It’s not laughable at all. We have a song which lauds him as being one of our own. Of course the affinity with his legend is the fact that he’s a blade, lives amongst us, drinks in our pubs, sits with us in the stands etc. If he was literally any other manager no way is he still in job. The point I was agreeing with was the level of aggression deployed by those staunchly defending this unfolding clusterfuck, is clearly fuelled by a heightened sense of many people seeing him as just like them. Ergo, an attack on him is personal.
He didn’t say anything about aggressive responses defending him. He said people would want him out if it wasn’t for the fact he was in his 50’s, and a bit like them

“Let's face it, if he wasn't a 50 something year old Blades fan that all the other 50 something year old Blades fans on here see as a reflection of themselves everyone would be calling for his head”

He’s complaining about people supporting him, not defending him aggressively as you somehow assert.

Given Wilder’s track record, I find that conclusion ridiculous.

Erm, yes it is.
How on earth is it? What have Burnley spent this season? We’ve spent more than Burnley in two years then they have over the past 4 season. It’s not down to money at all, as it wasn’t last season.

If Wilder still can't see the system doesn't work god help us.
This kind of response infuriates me. Same with the formation....

There IS NO SYSTEM, this is absolutely fuckall like what we used to play like.

THere is also no formation, fuck the 5-3-2/3-5-2..... Southampton for the majority of that first half we played 5-5-0. We had 10 men within 40 yards of Ramsdale throughout it.

You said it was nothing to do with money, but it is. It's not the only reason, but it's an easily quantifiable cornerstone. Liverpool and man city have loads of money and win the premiership, Chesterfield don't have a pot to piss in and are in the conference. That sort of reason.

We went all out to get Europe last season so much so we risked JOC and he is now out for the season.

Wilder was that desperate to get in Europe that when we lost to Leicester he absolutely destroyed the players verbally and it seems like we have never recovered from that. Not getting a replacement for JOC in pre season and having dead players in the squad like Robinson and Rodwell is a huge oversight

There we have it confirmed, Wilder has lost the plot. And some of my respect with it.

He's oblivious to his own failings. That alone is enough to put doubts into the players minds, and it's translating onto the pitch.

What has come before holds no weight. If he's lost it he's lost it and I don't see it coming back any time soon.

I fully expect him to spit dummy out and walk before the Prince swings the axe, blaming everyone but himself in the process.

He has to be a tad political. If he were to admit proportionate fault and take responsibility for the horrendous run he may be respected but he'd look incompetent. He'd be writing his own letter of dismissal.

Yes agree with that. However look at what we acheived over the past two seasons with a budget nowhere near where we finished. If budget was one of the main reasons for success we wouldnt have spent as long as we did in league 1

The first 30 mins yesterday were atrocious, Chris knew that and that's why the 5 or so minutes after half time were the best bit for us. He'd obviously said it as it was.

They score a flukey goal- game over.

I'm not sure how you want Chris to react in the interviews, he can't just throw them all under a bus like he probably would like to, he has to try to rally a very down group to play Man U in a few days.

But calling for the guys head is straight bonkers, yes we are going down, it's not escapable now- but for what he's done and how far we have come- of course he deserves a crack at the Championship next year the credit he's got in the bank is enormous. And its the sensible business thing to do..

I hope he ditches trying to hold back the opposition, lets go down with a proper fight Chris, caution totally to the wind. And next year this team will get us back with you in charge.

Sam Allardyce = No F****** Thanks
Without wanting to repeat prior posts, the last time we were in the top division was under Warnock. It was time to move on some said.
So the hotseat went like this:
Robson
Blackwell
Speed
Carver
Adams
Wilson
Morgan
Weir
Morgan
Clough
Adkins
Wilder

10 incumbents in the hotseat in 9 years before Wilder.

Warnock's trajectory meanwhile:
Palace - beset with financial problems but Championship 3 years, including play offs
QPR - Championship winning promotion, Premiership season curtailed
Leeds - Championship, 1 year
Palace again - Premier league 6 months
QPR - Championship caretaker
Rotherham - Championship 6 months, amazing survival job.
Cardiff - 3 years, promotion, 2 Championship, 1 Premiership.
Boro - Championship, ongoing.

So in all 3 separate occasions in the Premier League, 2 from his own promotion as well as a play off appearance and the rest never below the Championship.

Meanwhile in S2...prior to Wilder we had 4 Championship seasons with one play off final loss a relegation and 5 League One seasons.

Unless there is a really excellent plan, I'd say getting rid of Wilder ends far more badly than keeping him and taking a longer term view.

I should add I thoroughly respect Revolution's angle on this too. I'm as fearful of the club's ability to replace as I am of Wilder still being well placed to take us back.

Good to hear Wilder accepting he has been largely at fault and vowing to get the fire back in the players belly.

Starting to sound a little bit like the old Wilder... Baby steps.

He says similar a fair bit before most matches then his post match presser is back to saying things like we were in the game for a the most part and blowing smoke up the oppositions arse.

I thought this latest on football heaven clips was awful. Stuttering like a cornered schoolboy over changing the system which he says works. How can it possibly be justified as working with all these losses in a row ? As usual lately comes over as prickly and overly sensitive to what has been said on forums etc. Speaks of the players being low this week just what manu want to hear. Getting tips from interviewer on how to motivate them. Frankly he sounds out of his depth, demotivated and clueless about how to affect change. Any other manager sounding like this would be history. So sad for him and the club and laughably as usual after PA vote of confidence that will be the death knell. Damn those football gods who keep spitting in our face this season. Thanks for us being the only club having to face two home crowds this week. A complete bloody nightmare.

