So who does own the freehold of BDTBL ? and is any debt secured against it ? :D

Quality!!!!

I'll go for Bank of Scotland or whatever they are called now.

Freehold Title Absolute: The Sheffield United Football Club Ltd.
Mortgaged to bank of Scotland PLC
In June 2009 a charge (debt secured against the property) was entered for Sheffield United Football Club Ltd. to pay Scarborough Ventures Ltd: £1m on 15/01/2010; £1m on 28/05/2010; £1m on 13/08/2010; £1m on 14/01/2011; £1.5m on 27/05/2011 and £1.5 M on 12/08/11

Scarborough Ventures Ltd has the 2 younger McCabes as directors alongside Esplanade Directors Ltd.

Esplanade Directors Ltd was dormant until just recently. Its directors are the 2 younger McCabes, Sandra McCabe and Paul Richardson, Finance Director at Scarborough group.

(all the above available from the land registry and companies house)

The charge and structuring of the repayments to KM and Scarborough is in line with the time line for payments coming from West Ham .

Thanks - that's made my day. I thought there was something sinister afoot, although I guess it's all relative. If there had been none of the rumours I'm not sure I'd have been turning cartwheels at the thought we'd hocked up a debt on the Lane just to shore up cash-flow. As it is, I'm relieved that that's all it is - making an existing asset pay against what is considered a pretty secure future income stream.

So if I've read this correctly (every likelihood I haven't), this is how McCabe will get some pay-back from the West Ham money - which presumably he sees as some compensation for the lost value of the club from being relegated.
