Not getting any better is it? With any change in lineup, you'd imagine he's doing it to see marginal improvements. Today, outpassed, outmanoeuvred, outclassed and outthought by Southampton there were no improvements, anywhere. Three fucking nil. We only played this lot at St Mary's a few months ago and were bummed then by the same score by practically the same team.

Wilder is either tactically clueless or incredibly thick skinned. Again, 3-5-2 (or 5-3-2) and we fail to control any areas of the pitch. The left side is still horribly exposed, the central three working very hard to throw themselves in front of everything Southampton chucked at us but still they lack the conkers to defend consistently against a well-built attack and midfield who found it all to easy to suddenly go through the gears and punish our lack of team ethic. Stevens was incredibly poor today and his invisible link with Jags was never there. Fleck also seemed to be marking empty space at times as Walker-Peters, Walcott, Ward-Prowse and Armstrong made basic work of putting us on the back foot and getting round or past us. The central three were absolutely shocking, with nothing creative to show and when wilder changed it - 5-3-2 to 4-3-1-2 then 4-3-2-1 it made not a scintilla of difference. Fleck-Ampadu-Berge still didn't control and take the ball up the pitch and contributed to the disorganised, panicked stupidity shown out there. The front two or three were so badly starved of anything of a chance - so how are we supposed to score? We might as well have take McB and Sharp off and played with nine and just defended our way through 90 minutes. Defended badly as well.

As for Wilder's staring eleven - please Chris, change it now. Commentator mentioned he was at the Gillingham game when he went from the 4-4-2 to 3-5-2 and we remember it well and how it has served us. It is now over and if Wilder doesn't change it, so is he and so is Sheffield United as Premier League outfit. People need to be aware that any team manager from any division will now be watching how our famed system is now falling apart and how to beat us easily - even Bristol Rovers. Watch this space.

Wilder's changes were baffling. Why take Basham off? Why not Ampadu who was struggling at this level and put Bash into central midfield?

Ramsdale - 6/10: Thought he had a decent game and pulled off some good one-on-one stops, Schmiecel-style. Needs to work on his diving though and was hesitant for their first
Baldock - 5/10: One of our better players but was largely swamped out wide
Basham - 5/10: I think he's feeling the pain. What the fuck was he the sacrificial lamb? Basham has more footballing nous than anyone in midfield
Egan - 5/10: May have got half a point more, were it not for his hesitation for the first
Jagielka - 4/10: Time's up Jags
Stevens - 2/10: Completely outrun and skinned for much of the game. Seems to be going backwards, quickly in his form and output
Berge - 4/10: Tries, but fails. A poor game for him. He was completely outclassed in midfield by Romeou and those around him who basically passed him out of the game
Ampadu - 1/10: Really, really weak and lightweight. I have seen him play in three different positions and struggle to think what he is here for. He was meant to play pivot today and basically did fuck all of worth.
Fleck - 3/10: I watched Flecky marking empty space in the first half whilst behind him both W-P and Walcott were waiting to receive a Verstergaard missile and gang up on the hapless and helpless Stevens. In the second half he was just ineffectual
McBurnie - 1/10: Pub footballer. We did the 'let's bounce it of McBurnie's head six times in the first quarter of an hour, each time the ball turned over to them and they came back at us. Outside of chucking himself on the deck and getting injured, wat the fuck has he got to offer? Our signings have been disastrous and he is one of the main failures
Sharp 2/10: It's all over, Billy. Thanks mate, but the Premier League isn't your playing space any more. You've served the club well, but unfortunately the team doesn't play your game any more.

McGoldrick - 5/10: I still like Didsy, but he's in a place way above where he belongs now. Works hard as much as his legs will have him do - and gets some or other foot in or tackle. But he's not got the Premier League class or wisdom to make any real effect on the game. Odd flashes - Arsenal and Chelsea aside, he's basically a wilting rose amongst the thorns.
Brewster - 3/10: Poor kid
Mousett - 2/10: Touched the ball about three times, each time with zero effect. Another real waste of money.

We need to change the format. We played slightly better when we broke out of the 5-3-2 (okay, we conceded the two goals but ... ) but again we are simply not utilising anything anywhere to actually take firm control of the game and make the passes, moves and execution which gives us the goal chances and goals themselves which ill make any difference. Southampton were not under any pressure at all at any period - even just after half time - which had them committing to errors or not reading us. That period where we looked promising seemed to me like many teams do with us - let us push forward, mop up our piss weak advances until our heads drop then kill us off with simply better football. Front to back we look completely lost and bereft of ideas and beaten from the kick off. Either Wilder changes it or he's gone. We need to stop this sentimentality and face what is really happening now. And here's another thing that I think is affecting the situation -

If the unclean weren't doing so pleasingly shit at the moment and were looking like being promoted, would we have such a rosy, philosophical view of the failings and shortcomings and imminent relegation with what is looking like a record low number of points?

A lot of the players that were bought struggled for their previous clubs but Wilder was supposed to be the man to bring out their hidden talents. CWAK are struggling to get the best out of the new (last 2 years) players. Maybe a trip back to the Championship and get these young players the confidence and get their careers going. Premier League it would seem a tough place to turn average players into stars. Div 1 and Championship its possible.

stevens berge and ampadu were abysmal today especially enda got to be dropped now for osborn against man utd and theres absolutely no point playing billy if were only gonna have 30% possesion agree with everything pommpey says this system should have been ditched weeks ago where oh where has the real no fear lets go toe to toe with em chris wilder gone personally think hes a completely broken man and will resign very soon united and west brom are both down now just a question of who goes with us

Agree with it all. Not one of them would get a place in any other PL team. Some, Mousett, Ampadu and McBurnie in particular would struggle for a home in the Championship.

