At every level, people (myself included) have doubted Bash. As we came up through the leagues, when the conversation frequently turned to new signings or where we need to strengthen the team, admit it Blades.....we all had a Basham replacement in mind.
But that man with every fibre of his body personifies SUFC. He has it all, drive, determination, attitude, gut for the battle and of course he has those silky skills when he goes forward.
He’s made all his critics eat vast amounts of humble pie, to the point we’re he now the first name on the team sheet.

Unfortunately for Bash the reasons why he is such an important player, are also the reasons for hindering his career. In the past his ability to play anywhere on the park has Inevitably lumbered him with that awful tag of “utility player.” This never help any players career, but since Bash has made RCB his own position......His fine legacy at this club is assured.

What I really love about Bash, even more than his determination, fitness, skill and reading of the game, is his humbleness, and how he just calmly takes each step up in his stride.

I have no doubts that whilst we are all eulogising about him on here today, he has just got up, had his breccy and trotted off to training without thinking he did anything particularly special last night.

He just keeps going, through the ups and downs. The ultimate professional. I imagine that Wilder probably rates him above all others to be honest.

I have a mate who used to play with Basham at Blackpool. Him and his wife both say that he is genuinely the nicest bloke they've met in football, he has nothing but praise for him. He reckons that anyone who's played with him in his early days will be surprised at where he is now and what he's achieved, but at the same time will be happy for him.

The lad Basham is starting to look a lot like last seasons Coady. A slow, non descript start developing into a fine player.

It seems to me that he is doing a better and better job each week wherever he plays!

Bash is an enigma- although flawed- he does what we all want, he takes them on, he drives forward, he never stops, any shortcomings in talent are made up in spades by pure heart.

Last nights performance in that second half was dream stuff a 10/10 for me.

Yes we are going down but to see fight and spirit is fantastic.

When you support a team like Sheff U- your used to tense moments but those last 15 my god it was fraught.

Billy should get one, surely his combined time at the club qualifies him. They are charity events now, but it would be nice to fill the ground for Billy and Bash.

Out of the current lot, i would argue Billy and Bash deserve the tesimonial. I think Billy might even get a stand/statue one day.

I actually think Didzy should have a testimonial too, i know he hasn't been at the club all that long, but he is another who personifies the Sheffield United spirit, he fights tirelessly and is never under a 6, even on the darkest days, leading from the front. He is an inspiration to everyone, how he has never given up with us, in his career and the injuries he has overcame to get to the top flight.

Big question is, would Jags qualify for testimonial? he's got the games under his belt... but the whopping 322 games spent at Everton might say differently... (would love to see the Warnock team back together just for laughs)

The old requirement used to be 10 years at a club but it's very rare players get that time at a club nowadays.

As a central defender, I don't remember much praise as a central midfielder other than his attitude and effort

I don't know too much about him other than what I see on the pitch week in week out, he seems a very unassuming type of bloke, but when, he hangs up his boots, knowing him that'll be in about 10 years I hope there's a place for him within the background staff, and I include sharp in that as well, their love of the club is unquestionable their desire and work ethic is undeniable and their knowledge of the game, the fans and the history of the club is infectious, so when their time comes to finish their careers it would be criminal to just say thanks and tara. That role shouldn't be just a meet and greet on matchdays but working with players young and old reminding them of their responsibilities

I've just watched a few clips of bash, last night and games gone by, what a player.....where would everyone rank him in the list of greats.........he makes my top 5 easily, and maybe sneaks into the top 3 and this is from supporting the MBs since 90/91

He is one of a handful of players who is going genuinely be a club legend. The type of player who will be watching United in the away end with all the fans.
He has been an absolute colossus for us and the fact that he seems a genuinely nice guy helps.
He is player of the year again for me already even when he’s not playing that well he always puts in 100%. Love the guy to death and epitomises us as a club.
