Mebbes JR has told SOD he's free to talk to us but our bunch of terry f'wits are busy searching through the Terry Robinson Guide to Football Directorship trying to work out what to do next.

Or maybe SOD isn't our first choice and never has been

Or we looked under all the beds in the hotel and we really haven't got any money.

Carver and Morgs it is then with Ellis as Asist Man.

John Ryan ,is it true he's that 'media friendly' he will be making the Queens speech this year ?

Total attention seeking prick ,O'Driscoll isn't quiet he just can't get a word in edgeways.

We don't need to approach Doncaster. Ryan has said we are free to talk to him as and when

We said no one had approached Speed and then he went. Don;t worry. It's all part of the big plan.

Are we just getting het up about the difference between 'Sean hasn't spoken to them' and 'they haven't made an official approach for him' ?

Plastered all over the net today "Ryan is confident he will stay", why say this if there's not a chance he'll leave ?

Has anyone considered the following scenario?....

SUFC have approached Donny and spoken to SOD. Both SUFC and John Ryan are unwilling to confirm that as they do not want to compromise SOD's current role and his integrity.

As soon as someone confirms SOD has travelled to BDTBL for talks, it opens up a whole can of worms for their supporters and ours. Some of their fans will slate him for even entertaining our approach and our fans will go mental if we speak to him but dont get him.

I get the impression that we've already had the meeting and both clubs would rather it be kept quiet. I tend to know bullshit when I smell it.

Far too sensible mate, boooooo! ;)

Struggle to see how John Ryan would be happy for talks to have taken place without a clear resolution before Jan 3.
Taking a step back from the situation, if SOD has had talks and there's no outcome before then there's going to be some integrity questions flying around.

He won't be happy but then again he has no control over it. As I said above, SO'D may have had talks, all Ryan is saying is that has been no approach, the two are completely different. If talks went well, then the approach could well be on it's way :)

It could also be that Ryan knows that SOD is going nowhere near us, but sees it as a great opportunity to reinforce his position as the Donny messiah by showing that he can face off against the big boys. It could backfire though - we could either call his bluff and speak to SOD and cough up the compo, or we could just say that we want another hoof-merchant and he's making it up.

I wish we'd just get on with it - yesterday it all seemed perfectly logical that there'd be no announcement until the New Year, SOD would resign either just before or just after the Donny game and all would be right in the world. In a quiet moment last night my cynical PR head was working out what I'd do if I was John Ryan and wanted to get some free publicity and figured that I'd do exactly what he is doing now.

He does have control over whether he allows SOD to be manager on Jan 3 in those circumstances.
If SOD is Donny's manager for that game, in fact if he's manager for the NY fixtures, it's unlikely he's coming to the Lane.
These things do not take that long.

I meant he had no control over initial talks. If SO'D is up for it then the real talks begin, how much and when, but yep, if it's clear he's on his way, there's no point whatsoever of him being involved with Donny over the Xmas period and you'd expect some news, even if it's 'he's going to Sheff U but on Jan 4th.' The likely postponements this weekend could be a blessing in disguise for certain parties.

Got to agree. Ryan has publically stated SOD can talk to us. Can't see us making an offical approach unless SOD is willing to come.

Unless I'm misunderstanding the rules, if United speak to SOD about becoming new manager that would constitute an official approach.

Its clearly not going to be SOD.

as previously said, we will go for the cheap option. Most likely carver.

If SOD is going to leave, Ryan must be wondering who he could replace him with.

We could put a word in for the legend that is Kevin Blackwell.

Ryan has publicly stated we can speak to him, SUFC contact SO'D (or his 'people'), talks take place. Talks go well, SUFC make an official approach to take him from Doncaster.

As I read it, people are misinterpreting Ryan's comments suggesting that we need to make an official approach just for talks which I don't think is the case. We already have permission from the Chairman, why would we need to make a further official approach ? Our initial intention to request permission to contact him would have been made in writing days ago, this does not constitute an official approach for the manager which is all Ryan is confirming, as I see it.

Never mind all that Fleety - I'm dying to know the odds, I believe we are update-free since 10.30, when Mickey Adams blew his nose....

Don't think we can have unofficial talks with SOD, surely.
If we talk to him it would have to be an official approach otherwise the rules wouldn't be worth owt.
Now, I recognise the rules are virtually worth nowt, but as they stand you would have to make an official approach to speak to a manager in the first place - not just if you fancied appointing him.

They're not unofficial, Ryan has already publicly stated that S'OD would be allowed to talk to us if he wished.

Helps when the Doncaster chairman has publically stated that his manager can talk to another club and that club is identified by him as SUFC.

By cheap you mean any person you don't want. No evidence that Carver or anyone else we might appoint is cheap. This is football we're talking about. No one is cheap. Not even the ball boys.
