Have both Sheffield clubs been relegated in the same season before?

As per the title, does Anyone know? I’ve had a quick scan through a few stat sites and I’m 90% sure it’s never happened. Anyone care to prove me wrong? Or for that matter does anyone care at all !

I don't think it will happen this season either as I think the pigs will escape. In fact my biggest fear, after moving so far ahead of them in the last couple of years, is for them to better us next season. Sincerely hope not but I've been a Blade too long.

yes this came up personally few months ago when you couldve got 5/2 on it.

but its never happened in history of both Sheffield clubs that theyve been relegated in the same season. i believe it has happened 3 times that Sheffield clubs have been relegated in successive seasons

I think the closest it ever came to happening was in the 1975-76 season when we all know what happened to United. Wednesday avoided relegation to the 4th Division that season on the last day when a Ken Knighton winner gave them a victory.

A few of my Wednesday supporting mates do think they will go down this season. They might have scraped a few wins recently but so have their rivals. They, like us, are really struggling to score goals.

Agree, that's my greatest fear, we start badly, Wilder leaves, and we have a miserable season, whilst they fluke it. Let's enjoy our brief ascendancy whilst we can!

Ken Knighton's winner was in April 1974 (see photo below). They beat Bolton in their last game of the season and my Uncle Pete took me to the match (we won 1-0 at Ipswich that day). My uncle waited for Crystal Palace's result, they won and he thought Wendy still had a chance of going down so I corrected him that it was either Cardiff or Palace that will get the 3rd relegation spot because they were due to face each other a few days later and it wasnt possible for both to finish above Wendy. Allison's Palace failed to win their last match and went down. In Wendy's last game of the 1975-76 season they needed a draw at home to Southend to avoid relegation but they won 2-1

Wednesday will be absolutely fine this season. I reckon in the final shake-up they'll have enough points to have avoided relegation even if the full minus 12 had been upheld.

I really, really don't want to play them next season. For them, it's exactly the sort of game we would relish - unfancied underdogs, who've weathered points deductions, missed wage payments etc against a bunch of overpaid, expensive flops, whose fans have lorded it over you for three years.

If the situation was reversed you know how pumped up we'd be for that one (well not me, I hate all derbies, but you know the fans I mean).

That's my Dad's fault. He told me Knighton prevented them being relegated to Div 4!

I still think they will go down . They have won a few games more by luck than ability. They are a very poor side and an awful watch
