Did anyone catch it on Radio Sheffield. It was akin to listening to the embarrassing Terry Robinson. He ummed and ahhed his way through it with some quite frankly bewiildering answers.

Seth Bennett asked him Birch if he thought Adams' playing style will be like that of the manager he sacked in August?

Birch then answered with: 'Which manager are you on about? we have had so many managers this season!'

Bennett then pressed him and said 'What style do you think he will play?'

Birch answered with something along the lines of: 'I don't know. I am not sure.' He blustered something about a winning style before the interview moved on. It is remarkable that playing style and approach to how the team would play was not even looked at in an interview when it has been said by Birch this was one of main reasons why Blackwell left the club in August.

He was then asked about backroom staff and if anyone would be joining Adams and Cork and said all the remaining backroom staff would be staying but did not indicate who these are (as outside of Mark Smith and Paul Crichton; I dont see any coaches until you get into the Academy at the club now Ellis and Carver have gone)? He seemed unsure whether Adams would bring others in but doubted it saying him and Cork was it as far as he was concerned.

There were other odd answers and strange comments. For instance it does see Adams says he was only approached a few days ago and it happened really quickly. Surely if he was such a unanimous choice as Birch says why was he not approached straight away or why did it take 3 weeks?

Yeah, weird one to be sure. Especially considering that he is the 'football man' brought in to lead the club in these times of crisis. At least McCabe used to waffle and bluster with confidence.

Heard Birch speak a few times & been shocked out how poorly he comes across. He appears to have contributed nothing to the club and certainly doesn't communicate well with the fans so it begs the question what are we paying him for?

Great post Deadbat, wish I'd heard it.

Sounds like Birchy. Utterly incapable of speaking with any authority on anything - basically because he quite clearly hasn't got any, certainly when it comes to appointing managers. Ok, he can sort out the brewery deals, get rid of a couple of non entity directors but in terms of a been a figurehead for the club and instilling confidence in us loyal fans - totally useless.

It just all seemed a bit bizarre that he had gone on for sometime when Blackwell left and Speed was brought in that the principal reason was the change of style/ethos. He talked about Pemberton, the academy and the football being played being the same from academy up the first team.

Then when rightly pressed by the media today he said he was not even sure what style the new manager would play and almost stated they (the media) would have to ask him (Adams)!

One of the first things you would speak about when hiring someone is how they would go about their job and surely playing style is a mjor part of any appointment of the new football manager yet Birch seems to have suddenbly gone from it being the priniple factgor to us changing manager in August to now not having a clue or seemingly caring about what the new man would do in terms of style of play/approach.

It was frightening to think this man is running things at the club currently.

Been an odd day when the only thing clear about this club is they just do not know what they are doing. Good luck Micky Adams I think you are going to need it.

No matter what the views on the new manager are, this is the most depressing thing about today. Confirmation that our leadership seems totally clueless about about the football side of things. Just when we get the message that we all should unite behind the team and all pull together, our Chief Executive can't make up his own mind about which direction. It says a lot that he was surprised by the question at least to the extent that he couldn't answer it. Just what did he fucking expect?

Doesn't really instill you with much confidence, does it?

Let's hope they play the winning style. All other styles are overated in my opinion.

Adams doesn't even know yet. When asked by Paul Walker, he stated that until he has assessed the squad and what they're capable of, he won't know what formation or style they are capable of playing.

He just said all that matters, is winning matches. And TBQFH, at the moment, i agree with him.

Historically, he does mix it up and has been successful. His win percentages are pretty good wherever he's been.

As long as we see less goals being conceded and more being scored, does it really matter at the moment. In the long term yes, but right now, i couldn't give a monkeys!

Only the terminally deluded would believe that Adams wasn't approached only a few days ago when the SOD situation broke down beyond repair.
We do have a few of the afflicted on this site and I doubt even Birchy's stumblings will shake them from the bizarre belief this was all part of a comprehensive masterplan, carefully thought-out, involving hundreds of hours of consideration, interviews with numerous candidates etc, etc.
Bless 'em all the same though. They ain't the smartest Blades but they're still Blades all the same.

I don't doubt that happened at all. However, we've got a set of demoralised players at our club.

Looking at both managers and their demeanour, who would you prefer to send into the dressing room to get them doing......i'd pick Adams everytime!

No problem with Adams, Soton.
Just do not appreciate the latest in a long line of mistruths, half-truths or perhaps better described simply as bollocks from the board.

Maybe Trev thought Bennett looked hungry, and was nervous for fear of being consumed by our globular local reporting hero..?

Seriously everyone...can we give the 'lets pick holes in everything that happens because it doesnt fit our narrow criteria of acceptable, (not that anyone really gives a fuck what we think anyway), to show what clever lads we are and how the club I'm supposed to support is really just the vehicle for expressing my inadequacies and frustrations in life' a bit of a rest.

You've had your say, your chance to predict doom and failure in ample measure, and you have. Now shut the fuck up for a bit. There's plenty of work for Adams and Cork to do here. How about giving them our support and see how it goes without waiting with beady eye and baited breath for the first set-back, so you can jump on here and make twenty posts to tell us all how you knew it was going to go wrong, and how things can only get worse..?

Absolutely, and Totally Agree.

Now is the time to get behind our new manager, and team, and SUPPORT the club.

I completely agree, but you do realise that with a few it's akin to trying to push water uphill, or for that truly impossible mission, get my wife off the phone in under half an hour?

Some just like to be miserable, and tell the whole world about it.

Well, this bit of the world doesn't really give a fuck anymore. Let them hate for hate's sake. Let them choke on their own bile.

I'm cheery. Fuck them if they're not.
