Tier 1 article. Fee said to be £18m guaranteed, with the other £5.5m add-ons. No fee on the buyback amount but described as a fair amount if his development continues. Also:

Brewster also held talks with Crystal Palace over a possible return to London but was enthused about moving to Sheffield United after a passionate pitch from their manager Chris Wilder, who has long since admired him.

Great article.👍

"One striker, just 15 but with pace to burn, caught his eye with a lively 10-minute debut as a late substitute. Academy staff had been so keen for Klopp to see Rhian Brewster in action he had been put on the bench for the under-18s after playing 50 minutes on the back pitch for the under-16s the same morning.

It did the trick. Klopp was soon on board with the belief among the academy coaches that Liverpool had one of the most exciting English players of his generation on their hands. Brewster was a star in the making and his reputation continued to grow."

Most of the comments on The Athletic article are similar to those seen on Twitter etc... Liverpool fans didn't want to sell him, wanted him to grow into their team etc.

Took its time but we got there in the end.
We need to thank HRH and the board for this signing. It can't have been easy to find the funds for this in the current climate.

This also brings out average age down more again.
Anyone know the average age of our squad now?
Surely it's the lowest since CW took over?

Hey, what we need right now this season is some one to put that ball in the back of the net and get this team rolling again.
If he can do that and help us climb the table to safety for another season, I'm willing to let next season and the one after that take care of it's self...

For now...... ;)

Sorry, this has nothing to do with the buyback arrangement, but it just occurred to me that we can now field a team with six players all having a surname beginning with B: Baldock, Basham, Berge, Bogle, Burke and Brewster.

Has this ever happened before...with any letter of the alphabet, let alone B? Over to you, Silent...

I apologise if it has already been said somewhere in this massive thread, but in the interest of reaching 400 pages...
We had at least eight Fuckwits under Adkins.

396 pages ! It’s been quite a rollercoaster but it was worth it . Roll on tomorrow .

Well I don't know about that, but I would think this has got to be the strongest B team we've ever had........ :tumbleweed:

So palace wasn't his preferred destination then

Could this be a sign it's time for Kean Bryan for LCB...

Christ, I hope not!

I would love to think that it means that if we decide to sell him in the first 3 years that we have to give Liverpool first refusal at £40m. If they don't want him and we sell to someone else they take 15%.
If that's the case I think it's a good deal
isn't it also 15% of any profit made on the deal?

Just realised. If Folarin Balogun doesn't sign a new Arsenal contract or sign for anyone else we could pick him up for free in the summer (or even a pre contract agreement in January). That would give is another future star striker for peanuts

Free transfers rarely work like that.
You can bet his agent will be saying “his normal transfer value would be 10 milion”....so paying him £50K a week is only 2.5 mill a year...so a 4 year contract costs 10 million....which would bust our wage structure. Also other clubs will know all about him....suspect he’ll receive a good offer from a London or south coast club.

These type of comments make no sense.

Klopp obviously thinks Brewster has zero chance of breaking into the first tam over the next year or 2.
He desperately needs games in the PL to develop. So a loan to a club where he is gauranteed to get games is the best choice.

This transfer with the 3 year buy back option basically turns it into a 3 year loan.
Very much doubt LFC would be able to activate anything before the 3 years are up and you can bet there would need to reviews and notice periods]
so United know well in advance they would be losing him....enabling us to bring in a replacement.

Its a very good deal for us because the striker situation makes or breaks this season...also for every year we stay in the PL the whole club develops and grows but it’s an even better deal for Liverpool....they can’t lose either way.
