Rodwell.

It’s staggering that we haven’t got room for all 22 of the outfield players in the squad in the 16 places available to them in the matchday squad.

I mean is it a maths thing? Does 22 into 16 not go or something? Shouldn’t Wilder be able to make it work? Is Lys Mousset somehow responsible? Would bringing Luke Freeman back make it easier to fit 23 into 16?

Man #1, possibly made out of straw: embarrassing from United signing this guy, what a waste of a signing

Man #2, also possibly made out of straw: why aren't we getting daily updates on the whereabouts of this guy and why isn't he playing

Man #3, made out of lead: Yet another gamble from Wilder which hasn't paid off. When are we going to start talking about his transfer record?

If you're talking about transfer record I'm not sure Rodwell is the right place to start. This signing is a gamble in the same way me owning a pair of novelty socks is a gamble. I might need them if all my other socks mysteriously catch fire but probably they'll just sit in my drawer until I eventually throw them away.

Man #4, ,made out of plastic straw: "I've been a long term Blade since late 2019 and I've got the proper fake shirt and join in all the Facebook stuff an that, innit. Not sure who this Tintin is (or Captain Scarlet) but that Wilder has to go. We don't make enough wins or do enough goals.

Something tells me the post wasn't altogether serious.

Maybe, but I had my sock analogy all ready to go
Did you know?

Russian troops do not wear socks. Instead, they use a square of material which they wrap around the foot and ankle.

You have to why did we give him a contract the same can be said for jags too

Obviously my "man made of lead / lead head" joke wasn't good enough as it's been completely misunderstood by several people. If it was responsible for that novelty sock joke, I'll take that.

I believe up to and including the Napoleonic wars the British army also wore foot wraps. when this ended I have no idea but I don't see it returning in my life time... ;)

......thay have modernised! The troops are now issued socks to wear......

We aren't gambling on Rodwell turning into a world beater, we are gambling on him being cover. He is succeeding.
But is he cover like Robinson is cover and when we actually need cover we will try and sign another right sided centre back...ie he is succeeding until we need him on the pitch....just asking

Not knocking Wilders record but we have made some slightly puzzling acquisitions

Yes but to be fair some of them have done sterling work for us on our travel to where we are now ......

The higher we climb the bigger the risk will be on any signing he makes.... 👍

We don't really know. In the few games he has played, he's been alreyt.

I think the only reason we are after more cover at LCB is the length of O'Connell's injury. Had Robinson been out for the season, I assume we'd have tried the same. If anyone thinks we could have done better than Robinson for 500k and whatever low wage he is on, I'd love to know who.

Surely it's a case of when and why? Rodwell was bought as cover and, if he impressed, a possible starter.

Seems a long time ago, and since then we've bought other players with more chance of starting a game. I would imagine that when Chris signed Rodwell he made it clear that his chances of securing a first team place were slim, but with the proviso that it could happen if Rodwell impressed him. I liken it to Ben Osborn's initial run in the first team - he looked good and received many plaudits for his work ethic, but since then it's become clear that a great work ethic alone is never going to be enough.

Any team needs quality in all positions, and might I suggest that we have players who might provide the quality I've described (Lowe, Bogle, and obviously, JOC) as and when they're chosen to play. We have injuries to players who are blessed with the quality we'll need to improve, but it's a way off from having all of the injured players available for selection.......and we've got to give Brewster time to bed in, as well as finding the right player to play alongside him. I know quite a few on here have faith in Moose but he's a mystery that needs the type of mentoring that can get the player to liven himself up and bring consistency to his game.

What is the deal with this guy?
Can we not get him back to his best or something?
Or did he blossom and Peak too early? He's not even 30.
