I've heard that the writing credit was a gift from George as he was breaking Wham up, not sure if that's true but damned decent if it is.

EDIT: Just seen the timeline, not sure that fits actually. Although in the US it was released as a Wham song, not George Michael.

Love this. Although to be fair John Percy at the Telegraph has been one of the better reporters out there for stories. He was the one to break the Bogle and Lowe deals. He was close on the Matty Cash stuff too. Pretty sure he covers the Midlands, which is probably why.
