Palace have just sold Sorloth & are about to sell Benteke so they have the funds to do a permanent deal.

Sadly, we don't. We only seem to be pursuing this as a loan.

Nixon's not really told us anything we don't already know. Shocked (but not shocked at the same time) that Villa are still interested.

Atm, I'm struggling to find the reasons why I believe he'll sign for us

I know that he's more likely to start with us, over perhaps Villa, but at Palace he could be a regular, especially if Zaha moves on.

I hear CW saying that we have a list of other targets should the two he's shown his hand with not work out. This makes me think Brewster arriving is a big doubt. CW doesn't appear positive at all.

Hope I'm wrong.

why don’t we have any money?
Because we've already spent it on

Berge last January
Two lads from Derby on a split decision by the board.
Robinson/Burke is a contra transaction.
New contracts for several existing players.

Our pot is limited and whilst I have no idea what is left in it I can see plenty of places where it has been spent.

I don't think we're brassic but I do think we need to be thrifty.

If signing one player for £25m would guarantee PL survival I'm sure we could do it but unfortunately football just doesn't work that way, ask Fulham!

I also hope you’re wrong but fear you may be right. The only glimmer is that Wolves have come in for Ox and the money received may allow Pool to loan rather than sell.

Odd then that no one seems willing to pay then isn’t it? I’d suggest it’s not such a bargain and every fucker in the game doesn't quite rate him as highly as you do?
Maybe other teams have more confidence in the strikers they already have?

Zaha is a winger ,Brewster is a number nine
To get in the first team at palace he has to get past ayew ( who is playing really well ) and batshayui who is on a hundred grand a week and sat on the bench

Tells You we are skint we get offered him but no we want a loan we will miss out due to no ambition. Frustrating

He is there for the taking and a clear partner for McBurnie upfront get him signed and stop fannying about i say.

It is things like this that will cost dearly.

We should just move on and go and get someone in now.

Our attacking options atm are 3 players who scored a combined 10 PL goals last year and In Burke someone who has 12 career goals in total. That needs to be rectified.

Even if it’s not our number one target we need some bodies in. This one’s dragging on and on and palace are now clearly in the driving seat (with the money to pay a fee.)

Who knows what the situation is?
Nixon changes his mind with the wind yet so called supporters use his “information” as ammunition to criticise our club.
A club that had risen three divisions in four seasons.
Wilder has acknowledged the support he is receiving and will make the best of what he has.

We could be a Wednesday a Fulham or a Villa!!

This is a genuine question...should we have spent the c£7M on the 2 fullbacks this season (don’t get me wrong I am over the moon we have them) knowing Ampadu and Oz provide good cover and rather used this money to stretch ourselves for a quality striker? The evidence suggests we are a few quid short (by how much no one knows) but I personally think the priority should have been a striker.

Which is probably why there was a 3 to 2 split in the board on the purchase of the Derby lads.

We can only assume that Wilder has a plan and knows what he's doing.

At the end of the day it's his decision to make and his future at stake if he gets it wrong.

it’s been obvious for months that we need a proper strike partner for mcburnie yet the seasons started and it looks like we’re nowhere near close to having one in.

It's reminding me of the McBurnie transfer last year. Dragged on for ages before finally getting resolved. Hopefully this Brewster deal has the same ending.

we have already agreed a fee it’s just the structure of the payment, initial payment and buyback etc that is taking the time in agreeing.

We did need proper cover at Fullback - and I think even if they aren’t starting if they bring an increased level of competition for baldock and Stevens and improve their game it will be worth it. They are also long term solutions for us and who can grow with us.

Playing devils advocate - this transfer window will probably come down to Brewster or ramsdale. Obviously we need a keeper LT, but perhaps a solution might have been to wait and sort that one on loan with say a hendo / Martinez or Romero type (I’ve no idea who was actually available) while securing Brewster.

Then again, almost everyone seems to suggest we have that quality striker already? Certain McBurnie, I mean.

What i would like to know is where do these so called journalists get their alleged information from that we are supposed to be skint 🙄

Pretty sure that Nixon said we were looking at Brewster permanently.

Looks like no one knows what is going off.

Bloody hell, I forgot Ramsdale 🤣

Well I wish they would get the fuk on with it (both clubs) then as each game that goes by without another forward being brought in, is a game less for them to play this season and 3 points being available which could be crucial to us come the end if the season.

If we are short of the total transfer fee then I get that we might not be able to afford it full stop (in which case move on to other targets ASAP). If we have agreed a fee then get on with agreeing the instalments, buy back clause and the finer details pronto. How long should it take to iron out these details? It shouldn't take weeks. Fuk sake, ive seen company acquisitions involving numerous legal bodies being involved being completed quicker (first hand in my line of business). Strikes me as potential issues with cashflow and capex for Utd.

Agree we desperately needed fullback cover as we’re a system-based team and that system relies massively on the wide areas. But loan fees can be frightening, so Ramsdale on a permanent did make sense to me.

I think the biggest issue is that we took the chance to buy Berge by bringing forward the summer budget. Covid then trimmed our income unexpectedly. And now we need to find a way to get a quality forward in with some creative deal making. If we pull it off, then this will have been two incredible transfer windows. If not, our Achilles heel may be exposed.

Either way, I’d not criticise - clearing out the L1 squad players and bringing in Prem replacements on our budget is near impossible.

I don't think it's a lack of ambition. Wilder has said, he won't spend money that the club doesn't have. He wants to protect the future of the club and build slowly. This is entirely sensible. Particularly during a pandemic.
