What sort of people chant 'wanker' at a player as he's carried off on a stretcher with what's clearly a serious injury?

Been going since '88 and never seen that at BDTBL. Good work lads.

At Hillsborough a few year back, Alan Quinn broke his leg against us playing for the Pigs. I feared that he'd get abused but the majority of the Blades fans - despite him being a Snortbeast at the time - clapped him off. It's one of the unwritten rules of being a football fan. To be fair, when Wardy got stretchered off against Wednesday last season, the majority of their fans applauded him too. The front row could see he was giving them the finger mind you ...

Contrast that against Leicester City's fans tonight. Whatever Mattock may (or may not) have done, he had clearly suffered a serious knee/leg injury. The reaction of the majority of LCFC fans on that side of the stand was disgusting. They disgraced their club, their city and football tonight. If the kid's career is over, I hope they suffer the same fate in their lifetime. To be fair, there were a portion of their fans in that area that also applauded Mattock - they were clearly embarrassed by the vile songs and chants of their fellow fans.

I didn't like LCFC fans when I visited the Walkers last season. I certainly don't know. Someone should ask their players and management what they thought of their fans' behaviour tonight.

What a bunch of wankers. Giving him grief beforehand was fair enough. The chants a he lied in agony were a complete disgrace. You're right, those fans nearer to him seemed embarrassed. I would be too if I were a Leicester fan tonight.

It was really odd - what is the history behind it?
In general, they seemed like a complete bunch of billy bigtimers with fuck all to be billybig time about.
Spent loads of money and have ended up with a typically colourless Sven team capable of spawning results here and there but likely to go absolutely nowhere.

He left them under a bit of a cloud and said a few silly things to the press.

A bit worse than that, wasn't it. Didn't he chin a bird in a nightclub?

As I say, the initial abuse was to be expected. Keeping it up as he writhed in agony was classless.

Give over...the Pig fans gave Wardy some right abuse which is why he gave them the finger. Doesn't bother me to be honest - all part of the game / rivalry. Shame for Mattock ...but he has looked shockingly poor.

The Wednesday fans coined Wardy when he was stretchered off. He came into training the next day with what he called his "collection", it was something like £4.32, he was well chuffed with it.

I thought exactly the same and was disgusted by it, no matter how a player leaves a club they shouldn't receive that. Then my brother reminded me of this....

From what I remember about the day, we were all singing "He's got foot and mouth!" & "Pig, pig, pig!"

I didn't remember this until I was reminded about it but it just goes to show the blinkered vision by us Blades

There's the thing with him getting in a fight with two women when pi$$ed as well. That seems to be their main reason for it.

He was windmilling defensively having got into a fracas with some kid in a nightclub in Liecester who objected to him being there following his recent transfer.
The young "ladies" in question walked on to his fists rather than him deliberately punching them

Has his injury been confirmed? At the time I thought he might have been saying down because he didn't fancy it, he was having a 'mare.

Yes, disgraceful.

Not one United player went to see how he was either when on floor or when he was carted off (don't think so anyway). Not good either for me.

Personally I would never get involved in this type of behaviour, but I must admit that i'd be very tempted with certain players who i've despised over the years. I'd have to bite my lip severely with some players

As has been mentioned, the pig fans gave a lot of abuse to Jamie Ward last season, his only crime? Playing for us!

I don't know about Alan Quinn, I've certainly never heard that before or heard anything similar at the lane from Blades fans.

As for Mattock, he was charged with assault in a Leicester nightclub, so there is some history there

But all that said, its still wrong.

Talking of abusing players – two walking zits near me were giving Kyle Naughton some real stick last night. Booing him every time he got the ball and generally hurling abuse his way when he was playing down the John Street side in the 2nd half.

These two shits used to regularly abuse Bromby, Geary & A. Quinn because of their piggy past too and always boo any old player who comes back with another team.

A right pair of ugly, spotty, mouthy obnoxious bastards.

With regards to Ward being taken off a few oinkers threw stuff at him despite most seeming to clap him.

Its fair to say most clubs have their c**t elememt of fans.

I particularly dislike jeering former players in they left in amicable circumstances. There's no need, we're not West Ham. And booing former Wednesday players who play for us is just moronic.

Thank God I wasn't the only one, that was my first impression too.

Believe me ,we had a good view of it and his foot was at an angle a foot aint supposed to go .

From the moment he hit the ground his leg never moved ,hed either broken or dislocated something or possibly both.not a pretty site and i`d be suprised if he gets back soon ,but you never know I could be wrong

I was in the Kop. I'm just talking about my initial impression, I'm in no doubt now that he was badly hurt.

He seemed to fall over, look up and see the ball was gone and just decide to lie down. Obviously that's not what happened but that's what I thought at the time.

It's just baffling how wound up some fans get over former players! The final home game of the promotion season everyone in the stadium was in party mood apart from one miserable fucker behind me who told everyone around him that if Deane came on he'd "Boo the Leeds scum and walk out". Deane was brought on for a few final minutes and this chump abuses him and then walks out of the ground!

The guy misses the presentation of the trophy to the team, the lap of honour, the whole party cos he was still upset that a club legend left to play for Leeds.

Fair do`s ,he looked for the physio straight away and his body moved from the waist up ,as I say his injured leg never moved an inch and those of us with a view new straight away it was nasty ,he was laid face down and his foot was almost pointing upwards ..ouch

To be fair the Leicester player and the physio ushered the players away and signalled to them not to go near.

Let's hope gareth Ainsworth if he's still playing has a serious injury at the Lane and none of you start calling him a wanker, i reckon mnost of you probably would.

I'm pleased for the lads sake that it isn't worse. Based on what we've seen so far, which to be fair isn't isn't enough to judge, I have some doubt we'll be rushing him back.

Actually I wouldn't. I've no first hand knowledge of his alleged crimes beyond the one shocking tackle on Dane. One bad tackle and a lot of hearsay doesn't make up my mind about a player.
