What's happening with these two?

Anyone know if they're about ready for the first team, surely can't be worse then what we already have?

And therein lies the problem - they can't be any worse, but there's a good chance they aren't any better. We need better quality players not just future possibles or battlers. We need creative skillful players.

not so WW, what we need is belief and commitment, skill is summat that improves with playing and training.
in the position we find ourselves id rather have 11 commited players than 11 skilful players going thru the motions, ive seen most of championship teams and all of the top teams qpr etc hve a decent balance of mostly battlers with a smattering of skill.
i agree more creativity is definately first order now, if its from someone already at the club or to be brought in on loan i dont know but it does need addressing immediately.

sorry mate but you have this 'totally' arse about face.. you can't improve skill you either have it at 15 or you will never have it.. i'm sick of all of these fucking battlers.. we have 'no' players with any skill whatsoever, if we had we'd have sold them anyway.. the fact that montgomery is the captain of this team makes me fucking sick

Agree that we need belief and commitment but why should a couple of young kids from Ireland have either? However, it might be time to put out a team of kids and tell them they are playing for contracts next season.

apologies munxy.. my reposte was a bit over the top.. sorry..
apart from williamson and ched (ok and wardy at times but he's off anyway) who in our team would you say stands out as being above pub level.. our problem is we have too many scrappers.. you need to get a balance

Wait... what?

Why should a couple of young kids from Ireland NOT have either?

What I mean is belief and commitment in the Blades. They might have belief and commitment to want a contract - see Cresswell last season and this - but we need players that want to play for Sheffield United and keep us up not just players that want to play.

And if they come from Ireland then they wouldn't want that?

What if they're from Barnsley? Would a guy from Ireland be passionate about playing for any English club? I'm curious about the logic on this one.

League 1 for them would be better than what they had back in Ireland and they might not even be Championship standard so no matter how passionate they wouldn't be in the team. I don't know the lads. Maybe they've been Blades since birth. However, it is possible (and probably more likely) that someone from Barnsley might be a Blade. I know quite a few Irish people working in England who would rather be back in Ireland but have a job and better opportunities here. I don't think they're passionate about living/being here. It's just circumstances/economics that dictate that they are. In my opinion, I think this is probably true of the Irish kids. If QPR had offered them contracts, they'd now be living in London not Sheffield.

Basically what I'm trying to say is that I want to see someone who wants to play in the red and white stripes. Someone who feels it - e.g. Chris Morgan

Being a Sheffield United fan is no guarantee of being a success at Bramall Lane. See Billy Sharp and Jack Lester for examples. Being Irish is no guarantee of not having a passion for success - at any club. See Robbie & Roy Keane for examples.

And you keep repeating that these guys MIGHT not be good enough. Unless you accept that there is an equal chance that they also MIGHT be good enough, there's no point in repeating something about two guys you know nothing about.

see Mickey.. NOW HOLD ON A MINUTE..
sorry it was an open goal.. i knew i'd get booked if i put the ball in the net but couldn't resist ;)

If they want to play for a better club than sheffield united, then that's great news for us.

They aren't going to get noticed in our reserve team, so they'll be putting in the effort to break through to the first team and get in the shop window.

Lester did alright for us.

Certainly could go down like a sack of spuds to win us penalties.

Jack Lester had a 1-in-4 average for us. At Chesterfield, he currently has a 1-in-2 average, suggesting he has found his level in League Two. If it's a choice between Irish lads and League Two Blades, I'll take the Irish lads.

Yossarian - do you actually know these lads? I ask because you seem convinced that they can step up and be first team Championship players. If you don't know them then how can you say that two Irish lads would be better than League Two Blades? I would imagine that the quality of many League Two teams is above and beyond the level that they were playing in Ireland. Or are you Irish and therefore partisan?

And just going back to my original statement, I still don't think that they will necessarily have the passion and commitment to the team that I would want (please note that 'I' would want not anyone else). I appreciate that players who are Blades are not going to be the best players for the team as in the examples you quoted. However, I want a team of Sheffield players born and bred. Players hewn from Yorkshire stone, bottle fed Hendos and Christened/baptised/Gurmuked/blessed/named on the Kop.

No, I'm simply saying that I know them just as much as you do - not at all. But I'm prepared to be open minded about them and their chances. You'll not forget, we're not that bad at spotting and developing the potential in youth.
