Yeah but McBurnie was last seasons gamble, and Ramsdale this one.

How many £20m gambles can we make each year?

I don't think either were gambles to be honest, I'm just playing devils advocate.
Every signing we make will be a gamble/risk. We are not in a position to sign the finished article. What do you think makes Brewster a riskier signing than Mcburnie?

I dont.
I mainly mean we've had a big signing this season already.

That's fair enough. I just find it slightly odd that we would have no qualms paying whatever Bournemouth wanted for Ramsdale but we are baulking at the thought of paying 18m for Brewster structured whichever way we want. I am not criticising the boards spending though whatsoever because they certainly have backed us

If we can structure it any way we want can we pay one pound a week? ⚔️

Palace attack doing well again (so far) with Batshuayi and Benteke sat on the bench.

If it were a loan then fine. £20m is a big gamble on a young player who hasn't proved himself in the PL. The buy back clause makes this a poor deal in my opinion as it loads all the risk onto us with potential scant reward. If we have £20m to spend on a striker I think I'd look elsewhere.
If the price is £18m as some reports suggest it is an eye watering price for a lad who has played 6 month of championship football and very little else. If we were to pay that price it has to be job done with no buy back clause or any other silly add ons. If it is such a good deal why are Villa not on the phone to Liverpool? Why has the Palace owner had a hissie fit with Sky reporting they were ready to pay up to £25m was that leaked to the press by Liverpool to bump the price up? We seem to be the only club with a serious interest and if reports are correct he wants to come here maybe it has been Liverpool all along who have been stalling for a better price. McBurnie and Maupay went for a similar price last summer both scored plenty of goals in the Championship over a few seasons not just over six months. Just because Villa paid way over the odds for Watkins it don't make a lad with very little first team experience anywhere worth what Liverpool are asking. He is only worth what someone is willing to pay so far no club is willing to pay over £20m for his services.

I honestly think his wage demands are forcing the price up-he’s aparently pretty reasonable wage wise which means Liverpool think they can squeeze more out of the fee

I think very few people genuinely believe we paid that for Ramsdale. Also he had played a full season at our level for side with a much poorer defence.

Difference to Mcburnie and Maupay is that Brewster would be coming from one of the best teams in the world rather than a Championship side. He’s also a few years younger and English which adds some value. Not to forget he was the standout player when England won the U17 world cup, in a squad with Foden and Sancho.

He might not be the answer or the perfect signing for us, but he’s the kind we have to be looking at. Liverpool seem to care about this lads progression a bit more than the likes of Solanke as well, which is a decent sign.

Or he could be the next Di Girolama or whatever his name was who was the next big Italian star wanted by Juventus, put it this way John Lundstam represented England at under 17, 18 and 19 levels

True, but Brewster has at least proved he can do it at Championship level. 1 goal every 2 games is a solid record and a sign of some natural goalscoring ability. There really wasn’t much to go off with DDG. And as for Lunny, he did get 5 goals from midfield in a low-scoring PL side last season & barely started after Berge was signed. I know he’s naff at the minute but he almost outperformed our 20m striker in terms of goals scored. On his day he’s a solid box to box mid.

Always going to be a gamble for us to pay that kind of money but this one has the most potential upside & profit when compared to someone like Adam Armstrong & Karlan Grant who would also surely be in the £14-20m range.

Scored 2 against the German side Salzburg I think.

Is Salzburg now (back) in Germany ?
You've got to keep a close eye on them sneaky bastards
Poland better be careful they'll likely be next - although with lLewandoski already in Munich there's probably nowt left worth robbing

I'm confused by this, sorry. What do you mean? Salary has nothing to do with transfer fee.

Also, there was apparently leaked info last year that said Brewster earns £10k per week.

We've spent over 50 million in 2020 alone.

Signed one of europes best rated young midfielders.

Spent 18m on a GK

Spent around 8 million on 2 players who dont even make the bench

Are building a top notch training ground

Have upgraded several contracts including CW.

All without taking a penny from fans or selling any star players.

I want a striker in as much as anyone but the typical sheff united owners comment is 100% plain and simply wrong.

Why have we not got a striker then they have had all summer to get one and still do not have one even though it was blatantly obvious we lacked any real quality upfront.
