At the Emirates this season (January) David Seaman was sat high above us and at the final whistle the Blades were giving him some friendly stick.

I think it was his daughter he was with was very proud to be wearing her Blades shirt.

Bruce Dern. He asked about us during an interview in the NME (New Musical Express) in the late 70's

Seamans partner is an ex Dancing on Ice skater and she is from Sheffield and a Blade

She is quite small and petite, so maybe?

Oh and she has a Blades shirt

Talking about Seaman and shirts (stop giggling at the back!): there's an interview in The Times today with him and Paul Peschisolido (both interviewed at the same time on a zoom call). He recalls that after that save he swapped shirts with Paddy as they were walking off the pitch. He hadn't realised how much of a momentous save it was, and had also forgotten is was his 1,000th appearance. He had to call Paddy begging for it back.

Yeah I read his daughter is a big Sheffield United fan she refuses to support Arsenal just because her Dad played for them ! :)

And she's quite a bit younger than Spunky.

Isn’t the kid called Pete from Emmerdale a fan? I once got stopped by some drunken man on the south stand who pointed out this blonde lad and said he was Pete from Emmerdale. Good ol’ Pete

I have been writing a quiz for some friends in Durham who are big Sunderland fans. I was trying to find a famous fan question for them, I found Peter O'Toole and Kate Aidy but thought our list of famous fans to be far more impressive. This is the list from wikipedia I wondered if anyone wanted to add to it. Their "boards" listed Sugar Ray Leonard as a fan but it turns out he likes Stoke so sometimes confusion exists as to who supports who. The one I envy is Fulham who have Margo Robbie as a fan.
Few tenuous ones in there.

Chloe Newsome. Steve . McDonalds first wife in Corrie. My mum used to teach her at Dobcroft.

James Slack, Theresa May's spokesperson when she was PM.

I saw an interview with Joe Cocker about 5 years ago. When asked if he had made millions he said something like " If I was that rich I would buy Sheffield United"

HBO's Fresh Prince reunion that is running, has jogged my memory that Geoffrey the butler (Joseph Marcell) is a Blade. A claim backed up by a random Watford forum!

Loved Geoffrey!

A famous Blades fan from the past , which will come as a surprise to many , was the author of 'Kes' Barry Hines .

He himself was a very talented footballer and I watched him play many times for South Yorkshire Schoolboys and he went on to represent England at this level .

We first met in the late '60's through a mutual friend and got on very well right from the start . This relationship was rekindled in the mid '90' when we would meet up every couple of weeks for an afternoon booze up . During these sessions , the two things he most wanted to talk about were shared experiences from growing up in a working class background and the Blades .

He told me how he first went to watch us in the early '70's and that , even though he was brought up as a Barnsley supporter , it was love at first sight for us . He absolutely worshipped TC and considered him to be one of the finest players he had ever seen along with the likes of Law , Best and Charlton .

A lovely bloke who didn't deserve the torment he suffered in his final years .
That is true, my dad & him were "besties" at school in Ecclesfield.

I remember an issue of the NME from the early 70s, with a photo of Joe Cocker wearing a Sheffield United jumper

I have that picture in my Joe Cocker scrapbook but given his somewhat confused state throughout much of the seventies, wondered whether it meant anything or was an unsolicited gift.

When his biography came out in the mid-90s, via the publisher, I wrote to JP Bean, the writer and Blade, to ask whether Joe was a fellow sufferer. I got a nice reply to say that indeed he was and that wherever he was in the world, Joe kept in touch with our results and when he was in Sheffield he made a trip to the club shop.

Lots of people are fans but don't follow the club on Twitter. I don't have a Twitter account, but think of myself as a Blades fan
Following the club on twitter isn’t necessary to be a fan of the club obviously. But if you have an active twitter, as he does, and you don’t follow the club, it suggests his affinity to the club is either historical, tenuous, or nonexistent.

Joseph Marcel (Geofrey in Fresh Prince) according to IMDB Attended the University of Sheffield in Yorkshire, England. So it is therefore likely that if he is a footy fan that he came to the lane. So it may be whilst he was here that he followed us. Whether he still does?

Did your dad play in Ecclesfield Grammar First Xl with Barry ?

That was a cracking team , 4 of whom including him formed the basis of S. Yks. Boys which was one of the top Schoolboy teams in the country at the time .

He did indeed, & was on Chesterfield's books as a youngster & doing well, but then he went & got my mum pregnant with me & under pressure from family had to seek better paid work elsewhere.

As you say , Isaw Joe shaw, Barry Hines was ,indeed, an outstanding footballer and a very good sprinter. I competed against him (I was at Woodhouse Grammar at the same time he was at Ecclesfield) in both Football and Athletics. One other outstanding player , for Ecclesfield, was a Roger Bamforth (or Bamford). Were you at Ecclesfield?
Barry went on to Loughborough at the same time as I did, therefore playing in the same teams as I did- thankfully. He was a very talented writer, as we all know. 'Kes' becoming a latter day classic.
He died in 2016 after suffering from Alzheimers for a long time.
