Elite clubs and the rest

Chelsea spent over £200 million in close season and now look at them. Talk is that they are looking for a new manager. I read that Timo Werner hasn't scored in 12 games. He cost £48 million. That's the difference between the elite clubs and the plebs. The top four/six can afford to spend £70 million on a dud. Chelsea's keeper Kepo for instance now on the bench £72 million. How many centre backs have City bought and moved on at a huge loss? If it doesn't work out they just go out and spend £25 million like Chelsea did with their new keeper Mendy or £70 million like City did with Ruben Diaz. Point is if we spend £20 million plus on a player we can't afford to write it off. So maybe CW deserves some breathing room.

I've been in two minds but looking around I think we should stick rather than twist. And I'd rather be a pleb than an aristocrat. I've accepted we're down now. I think we all do. It's about moving forward. CW has earned another crack at it and I'm sure he's learned from this season. We all have.

That’s exactly it until us and clubs similar to us have the money to pay top end wages for top end players it’ll be the same cycle forever, every now and again you’ll get a team that does well with a few cheap gem signings good management and spirit when others have an off season but only every blue moon UTB

Isn't that the issue at Spurs that they will only pay a certain amount on wages. Hence why Spurs struggle to always attract the best players.

No, we should strive to be part of it, but we have to accept that we were never going to be able to stay in it indefinitely.

The same applies to at least 9 clubs who don't relegated this season; in the next half dozen seasons all of those will be relegated too.

The critical matter for the non-elite clubs is how they respond to relegation.
 
Id like to who/why a private helicopter landed at shirecliffe training ground this afternoon? Couldnt see who it was, does anyone know ?

The problem with this argument is that you're talking of competing with Chelsea and Man City.

You don't have to compete with those 2 to stay in this league.
 
It’s not even elite clubs. Reports saying Haller is going to Ajax for £20 million at a loss of £25 million.

And no way is his current thieving sham of a club an elite club.

Mind how much is he on a year?, how many years are left on his contract? and it could be a ‘saving’ of £20 million on paying wages to bench warm.

Odd business is the Premiership in so many ways...

It's hard to disagree with the second part of your post for sure. I have always maintained that the end goal is a European Super League and every year with the obscene money in football I am yet to move from that belief. It is a tough one for sure and a difficult dilemma when you are in the Premier League but hate so much about the way the system is. Some of the wages are frankly immoral and an utter disgrace.

It is a great point. Clubs like Burnley and Crystal Palace should be the aim at the moment, then perhaps the likes of Leicester who have invested wisely over the years with excellent scouting. Yes, they pay huge wages but they built slowly since coming in to the League. There is plenty to aim for but like last season, a LOT has to go right.

I don't think Werner is a dud. This is something many of our fans ust don't get! Even the bigger signings can take time to settle, especially from abroad, and many of our fans are clambering for us to sign more affordable players from abroad. But next season, maybe even the season after Werner could be the best forward in the PL. Just look at Mo Salah's time at Chelsea. But yes, Chelsea can afford to do that and wait as they already have other top forwards. Sadly, we needed Brewster to hit the ground running and that was a lot of pressure on the young man's shoulders.

As you say, time for the club to be patient ans tick with Wilder and for Wilder to stick with the likes of Brewster and Ramsdale, not that he would do otherwise and he doesn't have that option even if he wanted to!