Ramsdale - 6/10: Thought he had a decent game and pulled off some good one-on-one stops, Schmiecel-style. Needs to work on his diving though and was hesitant for their first

Agree that Ramsdale pulled off 3 Schmeicarlesque really good saves.
The irony is they didn‘t matter because on all 3 occasions the linesman put his flag up for offside.

The other irony is that for all Southampton’s total dominance Rammers didn’t have that much to do.
I thought that Southampton found it so easy that they just went through the motions second half....and strolled it never getting out of 2nd gear.

We have no quality at all, I thought Brge and Egan is close to quality we can get but even they looked shit. Time to look abroad

You are wrong. Moose touched the ball with some effect he gave it away for their second or third, cant remember which now and I certainly dont want to rewind to check it out. Why oh WHY was McBurnie put out again for 2 minutes in 2nd half.?? Surely somebody in Dressing Room is capable of saying ..." He's not fit..."
It's pathetic.

Some food for thought there Pommps.

In reality, any side that has to start with Jags and Billy (as good as they’ve been in the past) is basically a poor:struggling Premiership team.

UTB !
I saw it as a desperate throw of the dice looking for some experienced leadership.
It failed miserably.

Again Pommps, hard to disagree. Apart from a period of possession first 10 or 15 of the second half, which achieved nothing, there was nothing to cheer or admire. Mrs Numpty wondered whether playing in front of a "crowd ", even a small opposing one, may have had a galvanizing effect, but clearly not. I don't have the answers, but clearly neither does Wilder or the players. I don't feel this is about JOC, but runs rather deeper. When we lost Coutts, there was something of a blip, but we did ok that season.
I've written off this season. I tend to be a positive person, but this year above all others I have more to worry about than why a bunch of extremely highly paid blokes can't produce even a fraction of the output they have produced for the past few years, any why the manager now appears to be either stunningly inept, stunningly stubborn, or both. I don't think sacking him and getting some jobsworth in will sort it, but that seems to be the way in football.
I do think Wilder and Knill are good tacticians, but are a lot less good at finding players who can play "their way ", or on today's performance, in any way at all.
I genuinely felt sorry for Ramsdale, who saved us from a 6 or 7-0, and who must wonder what he's done.

midfield has been a big problem for us and im afraid chris hasnt addressed it the 10m weve wasted on bogle and lowe should have gone on at least 1 more midfielder no creativity or individuality at all were down anyway go 433 for rest of season lets have a go owts better than watching this rubbish week in week out its depressing and heartbreaking utb fto

Pommp’s summaries are invariably a tad on the harsh side but this one is spot on.

In fairness, there has been little to be encouraging about this season. We've lost eleven out of twelve and the only point we salvaged was from a dubious spot kick given under VAR. The goals we have only just managed to score have been quickly and effectively answered and we have not shown anything like productivity with regard defending, imposing and attacking.

In short, we are now back with a Wier team

pommpey totally unrelated to your take, but you don't do PM's. You mentioned World at war in the shout box a few weeks ago. I'd never seen it but knew it was on UKTV, and since then I've watched the whole thing.

It was fantastic, so thanks for making me aware of it. 👍

I'm starting to wonder if McCabe implanted some nanobots in Wilder and activated them when he lost the court case.

Agreed. I am on Episode Six. Watched it in the 70s with my dad, a WWII vet.

It has so much more meaning to it now.

That what I liked so much about it, it was filmed only 26 years after the war ended. Interviews with Hitlers staff, soldiers, pilots, Japanese ministers, the pilot that dropped the bomb on hiroshima. People who lived it, not just studied it. Really just superb and never seen anything like it.

I'm starting to wonder if McCabe implanted some nanobots in Wilder and activated them when he lost the court case.

That's another thing.

We don't have McCabe to blame for any of this. I would have expected the court case to have affected the team last season. It didn't. If anything, it seemed to give us more impetus.

What doesn't the prospect of being humiliatingly relegated on a shocking low points score, a sharp wage drop, unanswered transfer requests and time out of the global shop window that is the EPL spell out to this lot?

pommpey

Like pommpey says if it wasn't for the fact that the pigs are wallowing in deeper shit than us the fans would be up in arms. Luckily too that we can't attend just now or it would be shoes off in the car park. Fuck knows where last seasons team has gone but this showing was utterly abysmal and as bad as anything Adkins produced.
Something has to change and fast, it is now all about how we manage a promotion challenge next season, a start would be to better Derby's all time low points score however unlikely as it looks.

Hard to disagree with anything in this assesment, Pompey. Today, we had a combo of poor management and tactical decisions and players lacking belief, guile and fight. That midfield was absolutely awful and the three of them should give today's wage to the fans who are without a job right now thanks to lockdowns.

As soon as most of us saw the line up we knew what was coming. No pace, so the opposition could afford to come onto us at will and without fear of a counter. CW starting with Sharp and McB again (surely he could see that they dont match from last season) was p1ss poor. His persistance with a sussed system is p1ss poor and his post match interview was also p1ss poor.

I also dont like the losers mentality of 'oh well, at least in the championship there will be less queues and nobody dives (yeah ok)' The championship is going to be a harsh world shortly due to the economic fall out from COVID. I suspect a lot of fans dont realise that coming out of the PL, during the worst financial slump in history, is going to make for very unhappy times.
