Manager needs to leave now

I worry that the situation is worse than the current obvious on field disaster and the question of whether Chris stays or departs.

McCabe was/is a Blade who, whatever his faults and mistakes, was never going to walk away when the going got tough. The current set?....

United are in this position because the players aren't good enough to be in this division, and the only reason they are here in the first place is because of Wilder

Probably no other manager in the Championship would have got that group of players up.

Were Villa better managed, better organized, better pieced together than the Blades, or did they have more team spirit or endeavour? No, but critically they had better players, which meant that they could bridge the Championship - PL gap much more easily.

And Villa have spent heavily since to consolidate their promotion.

United were always sailing close to the wind, as any team whose success is based on management/esprit de corps/endeavour is, because if any of those ingredients take a turn for the worse there isn't the individual quality there to sustain the team.

How Wilder got United to 9th last season was a footballing miracle, based on what he had to work with.

This mess isn't down to Wilder, it's the result of a lack of financial backing, the age-old story.

And before anyone mentions poor recruitment, let's not forget that recruitment is based on the wage structure.

I would bring in Van winkle till the end of the season and then go for Stevie Gerrard who has done a good job at Rangers.
Best replacement suggestion yet, but think Mr Gerrard has his eye on another club, some more experience, few trophies under his belt and when the time is right the jobs his, I recon.

100% agree. For the good of the club, players and himself. He must go. The whole club needs a massive reset.
Agree a massive reset is needed but you don’t have to sack the manager to do that...some creative thinking needed in my opinion.

I don’t think binning Wilder is the answer. However he really needs to stop being stubborn. I do have another theory that his approach is a bit of message to the board to say that we need more investment if we’re to move forward. There is no manager out there realistically that I’d rather have than CW but there needs to be some big changes before I see us winning games and that will only happen in the summer

Chelsea currently sit 7th in the PL.
Is Lampard a better manager than Wilder? No, but he's got better players to work with.
Some fans blame results/recruitment solely on the manager, when to a large extent they're down to investment/the wage structure.
Wilder's a victim of his own success, in that he's been pulling rabbits out of hats for so long now that fans take it as the norm.
I'm cloven hoofed, and I can tell you that it isn't. Believe me.

It's going to take a fucking miracle for us to stay up this season, a new manager won't make an ounce of difference. Who, of any level of competency do people seriously think will want to take on a club heading for the Championship? We're not going to attract anyone better than the likes of the permanently unwanted managers such as Mark Hughes. We should stick with Wilder. I honestly don't think there's a better option for us at present.

You can blame the players for exactly the reasons you have given! Chris is giving the same instructions, same training, same man management that he has done since 2016 and he’s been very successful. So if he’s doing the same thing, the only people who aren’t, are the players.
One big difference is that in previous seasons, every player knew his job and where his team mates would be. We don't have that now. For different reasons, the team is still in constant flux. Nobody is building in confidence in their position or role.
Then for man management , for example, Bogle plays a blinder on his debut and scores, which is rare for anybody now for us, and next game is benched.

The other day he said he would walk if he thought it was the right thing for the club. It's so obvious we're lost in a deep abyss. Not one single player knows what they're meant to be doing and believe me, this will follow us into the championship if something doesn't change soon.
I pretty sure the players know what they are doing, imo it's down to lack of confidence or quality.

I agree.

There's nothing in it for United to sack Wilder, in fact if that happened the benefits of playing in the PL would be cast away at a stroke.

There's absolutely nothing wrong whatsoever with his footballing ethos IMO, but he just needs better players playing it, that's all.

When he watches Chelsea play, Wilder must note a whole string of mistakes made by Lampard - but Lampard gets away with it because of the quality of Chelsea's players.

I bet the players have dug him out of a hole many a time, whereas Wilder's on his own.

And Wilder will have gained a tremendous amount of experience from this PL experience, so he'll better know what's required the next time around.

He played a blinder getting United up on a shoestring, but without enormous investment the club was always going to be in an exposed position once promoted.

What difference will changing manager do??
We’re already down,
I’d sooner lose every game than have someone like Pardew, Mark Hughes or the like come in.
The possible benefit would be that the new manager would have much more time with the players scheming up his/the teams plans for the upcoming campaign. The sad fact is that I struggle to see any decent manager wanting to take up the work in these circumstances. Pardew nor Hughes wouldn't keep un in the PL. But if we keep the current manager, what good will that do to us? Going down with an older, sh*ttier team having lost its confidence, and its confidence to to the manager? Needing to sell all the "young gems" for peanuts...

It's just a question of whether Wilder can do it again and the jury's out on that.
We are going to be a needing a clear out and he seems like he's got too attached to some of his bad decisions.
I don't know what the answer is either but watching this football makes me feel ill :(

Keep the manager and start getting shut of some of the supposed pro’s who are letting him, and us, down every week. If they don’t want to play for him then they should be shown the door. Alluded to a similar list in the shoutbox but I could conceivably get rid of the following if we can sign some hungrier players:

Fleck
Norwood
Sharp
Stevens
Robinson
Mousset
Lundstram

All of these are stealing a wage from us at the moment given their respective outputs. I’ve deliberately tried not to include your McBurnie’s and Brewster’s as the effort is clearly there and have potential to improve. Also left out the squad filler as it’s obvious some need to leave.

