The reason Robson was appointed primarily in my opinion was that being an ex England captain known throughout the world was to spear head McCabe's vision of being a global brand. It was forgotton that Venables had to bail him out at Middlesborough. The off field development taking precedence over the football activity.
The majority of Blades fans were not in favour of the appointment as far as I can tell.
It is history as to what happened, which was the start of our decline, accompanied by the economic problems starting around then, our chairman being in property, his empire declining due to world wide problems, panic set in Beattie sold and the decline started and continues ever since.
Where will it end?

Two ways to look at that.

Scenerio 1. Its ends with escaping relegation, McCabe bailing out, eventual squad rebuilding and in the future Cork and Adams dancing up and down on the Wembley turf after breaking the big game hoodoo.

Scenerio 2. It ends in relegation this term, mid to lower half finish next season, followed by administration -10 points and a scrap to stay in the 3rd division and existence for the next 5-10 years.

Im praying to the Footballing gods its number 1.

put a sock in it colin.. why does he feel the constant need to stick his nose in our business?
if we'd have gone out for a couple of wins when playing away we wouldn't have been relegated.. as for resigning because a pissed up and upset sean bean was having a go at him.. pathetic

Quick question for you all. What exactly do you get from belittling folks?

It's not about belittling anybody. Correcting people's spelling and punctuation mistakes is more like a humanitarian action to preserve our biggest treasure.

Spot on in all aspects Kenty!

nice1 cuz nice1

nice to see us being grown up about this, and unless you are my cousin, please do not refer to me as such.

Asking people to spell properly isn`t belittling, its asking for you to take time over what you post, and if you know your spelling could be better, running it through a spell check.

Of course if you don`t know that your spelling needs work...

Not on this site it isnt

Yes it is. If someone quotes something incorrect, they're corrected. If someone insults someone, they're reprimanded. If someone uses incorrect English, they should be corrected. Here as in real life. People have an excuse for not "being reyt good in English, like", but they have no excuse for not seeing why it's important to improve.

Although unlike real life, we all have the opportunity to use a spell check before hitting "Submit" on here

It's interesting that people feel small when they're corrected. Wouldn't you want to do what you can to avoid making those mistakes?

No because at the end of the day its a forum and mistakes will happen. I just think theres too many little bizzy bodys wih nothing new to complain about

While I agree that the spelling is atrocious from the start (the thread title just doesn't make any sense at all with how it is read), we're detracting away from the thread.

The article is very correct in points, letting Warnock leave was a massive mistake. I firmly believe though that McCabe wanted a 'trophy manager', which he got.

It turned out sour (as many predicted) and we frittered away massive amounts of money on transfer fees and especially wages (James Beattie was a massive mistake).

Is it only me who actually thought we started to play better that season AFTER Beattie left??

I don't think it was as simple as that. Halford suddenly became a player at the same time if i remember rightly. We still missed a central striker in my opinion. How we could have done with a striker at Wembley for presence alone. Ward was never a direct replacement for BT and we had got rid of most of the rest

That don't have to happen.

wind your neck in

Don't mind him. He's just sore because I pointed out how childish he was being yesterday.

Nothing like kicking a team when its down? We are an easy target at the moment and we all know we are not liked so there are many laughing at us hoping we go down. As for the article itself some things obviously true some a bit far fetched, Can't remember us booing every week for a start if we weren't winning at home. I think with Neils spending power and high wage budget in this league any manager would find there team at the top, you only need to look at the top 6 at the mo. We all know we look doomed at the moment but pricks writing articles like that don't help.

He wasn't known for his large budgets when he got multiple other teams promoted. People might not like Warnock, but for anyone to try and argue that he isn't a top manager is just plain daft, IMHO.

Credit to those who can hold their hands up and say "Hey, I got it wrong".

If I wanted to get out of this league and had a half decent budget I'd get Warnock in. I think we should have given him the opportunity to try and get us up again with the players he knew and signed (some possibly knowing we might go down?).

That said it would have been extremely divisive as I think some blamed him for us going down. He's probably a better manager for having left us aswell and gaining a bit more experience in a different environment so it isn't all cut and dried. I put money on QPR to win the league at the start of the year and they have been the most consistent team IMO.

I think a lot of the article is bollocks though, it sounds like we hounded him out. I don't recall mass booing at halftime. He also didn't resign.

I think a few of us wished we had all took stock for a week after going down. Ok we made a mistake, but it seems everytime Neil gets the chance he is sticking the knife in. He is supposed to be a Blade so this is the point I don't understand

Is everybody who points out your failings a tool or am I getting preferential treatment?

moving on dude

There are a few things I blame for SUFC's plight but Warnock's departure is not one of them.

Interesting article but it really only skims over the full details of how we came to be where we are.

Agree. Following our promotion Warnock signed Lucketti, Hulse, Li Tie, Leigertwood, Sommeil, Davis, Nade and Bennett. It's no wonder we only lasted one season as Warnock was useless in the transfer market and those who have followed him have fared no better. It is the main reason we are where we are now now and unfortunately with his signings so far it looks very unlikely that Micky will buck the trend. Buy poor players and you get a poor team, not rocket science, and until Mccabe is replaced by someone capable of appointing the right manager we won't be making any progress.

The probelm is we were bottom fishing in the premiership. With hindsight, he'd have been better not spending the cash at all. But there is not a chance in hell that, for example, Warnock would have been allowed to shell out £40K per week for someone like Beattie.

Why is everybody acting like Warnock wrote the article himself? He's had SIX promotions and is currently well on his way to his SEVENTH. Is it just possible that a neutral journalist might think he's an good manager and Blades fan must regret him leaving? I know I do...

Well i seem to remember we deployed Henderson up there and he brought more players into the game than Beattie did - just my observation though. However I do agree that he could have made a massive difference in the Play Off final, where the OTHER BEATTIE 's contribution was laughable, although i can starkly remember not doing much laughing at the time :-(

Halford was excellent that last few months of the season, and i reckon other than Colchester, we had the best out of him.
