Thought we were crying out for Basham's enthusiasm in midfield. He tried from where he was, but he was restricted by his position. Quite surprising, given the impact he had on us achieving a result against Brighton. Thought this was a good chance to beat Everton. The conditions meant it was difficult to get anywhere with neat passing, but wholehearted runs, chasing, running and shooting on sight may have been effective.

In Norwegian, but continual suggestions that we push Basham into midfield...

Jack Robinson/ Ben Osborn in a two for one Boxing Day sale

True, but we can never blame them, not their fault, reminds me of this:

The Charge of the Light Brigade was a failed military action involving the British light cavalry led by Lord Cardigan against Russian forces during the Battle of Balaclava on 25 October 1854 in the Crimean War. Lord Raglan had intended to send the Light Brigade to prevent the Russians from removing captured guns from overrun Turkish positions, a task for which the light cavalry were well-suited. However, there was miscommunication in the chain of command and the Light Brigade was instead sent on a frontal assault against a different artillery battery, one well-prepared with excellent fields of defensive fire. The Light Brigade reached the battery under withering direct fire and scattered some of the gunners, but they were forced to retreat immediately, and the assault ended with very high British casualties and no decisive gains.

Indeed. That and not giving Bogle a chance after he impressed in the last game.

And bringing off Didzy, and losing Burke..........and ...........

He put in the best midfield performance of the season V Man Utd, so why we didn't use that as a catalyst is a mystery to me...

Surely main mistake is we didnt score and they did ?

I thought Amapadu was our best midfielder. Box to box and drove us forward. Lost of good switching of play. He is lightweight and does make too many mistakes but need a run in that position. I'd be happy with Bash in midfield but then whoever replaces him at the back is likely to be worse. They're already carrying Robinson.

Strange that the Bogle experiment lasted for 30 minutes last week.

Back to bringing Norwood on...

Also, the big mistake (again) was the amateurish defending for the goal.

Yeah, Bogle played with confidence and scored. He had won a start.
Didz, our top scorer by a long stretch, as well as a play maker, brought off. I don't get that.

inept substitutions yet again..he was desperate to get Mcshite back in the team so he can play his long ball shit tactics, Bogle should have been on not Norwood. Stubborn 'my way' bastard!

Main mistake was the formation... Needs to change its just not working
It was sort of a new formation tonight with a 3-4-2-1 shape:

So I think we wanted Brewster and McGoldrick to help out in midfield defensively, but join up with Burke when we were attacking.

As this wasn't hugely successful, especially going forward, I think it would have been worth trying to tweak it like this:

I think this could have given us more effective pressing play in midfield with Osborn and Bash working their socks off. Maybe there would have been risks involved with potentially Robinson more isolated with DCL, but Everton also struggled to give him service and if we could have managed to dictate things with better pressing and fighting they may have struggled even more.

Its stage fright.
Last season they were fearless
Went on the pitch and smashed it
This season they look like a once great comedy act that's forgotten all his jokes
You’re clutching at straws pal. Face it, last season means nothing in the context of this season.

Why it wasn’t changed to this with 4 at the back earlier is totally beyond me. Everton were awful today and there for the taking.

I said it all the way up until they scored, we’re going to wait again until we go behind before putting Bash in midfield and have a go.

Why play three central defenders marking 1 striker, when they’re not overlapping or getting forward?

Totally defensive system and more importantly defensive approach from Chris yet again.

I’ll take losing if we have a go as we did against Man U no problem. That was embarrassing.

Going from playing a 10 and looking semi attacking to bringing on McBurnie and Norwood will never work.

The biggest mistake is not starting Mousset. Without doubt. Although I would agree that Bash needs to be moved into midfield

Fulham get Loftus Cheek, Villa get Barkely, and we get.... ?
You do understand the wages of some of these players dont you? Do you know what Watkins is on, for example? Would you think it's around double our record signing? Do you fully 'get' the pond we're fishing in?

Before any tramp wades in I think mcburnie was a shit signing, ok?
