Ah I remember Toner but was surprised Latham missing.Blades 4 (Ringstead 3, Brook) Hull 1 Saturday 25th August 1951
Two weeks later, we beat Wendy 7-3 (Same line up apart from Latham instead of Toner)

Here is the photo the right way up.....
Clearly from the fifties, I can recognise Fred Furniss, Ted Burgin, Joe Shaw, Alf Ringstead and Jimmy Hagan.
You think that’s good recognising the players SuperBobbyHatton, I can tell you the bloke with the flat cap on in the crowd is Isaw JoeshawWow great info! Didn't think I would find out all the players, nevermind the match! Brilliant.
He's behind you!!, by 5 posts, specsavers this way.Reading this thread just made me realise that I haven't seen a post from Kentblade in a long time.
Always liked his posts and reflections as an older Blade.
He doesn't appear to be a member here anymore. Is he okay?

I think Alf Ringstead got 2 of the 7, wasn't his father a pro jockey?Ah I remember Toner but was surprised Latham missing.
I had forgotten Toner was there at that time but if I remember correctly as a centre half he had a habit of playing it around in defence when in those days a hefty clearance was the norm.
Now recall Jock Smith.
Beat Wednesday 7-3 what a game.

To be right, it’s difficult to post with your fingers crossed...Just did exactly the same thing when I re-read this thread, fingers crossed he’s just stopped posting.....

Hi there - thought you may like this one, a year later , some usual suspects but with Len Browning in centre forward spot, Colin Rawson , and Graham Shaw on back row. Not sure if thats Toner or Howard Johnson on back between Rawson and Burgin.?Blades 4 (Ringstead 3, Brook) Hull 1 Saturday 25th August 1951

Rings a bell, recon your spot on with your thought.I think Alf Ringstead got 2 of the 7, wasn't his father a pro jockey?
Not easy with your thumb in a splint either I betTo be right, it’s difficult to post with your fingers crossed...
It's HJ aka 'Tank'. Great photo but I'd put the date as 1953, some time Aug-Sept. Browning played his last league game Sept 26 '53. Also the sox are wrong for 1952.Hi there - thought you may like this one, a year later , some usual suspects but with Len Browning in centre forward spot, Colin Rawson , and Graham Shaw on back row. Howard Johnson. The match was the 1-0 win (Browning scored) against Arsenal on Monday August 24th 1953. Browning played only 4 more games for us after that before being diagnosed with TBHi there - thought you may like this one, a year later , some usual suspects but with Len Browning in centre forward spot, Colin Rawson , and Graham Shaw on back row. I agree,JS, I also liked Hawksworth on the other wing. They complimented each other, and in those days wingers were wingers in the true sense of the word. Those two used to put the fear of God into defences when on the rampage. Happy days. When I first read that it came as a big surprise but on reflection , I can understand his point .
I'd still go for Woody , but it's a close call .
You don't come round here very often do you?Wow great info! Didn't think I would find out all the players, nevermind the match! Brilliant.
I miss grafikhaus for his input on these occasions too.
Yes your right , shop got wrong date on it.!It's HJ aka 'Tank'. Great photo but I'd put the date as 1953, some time Aug-Sept. Browning played his last league game Sept 26 '53. Also the sox are wrong for 1952.

I was 11 at the time and it was still school summer holidays, afraid cannot remember if I went to this match.yes thats the one. v Arsenal won 1-0 pissed it down all night.
Yes you are correct about the weather. I am thinking that maybe it wasn't that match. It looks too nice a day/ or if it was early evening. There is only a smallish window, timewise, for that photo. Rawson's first game ( according to Clarebrough's book ) was Aug 22 and Browning's last appearance was Sept 26th so it was one of only 4 home games in that period. Couldn't have been Aug 29th cos Wragg scored 2 and he is not on photo.I was 11 at the time and it was still school summer holidays, afraid cannot remember if I went to this match.
Att. 50723. It was first one back in Div. One since 1948-49, but I did go to the one on the following Saturday V Blackpool.
It doesn't look wet on the photo and if it was raining I doubt there would have been a photo, though that doesn't mean it didn't rain later. Bet there were a lot who got wet with a crowd that size. No cover on Terrace, front BL end and old Kop didn't cover the area it did when it was pulled down.