It's fine to debate the job that the managers are doing at the moment, totally fine and within your rights, all I know is we've had nothing but success with them up to now, he's took a bunch or half decent players up from league one and made them better players, they've developed themselves into good players, and formed a good team, we've gone from not being able to believe our luck in getting promoted and singing wilders name to doubting him now, and some wanting a change..

Tell you what, this is open to everybody who wants to criticise him right now.

Tell me who you'd get to replace him?

Simple question isn't it, but look over at s6 as chancers billions can only get has beens, nobodies and failures to manage them, do you want this future or the Burnley / Norwich style of taking the good times and bad times and sticking together... Coming back stronger and knocking about at the top end of the championship, play offs etc.. We'd be a killer championship team, some will leave, but we'll be competitive in that league without doubt.

So I don't want him out even if we go down, those that do and are actively persuing that, I hope you stick about to watch the shit you cause if you get what you want.. Because there isn't anybody as good as him out there that would come here, or can do it with our budget, nobody....

Be really careful what you wish for.. We won't save this season, its not a mickey mouse league and the teams who usually struggle are flying (west ham, soton - etc) why get rid of the manager who over achieved in the first place as soon as the reality bites that a team who had to sell Maguire, and DCL to keep afloat a few seasons ago for a couple of million, can't stay in the Premier league.. Where the billionaires play..

No one, I still want him to stay but I don't want him to keep doing the same things over and over, it's not working. I also don't want him to start giving crap interviews because he's always been good at that. I suppose when I've had shit day at work I wouldn't want a microphone in my face, but it's part of his job so he needs to crack on.

I think he needs to start sending Knill out post match. Win, lose or draw.

Before drawing any conclusions from your list I think you should factor in who made the appointments.

Been thinking about this, and some of the material posted on well renowned and well informed sources such as Wilder's Army Not For Snowflakes, and it appears the knives are well and truly out for Wilder, to the extent that some clearly would love to see us get hammered just so they can put forward their own agenda of hammering Wilder and the players.

I really feel for Wilder and the players at this moment in time. He hasn't become a bad manager overnight and these haven't become bad players overnight either.

We are struggling more than most without the fans in. We have struggled missing key players through injury and Henderson having gone back to Manchester United

Our biggest summer signing is a talented young player with bags of ability and potential but needs time to grow and develop, which we haven't got.

I can't even remember an injury effecting us as badly as we are missing JOC. He was the fulcrum and heartbeat of the team, executed his role to perfection and didn't look out of place in the PL. He is very, very hard to replace.

After everything Wilder has done for us since 2016, we deserve to back him, allow him to make his own decisions and arrest the slide, and if we go down, we go down with him as we will come back up with him.

I think it's a bit unfair to depict all of the fans that think Wilder's time might be up as "having the knives out" or of maybe forgetting everything he's done for us, or even as thinking he's become a bad manager overnight.

I'm none of those things.

The reality for me is that I think he looks defeated, completely out of ideas. That his confidence in his own ability is completely knocked. I don't think he's a busted flush, far from it, but he looks like someone that needs a little break from the game.

One of my main reasons for really liking Wilder (particularly post-Adkins) was his ability to call things as he saw them and it usually alignied with the views of the fans. Straight talking, no nonsense...
Now when I listen to him, he sounds completely delusional, stubborn & at times a little unprofessional.
He goes on about his precious system and buying players to fit it, but it's astounding to me that he can't see that it no longer works. The players have no idea what they're doing. We look completely disjointed and unable to get a foothold.

I also think this is rubbing off on the players and I can see that we're getting progressively worse.

Unbelievably, it already looks too late for us to survive this season. So I don't think sacking him can "save our season."

However, I also don't subscribe to the theory that we should just stick with Wilder no matter what. That he's definitely the best man for next seasons promotion push, regardless of what happens this season.

If we continue on our current trajectory (& I'm talking about performances now, as the results can't get any worse) then I don't think we can just stand by him. We're being embarrassed in matches. Unable to string a few passes together. We're not getting hammered on the scorecards most weeks because we're literally just playing at damage limitation, unadventurous, poor.

Behind the scenes that won't be doing any of the lads any good and I don't think you can just flick a switch and expect everything to be better in the Championship.

Chabuddy G made the case for Eddie Howe. Quite honestly, if we could get someone of that caliber then I would probably advise us to go for it at this stage.

Ye the warnock out brigade set us back about 10 years. Do they learn or reflect on that? Nope just scream for the manager to be sacked again if things don't go well for a while. Said the disrespect towards wilder is ridiculous earlier in thread and got questioned. Look at the last few posts. One actually mocking him stuttering when talking. So absolutely awful humans on this site.

I do think he’s listening to the fans too much and chopping and changing, he needs to decide his best 11 and give them 10 games, mine would be, Ramsdale Baldock Basham Egan Bryan Stevens Lunny Norwood Fleck McBurnie Brewster/Moose....

I am wondering, and I think someone else raised this last weekend, whether we need to be on the wrong end of a good thrashing for him to change. The narrative seems to revolve around us 'just losing' and only losing by a single goal when often this is because the other team knows we're unlikely to score and just takes their foot off the gas. I don't think any team has gone for us this season.

Same for me, just needs to address his mistakes, and fight till the end..

If you have the ability to keep the ball pose an attacking threat to the opposition, that in itself helps defence. I will never slag off our defenders, when they are asked to soak up so much pressure every game.
If we ask a few questions of the opposition, it will automatically discourage them from committing so many men forward.
Conceding so much possession doesn’t help our beleaguered defence one little bit.

Well said and something that should considered by those who are quick to point out even the slightest defensive miscalculation and heap abuse on the player involved .

The old adage - “ The best form of defence is attack “ was never more appropriate than for the situation we have got ourselves into this season by only paying lip service to the latter but expecting miracles from the former .
