Flag Clarification

The problem with these things is that often it's not H&S law, just someone's interpretation. I'm sure its done with the best of intentions (i.e. to avoid death or injury), but often the end result just makes a mockery of the health & safety agenda and people ignore the important stuff because they're fed up of the whole thing.

As I always say, why let facts get in the way of a good story.

To quote Stewart Lee, it's political correctness gone mad. :)

So can anyone confirm that this thread is a wind up? All the Flag day, fire certificate and the fact that people were that worried about the risk in the first place is absolutely hilarious.

I never knew that flags were banned so its all news to me.

Does anyone know if the replica shirts (sale now on) are also fire safety certified?

Don't get me wrong, I applaud the club for trying to do as much as possible to both stay within the rules and also not be seen as killjoys, but this is all too daft!

Its almost as daft as airport security for innocent passengers on the slimmest of chances that you could be a suicide bomber, when all along the unaccompanied cargo wasn't being checked.

Next thing they'll be unscrewing and removing the caps of the coke bottles ... oh wait a minute they already do that!

Are the matchday programmes tested for fire proofness? People's clothes? The Bovril cups? Betting slips?

If the answer is no, then what plausable reason is there to suggest that Flags have to be?

I've had first hand experience of Sheffield's 'Safety Advisory Group'. I'll just say that this doesnt suprise me.

I'd personally think that your clothes are more likely to go on fire than a flag.... should we have our clothes tested for fire regulations?

I know it's not the club, but the whole idea is absolutely madness.

Quite possibly the most salient point I've heard with regard to H & S on this thread.

"Safety Advisory Group", FFS and people say that there is no waste to trim in the public sector...

I think all spectators should be forced to wear fireproof underwear, like F1 drivers.

You know it makes sense....

A bit tricky this.

I've cut the corner off all our bedsheets and, sadly, they all failed the test. Tried the duvet (and cover) but that just helped burn the shed down (obvioulsy I'm now in the market for a new shed if anyone has any expertise in this area).
However, I've managed to craft a nifty 8' by 6' out of stainless steel plate. Passes the test no sweat. Just need half a dozen helpers and a flat bed lorry to get me down there.
Any offers?

Manual offloading of an 8' x 6'?? Good luck with that.

I hope they are checking what each flag may have been washed in. I'm suffering an allergy at the moment linked, possibly, to soap powder.

If one of the said flags "brushes" against me and causes the red blotches i get at the moment will I be able to sue?

And who against?

United? And then they may be able to sue the Health and Safety for not mentioning such a risk.

PS....I get a twitch if I have a pie.......Do they contain real meat?

From the Star:
Although the call for Bramall Lane to be decorated with flags fell largely on deaf ears, Speed's charges were not short of vocal backing when they triumphed 3-2 in front of a live television audience.

Whilst I like the fact that the club are listening, I think they listen to those with few decent ideas - Singing Section? Dale Cavese? Flag Burning? GCB words on the screen? Peters Pies? Tom Hark? All of these have tried and failed. I don't really want to dwell on this as I think the club are trying to restablish their links with fans. But seriously United, lets stop all this shite and get back to the traditions that brought so many of us to the lane in the first place.

Tom Hark, for example, should've been retired after the play off season in 2003, it would then have been remembered so fondly by Blades. Now, 7 years on its a pain in the arse

1. For the Palace game, everyone who has a flag can take it to BDTBL to get it fire safety tested (free), if it passes it is allowed in. (testing involves cutting a small piece of the flag off & seeing if it burns)

No flag should be allowed in on that, I'll get anything to burn.
