us to have the ball as they defended deeply and never believed that we could break them down. If we had played up until now we still would not have done.

Spot on I've said before possession means nothing, it's what you do with the ball.

Most people in football accept that the Derby team were a lot worse than us.

Our season has largely gone the way it’s gone due to (lack of) skill and application and a bit of both in the games that we won. Luck hasn’t really come into it.

I don’t think it’s tippy tappy, it’s lack of confidence or ability to do it in one pass. We often take 3 passes to move a ball to a place where it could go in 1 pass.

Newcastle and Fulham penalties would never have been given without VAR, the Luiz one wasn't a clear sending imo.. The Egan sending off was given by the ref not VAR

That Derby team on paper doesn't look as bad as many people always suggest it was.

Plenty of top flight experience.

Obviously a bad mix and questionable attitudes.

That would be my way of looking at it
Although second half v Fulham they could / should have beaten us

No offence mate but Derby were wank that season , players before season started saying they weren’t good enough , upheaval all over club , 32 games without a win , Robbie savage Club were bunched from the off
