i dont know if its just me but i think id like to see ward playing more of a striker position than out on the wing?

Just a few games maybe see how he takes to it

What do people think?

I tend to agree. He seems such a mardy sod stuck out on that wing but alongside a decent striking partner he's well worth a shot. I think he'd relish playing up front with somebody like Bent or Hendo (when fit) but think he'll just need to bide his time until the wide positions are filled by Micky properly.

Ward gets alot of chances he hasn't scored since feb 2010 unless you count his recent penalty.Ward bearing down on a keeper would hardly make him shake in his boots.

A big kick up the arse required. After lots of promise, his career is in danger of going down the toilet.

UTB

Ward was one of our poorest players on the pitch today.

I agree.

People slag Monty off for not being able to pass but after the first 20 minutes, I can't remember a pass from Wardy going to a United player!

He played us into danger twice in second half, when all that was need was a bit of thought and patience, still I reckon that was one of his better performances in a while and it was nothing above average, still don't reckon he's 100%.

Think a spell on the bench is required. We got zero from him going forward and he never helps out his full back he was carried all game

Ward is a striker, not a winger, (a whinger, maybe......) but Ched has hinted at finding his scoring boots at long last so can't be dropped, Bent seems well up for it and I think in Ched & Bent we could be as close to Deane & Agana as we have been for a long time...................but..............and it's a BIG BUT.......they need the ammo. Ward, Cresswell and Yeates aint the right ones to provide that ammo so for me the most desparate postion to fill is someone who can beat the full back and PUT A FUCKING CROSS IN!

NOT rocket science.

Ched and Marcus are the 2 of a 4-4-2, of that I am definite.

the rest.................apart from Monty, (fuck me, did I just say that!) are anyones guess but I would go for;

GK - Long (why not?)

RB - Lowton
CB - Bartley
CB - Lowry
LB - Mattock

RM - ?
CM - Monty
CM - ?
LM - ?

CF - Evans
CF - Bent

Wardy had a bloody mare today, and as much as I rate him, he looked a mardy little fucker today, and doesn't take anyone on anywhere near enough, he is not a winger IMO.

Ward is shocking IMO. He doesn't bring anything to the team. He is rubbish out wide as is Cresswell. We need wingers. As the poster above stated maybe just maybe we might have got our front 2 now lets start getting ammo to them so they can finish. Ward needs to move on to free up some wage and bring a better player in. It hasn't worked out for him since his injury. He has looked abysmal. On another note why is our final ball so shocking. Numerous occasions today the final ball into the box was shocking.

He's quite simply awful. No longer seems to try and turn full backs inside out and has definitely lost some of his pace.

I wouldn't.

I don't think he's a striker, he's a winger who likes to cut inside as he beats his defender for pace. Besides, in Bent & Ched, plus Boggy on the bench we have 3 decent strikers who I think can serve us well. But they need the service.

Ward is way out of form and if we can get someone else on the wing he'll be warming the bench for a while.

And i'll say it again, can someone keep him away from set pieces, he's got this vision of himself as some sort of roberto carlos, but really he looks more like roberto Kozluk on set pieces... in fact Kozzy has a more lethal set piece in his throw!

What has Ward actually done for us since scoring v the pigs?

I'd be tempted to put Quinn out on the left wing and hope he regains some of the promise he showed there during our Premiership season. Then on the right hand side, let Yeates and Ward battle it out until we get somebody in.

I thought Quinn showed some flashes of his past form the other day, despite that I don't think centre mid is his position.

If only he could sort his concentration and aggression out. I was so glad to see Adams haul him off before he got sent off!

Got an injury that has completely fucked him over about 10 minutes later and never been the same since.

I don't know whether it's permanent or in his head but his pace has gone. He was a decent second striker with an eye for goal (too greedy and never the vision for a winger) who has lost his main asset (his pace).
At the moment he is a liability. Time away from the first team getting fully back to fitness (mind and body) is the only answer for me.
So who to play out wide? As we let the clueless wanker get rid of any decent wide men we might be struggling for a while yet.

Wardy is a striker. He doesnt want to play out wide. His body language and performances suggest as much.

I'm a fan of his, but whilst Ched and Bent looks promising Wardy should be on the bench waiting for his chance. Shoe horning him into a wide position makes us look unbalanced as a team but I'm sure Micky doesnt have any other option at the moment.

He looks much better on the wing, but needs to sort his head out

I prefer him as a front man, up there with Bent would be good-but the only striker scoring for us at the moment is from the unlikeliest of sources-Chedwyn. Ched and Ward up front doesn't fill me with confidence but think that Bent and Ward would be a good combination.
