Healey, O'Connor and no-one

Unless you tell me otherwise, Celtic are still playing in the SPL and not the Championship.
Doncaster and Barnsley are on our doorstep, don't have loads more points than us and have both acquired strikers to strengthen.
Both have also scored more than 9 goals in 14 games.

Im sure the Celtic team is majority now playing for middlesborough and there useless, Jordan Stewart would look good in Scotland

You lot moan about Len not seeing the wider picture, on the other hand the more enlightened of us shall we say in terms of all things SUFC finances can clearly see he is very much talking sensibly, yet again, about the wider picture. Namely, SUFC are now struggling to compete with Donny and Barnsley - totally irrelevant if personal preference means you don't like these particluar players. If Barnsley and Donny sign players then obviously it should be of no concern to SUFC because if we are in the same league as them we should be competing for players of a far higher calibre than they are. Unfortunately however McCabe is desperately struggling to keep everything going in this deep recession and we have no centre-backs, no strikers worthy of the name and people talk about Reid as if he is a permanent signing we should build our team around.
Apart from the fact we signed a player last week who has played regularly at a higher level than either of the two players in question.
Yes I'm sure we do need another forward but I we all know this is being looked at.
This week we have the added fun of having to replace Morgan as well, which as we only have so much money to spend on wages might mean our immediate focus is elsewhere.
The biggest dysfunctional area of the team so far this season has been creativity in the midfield with us creating hardly any chances for our forwards. Reids signing is with the intention of resolving it, and was, at least to my mind, more pressing than buying a forward.

Personally I wouldn't of been particularly happy with either of these forwards as I think there are better options out there.

Are we still paying for Walton as well?

Which, it could be argued, is a nice, easy way of ducking the whole issue of getting players in.

Just to re-cap. Evans, Ward, Bogdanovitch. Cresswell. It's serious.

Reid is a great signing but other than obtaining a few more points a 30 day loan does not solve the problem in the slightest and I'm sure there are better options than Healy and O'Connor.

I think that in relative terms the signings made by Donny and Barnsley show that there finances are healthy and that they have a balanced squad which does not necessitate a depserate scramble for loan players. They suffer an injury and simply sign a replacement on a short-term basis.

We need loan players to keep us up - big difference for me.

I suppose it's about opinion and what you think of those players. But I think given the correct service at least 3 of those are good enough at this level to get us into mid table.
The issue for me has been the serious lack of service and final balls.

You'd be forgiven for thinking the poor loves had not seen the ball all season and there was an invisible wall between them and the midfield.
You're kidding yourself if you really think it's all been about the midfield.
Strikers can make chances for themselves, can make intelligent runs, can hold the ball up, can bring others into play.
Been very, very little of that this season.

When you play 4-3-3 the lone central striker is very much reliant on decent service from midfield and outwide. We've hardly been creating chance after chance and they've been missing them.

That'll be where we are missing Henderson then

Both past it. We need a up and coming striker from one of the big four if any on loan. Were lacking the pace up top.

I know this thread is supposed to be about us signing nobody whilst our neighbours sign world class strikers (tongue firmly in cheek).

However, I feel like I've been watching a completely different United team in recent weeks to the rest of you. My recent analysis of games at BDTBL would be that we have created quite a lot more chances than our opposition but unlike them have failed to convert them (I include Scunthorpe in that as well), I can't remember Coventry having more than 2 shots on target, but they scored one, which is the critical stat.

Now I don't have any coaching badges and haven't played football above Sunday League standard, but surely not converting chances is a problem with the strikers, not the midfield!

^^^^Well said^^^^

But,

We're losing a lot of games and it's getting beyond a joke now. Even for me - The eternal optimist!

I'm with you here, but apparently I don't know what i'm talking about either.

I agree. Believe it or not I am enjoying watching us play at the moment (at home - not Donny I hasten to add). Missing chances is not always unfortunate obviously and we have major weaknesses throughout the side but Speedo is the man for me working with a ridiculously unbalanced squad and for all the problems I think we have deserved more than 0-1 losses to Cov and Watford. I'm pretty confident we'll finish 4th bottom, just!

Have I got this this right: Donny sign a month-long loan = stengthen; United sign a month-long loan = everything has gone tits up.

You forgot to add Barnsley have signed an unfit months long loan and strengthened !

How long did Reid play in his first game?
It's amusing to see one or two of the usual suspects coming out of their bunker now they think it's safe after last week - though not you Alien as I think I recall you saying it wasn't that bad.
We've even got Bob I think suggesting that he still rates our million pound a goal man.
Between £4m and £5m spent on Chedwyn so far. And we can't afford to get a loan striker in or a defender.
Good job we're being so well run.

Could you give me the link to where it says we can't afford a loan striker or defender as I appear to have missed it. But then again that's not suprising in these rose tinted specs ;-)

I like your tongue in cheek style Alien, I'm thinking mebbes your approval of last week's performance was just a pisstake n'all.

No seriously send me the link mate I missed it.
I would hate to think you were making it up,because as I've learned over the years that's not your style

What funny about it? How was I unsafe last week?

Personally I didn't go to the game, therefore I can't really comment on it can I?

For the record I've actually posted everyday apart from Tuesday so I don't know where that comment comes from?

Wow Ched is getting expensive, upto £6 Million now is it Len? You've nothing to back this up though obviously.

You've missed more than that if you haven't noticed how skint we are.
Have you been asleep for several months?

I would just like to know where that "fact" came from and asked for the link to it. Is it really such a hard thing to post a link on here ... or did you make it up ?
Come on Len stop being a little tease

You're right, it's because we're looking for the right players, not just signing anyone, not relying on loanings, we can still afford de Laet after signing Reid but we're over stocked with fit defenders.
You're not Geoff Hulley's twin brother are you?
(Anyone who wants a chuckle and hasn't heard it should listen to Radio Sheffield's interview with Mr Hulley who was apparently lost in France and didn't appear to know what day it was. Sad it was conducted by a scab but there you go.)

Come on, how much other stuff have you assumed or made up over the years.
And to think I have taken everything you have posted over the years as gospel ;-)
P.S. You'll be pleased to know I don't have a twin brother and for the record (no pun intended) it was Bonnie Tyler who was lost in France 1977 I think

How long did Reid play in his first game?

Since he wasn't signed until the Friday and hadn't trained with the Blades, it is entirely understandable that Speed would not ask him to play 90 minutes.

Tomorrow should be different, although there were rumours earlier in the week that he'd been injured in training..

Yup, I've been making it all up and everything the club has said since May has come to pass.
When Nozza was playing left back last week it was because we could afford another defender on loan but just knew Nozza was really a left back all along.

I think it's pretty clear who's on track Alien.
But if you wish to believe money is not the reason why Nozza's playing left back, we can't strengthen up front and we've barely got a full team this season, knock thi' sen out.

One of the championship's highest paid players. Let's see, probably around £20,000 a week, been with us for nearly 18 months, transfer fee paid so far around £2.5m but mebbes nearer to the £3m now.
I'm sure you can do the maths.

And you don't think maybe the new manager is waiting to see if the current squad can adapt to new ways before rushing out and spending do you.
You know you take over a new business give it and the staff a few months to see what they can do before you tear it apart.
But then again i'm still waiting for the link to my earlier question and it will never be forthcoming as it doesn't exist.
Is this the season Wednesday leave us standing in their wake or is that another thing you seem to get wrong time and time again
You're not Nick Cleggs twin brother are you as he appears lost in Sheffield and doesn't appear to know what day it is either
I really have to go now as i'm bored with this.
But Len it really isn't as bad as you think ..... it's worse ;-)
