Watkins offside good old VAR

It’s been touched on in a couple of other posts but thought it needed its own.

Watkins was offside in the build up to the sending off. It may have only been by a few inches but nonetheless offside.

I’m not expecting the ref or Lino to definitely see it but why the hell isnt VAR seeing that as part of the sending off review.

Surely that over rides the sending off.

Things like this just piss me right off

They checked it. He wasnt.
 
Who checked it? Do you mean the sky pundits after the match? If so I take it back because I switched straight off at full time. There was certainly no mention of it at the time and VAR didn’t appear to check it when reviewing the sending off
 
Where on Earth do you get the evidence to conclude that he was “inches” offside? He was quite clearly onside when the ball was played. He read the ball earlier than Egan and reacted faster.
 
It was a long punt forward and he was onside, they had a 50/50 battle and the ref saw it as a red card from miles away, fuck knows how they came to any decisions after no concrete evidence, plus the linesman was 10 yards away and he gave a throw in to Villa, to say I’m incandescent with rage would be an understatement.

I saw one view that showed he looked offside. If it wasn’t then it was close enough surely to form part of the sending off review but it didn’t.

I know one or two others have said the same in other threads

If others have seen a view that shows he’s clearly on side then fair enough, I haven’t

It did, they reviewed it.
 
The ref had x ray vision to see who was pulling who .how could he see from his position .also someone on tv mentioned linesman had flagged for a throw in .usually the linesan flags frantically when he thinks its a foul
 
He didn't flag for a throw-in. As soon as the ref blew his whistle he flagged for the foul. Not furiously, just casually.
 
He was onside, however he started the shirt pulling and quite how VAR didnt pick up on this is a question only they can answer. Like not telling the ref a ball was 2 ft over the line. Dodgy officials
 



I’d have to disagree with the OP. I think Watkins was onside. I paused the action and drew some lines on the TV screen using my “Stanley” metal tape measure, a “De Walt” spirit level and “Crayola” wax crayons, to check it.

The first line showed that Egan was directly in line with the edge of the photo frame, on top of the telly, fearuring Uncle Ralph and Aunty Eileen on a pedalo on holiday in Benidorm in 1994. The second line showed that Watkins was directly in line with the right paw of my “Poodle in China” - a wedding gift from Aunt Mabel, which sits to the left of the photo on top of the telly.

Therefore, Watkins was definitely onside.

Anyone have any tips for removing wax crayon marks from a TV screen? 🤔

I think the ref had been watching our previous games and knew that no way was Egan gonna catch him in a foot race.

The Assistant Ref WAS indicating for a throw in

Absolutely ridiculous reply and one that I’m not going to take seriously

Who in their right mind would put Aunt Mabel’s wedding gift on top of the tele.

If that was me it would be in the back of the wardrobe never to be seen again.
 
In all seriousness and without wanting to labour the point, was it really reviewed by VAR?

I genuinely don’t remember them doing that. Maybe I was in the early process of putting my fist through the tv and missed it

They said they reviewed it but we never saw it, either way he was certainly onside.