Sadly a number of these first teamers have been given good contracts and will be difficult to shift unless we can subsidise their moves.

Wilder needs to shoulder some blame but this set of players are getting off far too lightly. It’s not the manager that prevents these clowns from stringing a few passes together which is really basic stuff. It’s clear to me some of them from that list simply don’t have the heart/bollocks to take responsibility for their form and are hiding in an attempt to not be shown up further.

I wouldn’t bat an eyelid or shed a tear if we got shut of all of those in one go. As Wilder says there’s no room for sentiment so let’s get started on a rebuild.

Oh I just wish this imposter calling himself Chris Wilder would take his mask off and tell us where the real CW is being held captive.

He's changed, almost totally. He changed before this rot set in, maybe around 12 months ago. It pains me to see him now and think back just 12 months how much of a different character he was.

The lack of fans badly exposes the ability of our players combine that with losing our best two players in JOC and hendo and it's just been an utter disaster

Thing is with Wilder in charge some of these players have had their money doubled tripled since he’s been manager and yet they can’t pay him back I honestly think a bit of efforts there but they could do more the players

As far as the players are concerned it’s very simple..if they aren’t performing but have the talent and a good attitude then that’s what the coaching is there for. If they have shown their ability to perform but won’t then they need to go.

If a new manager came in he would only have the same players to work with, Klopp wouldn’t be able to keep this lot up!
We’re going down regardless of who the manager is, unless Wilder walks, he isn’t going anywhere.
I think the majority of blades want him to stay.

What a load of fair weather crap on here. A lot of you clearly don’t remember the garbage we had to endure ended Atkins. Or you’re just a load of overweight, beer swilling plebbs who think they know better. I’d love to see you try. You should be getting behind Wilder not calling for him to be sacked!

United are in this mess because of the lack of quality of the players.

What's happening to United re' this run doesn't usually happen, because most managers aren't good enough to get a squad like this in to the PL in the first place.

If your success in the PL is based purely on managerial skills, team spirit, being on the crest of a wave emotionally and being an unknown quantity, then you're vulnerable.

Those qualities are very good, but they're short-lived, fragile, and not enough on their own.

At this level they need to be backed up by ability, and that's the chairman's responsibility as he holds the purse strings.

It shows up the lack of quality in the rest of our squad where basically without a fully fit JOC and Henderson going back, we've fallen off the wagon altogether. The mainstays of the squad besides have barely changed yet we've nosedived. Why? When and where was the tipping point for this? Newcastle away was the first really bad performance last season but we came back fighting and got some good results after it until the end where they sacked it off when there was nothing to play for.

I think we all knew that we wouldn't repeat last season and that we'd be a bit nearer the bottom but Christ almighty this is another level of decline.

We've spent a lot of money by our own standards but haven't improved the squad. Some of the team selections and substitutions look like they've been drawn from a bingo machine.

Our recruitment has been dreadful whether it's spending millions on players with barely a full season's football under their belts before they arrived, signing average Championship players as back ups or establishing Chris Wilders centre for homeless footballers. Liverpool have done to us with Brewster what we did with Slew and Blackburn.

As much as Wilder has undeniably done for us, this is an almighty fuck up and I don't know how much longer he can dine out on past achievements, you're only as good as your last game IMO. If we hadn't gone on the journey we had with him, he'd almost certainly have been sacked by now. Had we started last season like this as many thought we would, it'd be a case of fair enough, we aren't good enough but proved last season that we were and that's what is so galling about this whole situation.

Wilder has said all along that he won’t pay more than he thinks the player is worth so why do I always see people blaming the Prince when he’s clearly backed Wilder very well indeed and given him funds that I’ve never seen all the Blades managers in my lifetime have combined, never mind recently?

Anyone blaming a lack of backing is barking up the wrong tree, doing it to lay no blame at Wilders door, that’s all well and good if you want to keep him but you shouldn’t blame something that has fuck all to do with this dire predicament we currently find ourselves in.

No one could blame the Prince for giving him the bullet either, he has given Wilder real backing and has said he won’t be sacked so fuck knows what more some fans could want from the Prince?

Wilder needs to change but for some reason he won’t, the most notable, and for me the best part of Wilders management traits from the very start was that he wasn’t stubborn with anything at all, in the last 12 months or so he couldn’t be any more opposite if he tried. I love what he’s done to this club, by giving it back to us but he’s undoing all the unbelievably hard work he’s done by being stubborn, I don’t know what’s happened to him, it’s very saddening.

It’s very hard to back blindly and that’s what all us Blades fans are doing by sticking by him because there’s no evidence to suggest the manager we have today, and the players we have today are going to do it next season, it’s very hard indeed.

This is exactly my response to people who say ‘he’s the best man to take us back up’

Absolute shite mate.
These players DO have ability. They have proven this over the last 3 or 4 years. The enjoyable thing about watching our rise was watching seemingly players who were mainly regarded as cast offs playing expansive attacking football. Even last season in the PL! But with ability you also need confidence. And be able to express yourself. Quality wise At the moment we are not playing anywhere near were we were last season. We seem to have completly lost our playing style and either resort to hoof and losing possession or overplaying it around the opposition box and losing possession or lose possession after being pressed by opposition players.

What rot 12 months ago?

12 months ago we lost 1 game in 12 before losing to City.
