Does anyone actually think we will stay up?

I’m a miserable twat and I think we’ll go down. I said last season that before we can get back to the Lane to watch the Blades, we’d be in the Championship. It’s now based on our current form and also the historical ability of my beloved club to fail spectacularly when we’re in a good position.

We’re yet to get hammered & have had some tough games: Wolves, Arsenal, Liverpool & Man City. Villa only just beat us when we had 10 players for most of the match & we created enough chances against Leeds to win. Ok, Fulham was a let down & we may lose the next 2 as well though which would obviously heap more pressure on the West Brom game. Despite that & with the players still to return, we should have enough to stay up 👊

The table has literally taken shape at this point

And that shape is amorphous blob creature.

Top 1 and bottom 5 maybe, but the middle 14 could end up anywhere.

As for the question, it's highly probable if we don't change the way we play, or Fleck comes back inhabited by the spirit of Iniesta.

Defensively we're alright, not as good as last season, but far from bad, but the attacking responsibilities of the defence are no longer being taken care of, on the left obviously but even Bash seems cautious about running up the pitch. Missing a lot of determination, no-one forces errors from the opposition with a press, we're looser and we get to fewer second balls.

We haven't got a 10 so we'll have to play McGoldrick there, or a front three with Burke, Brewster and McBurnie and one drops.

We need to stay in touch and get to January and immediately get a LCB in at least.

Sadly I think we will be down with the trimmings.
Hopefully someone dredges this post up to make me look stupid later in the season.

Teams to play, number of matches, predicted points.
Liverpool-1-0
Everton-2-2
Wolves-1-0
Chelsea-2-0
Villa-1-3
Leicester-2-1
Spurs-2-1
Man City-1-0
Leeds-1-1
Southampton-2-1
Palace-2-2
Arsenal-1-1
W Ham-2-3
Newcastle-2-4
Man Utd-2-0
Brighton-2-3
West Brom-2-4
Fulham-1-1
Burnley-2-4

That gives us 31 pts = Relegation
We need to perform well above what we have produced so far to have any chance of survival. Just my opinion, what's yours.

How else would it take shape?

Metaphorically?
2 of the bottom 3 at this stage last season went down. I don’t understand what is so hard to fathom about the fact that we are most certainly in a relegation battle, whether you like it, don’t like it, or choose to accept it.

At the moment, it's 50/50 for me.

We are still very early in the season however, woefully short of confidence, seemingly disproportionately affected by the lack of crowds, hampered by injuries and last years better players severely lacking form.

Based on where we are at the moment if we stay up, it will be because 3 teams have been worse than us - not because we're playing like a top flight team.

As we limp on at the moment, the pressure is only going to crank up. The next 3 games are so crucial, and think we need 4 points at the absolute minimum with a first win VITAL, with West Brom being must win.

That being said Reasons to believe...

We aren't adrift, Fulham, West Brom and Burnley are looking equally bad
Fleck & Mousset hopefully back before Christmas.
Some really tough fixtures out of the way.
Defensive record still pretty good for a team on 1 point after 7 games.
Transfer window only 8 weeks away!
Can't really get any worse!
I think that I’m broadly in the same camp. I do think we’ve had an unfortunate mix of low confidence and tough fixtures for the most part. I still think one good result could spark a run. I am also buoyed a little by the fact that our survival is more likely to depend on us winning against teams in the bottom half, rather than the top, and we’ve still to play most of these sides.

I still think we will stay up, but that view might shift if we don’t start winning against teams we need to win against. Liverpool and Man City aren’t those, so I don’t feel any more uneasy than I was coming out of the Fulham game. In fact I had expected following that game for us to be more adrift right now than we actually are...

People saying it’s melodramatic and OTT really ought to have a think, why is it? Or are you just saying it’s dramatic because you don’t like facing up to the reality of the situation?
Think he's just saying you're melodramatic and Ott

And after 6 matches last season Wolves were 19th and winless.

They didn't wave the white flag and neither should we.

Difficult to make a case at present.

We've conceded a number of goals that should have been comfortably defended and are impotent in attack. Add to that that imho you're starting to see signs of the confidence waning and heads dropping a little.

Wilder is not his usual self which is partly understandable but not conducive to recreating the attitude of this time last year.

The main hope I have at present is that West Brom, Fulham, and Burnley will continue to be equally as shit and come the second half of the season with players back and others bedded in, we'll have enough to finish ahead of them.

I said 17th would be good finish in the summer and it would.

The same squad that took us to a 9th place finish last season.

Minus Henderson and O'Connell.
Minus 2 huge key players 😂

We were never going to be as good defensively this season and our scoring record last season was that of relegation fodder

We need to get on a run of wins very soon if we are to do so. The body language of the players and the manager concerns me though, Wilder is in awe of the opposition all the time and is like what can we do? And the players have lost that energy and self belief maybe that's coming from Wilder? Since he publically destroyed them after the Leicester match we haven't won a game!!

They need a piss up to clear the air.

But we've also got Berge who we didn't have for the first half of last season and he's improving match by match.

And Burke and Brewster upfront.

I'm massively confident still.

Burke whos lost every premier league game he’s started in and Brewster who’s played 180 mins as a PL player
