Berge was a great signing at the time. Right age, full international, CL experience. Unfortunately we failed to hit the ground running after the restart.
Quality forwards cost money - money we don't have. No way can we afford Ings. Or Watkins. Even Brewster seems just out of reach.

I honestly think Ampadu, Bogle and Lowe will all improve the chance creation in the side. I can understand Wilders caution in not starting them too quickly, but they have all looked comfortable on the ball as soon as they start.
Maybe because they are all quite young, they have no fear and are very confident to come into such an attack minded side.

Leeds
Fulham
West Brom
Villa
Southampton
Palace
Newcastle
West Ham
Burnley

We will still pick up results against other teams, because that’s the nature of the game.
This is my opinion, before any strikers join during this window.

The likes of Fleck and Norwood did not become bad players overnight. They will bounce back.

When CW was asked on RS about his striker-search tonight , I got the distinct impression that he's frustrated not just with the marketplace but also with the Club , from his "I've told the board" comment.
Hopefully the Club will realise we are staring down the barrel of relegation if we don't get a striker & a creative midfielder (or 2 strikers) in soon.

Southampton are trying and failing at a new system. Defence wise they are terrible, attack they are relying for Ings if he gets injured they are buggered. Che Adams gets into the positions but can't buy a goal.

West Ham are definitely a candidate so are Burnley, Fulham West Brom and Vila too. I think there are teams that are worst than us but we need to keep our heads up. In May if at least half of them are below us we have done all right.

If Burnley don't sign someone to even fill out their bench then they may well be in trouble over a season.

I don't think we have been terrible compared to some of the other games I've seen. We want more, sure we do - and so will Wilder but last season Egan doesnt get sent off, Lunny scores that pen and also against Leeds. We're then sat on a minimum of 2 points without a crisis. The fine margins haven't fallen for us and with the fixtures we may struggle for a bit longer but I wouldn't want anyone else to dig us out of the hole than who we currently have.

Although someone who scores / creates more 1/2 chances would be lovely.

It looks to me that Fulham and West Brom are pretty much nailed on. Sadly at the minute it looks like it is between Burnley and us for the last place. History tells us that you cannot rule out West Ham and Newcastle. Aston Villa and Leeds looked bang average to me, and I could also see Southampton or Palace struggling if they get injuries to key players.
So I've narrowed it down to about 8 teams.

Our defence is fine. We won't beat last season but by the looks of it there aren't many that are clearly better and plenty look worse, I've just seen the Champions gift an absolute comedy goal to Arsenal for example and everyone's letting 3s and 4s in.

Just need that top of the pitch investment.

What has made it a shade more difficult is the Fulham performance tonight.
Wouldn't be surprised if Benteke heads that way before 5th October.

As long as SUFC finish top of the bottom four mini league, that's all that matters.

Collect points from those clubs in the same predicament and hope that you can add points from matches that you were
expected to claim nothing. There will be surprises, plenty of time left, so don't be panicking.

A lot of what we produced yesterday, between the boxes, was much more like us.

As the gaffer keeps emphasising, however, games are won in the two boxes ... and in one of those we are undeniably the worst side in the division at present.

Fulham and WBA will be in trouble because they appear to be hopeless at defending. Even these 2 sides look more potent attacking sides than us, though. In common with every other team in the division, they have players in midfield and up front who affect games; ones who can win their team a match with a bit of individual brilliance. Even at this distance, it is surely inevitable that Mitrovic will be there to punish the defensive slip that we have in every match, in a game we are expecting to win.

We don't have a player who can change a game and arguably haven't had it since Duffy was dispensed with. Even Wilder has said in interview that 'we don't have anybody who can win us a game by hitting one in from 25 yards' and that, essentially, we can only win through the team performing to a man.

Subject to finding a striker or midfielder with the x-factor before the window closes, therefore, I think that we're kidding ourselves if we think that teams like Villa, West Ham, Southampton, Newcastle, and Palace are worse than us. However, poor all of these sides can look on a given day, they all have multiple attacking players who affect and can win them points or games, even when the team hasn't necessarily performed.

By contrast, we have started the season relying on John Lundstram and, to be fair, I can perfectly understand why Chris continues to play him. He knows better than anyone that he has a squad of players that seems allergic to shooting and scoring. His only 2 remotely regular sources of goals and assists last season were Mousset and Lundstram, and he has lost one of them.

That has left Lunny as his best hope, hence why we end up with the farce of him taking a penalty when not many fans would have expected him to be anywhere near the head of the queue.

Honestly, we need to stop panicking and expectations reigned in. Last season was beyond over achieving and still feels like a dream.
With the budget we have our sole aim has to be to avoid relegation. If that means we get 36 points and stay up on goal difference then so be it. It would have to be judged as a successful season in my opinion.
I think you’ve got 7 or 8 teams in the league who are dead certs to finish in the top 8. Then depending on a whole host of factors any of the other 12 clubs are capable of going down. It’s almost 2 leagues. I think WBA and Fulham look certain for the drop and then it’ll be a battle amongst a whole host of clubs and that includes ourselves. I think the most likely clubs competing for the last relegation place will be us, Burnley, West Ham, Brighton and maybe Southampton (but I doubt it).
it’s a lottery and almost dependant on a massive amount of luck with injuries and crucial decisions at key moments.
Stop panicking, a season is 38 games not 3! Think we will be reyt.
