The gold and lilac kit had a recoloured badge to match the shirt and looked shit, the orange HFS loans kit had an orange ring instead of red and looked shit, that weird grey and lime third shirt that briefly existed one year had a monochrome lime badge and looked shit. Every single Leicester or Chelsea away shirt with a monochrome circle badge looks shit. The full badge in a shield would look shit.

The 90s thing of sticking it in a shield and dropping the red ring was just about OK as a variation, and the simple blades and rose logo looks smart as long as it's in white.

Changing the colour of the rose would be the worst thing about monochrome badges and anyone who suggests a red monochrome badge should be burned at the stake for crimes against Yorkshire.

Other than that I don't have any real strong feelings on the subject either way.

Just a thought on never changing the colours for the home shirt. Our home colours are red, white and black. The badge colours already match the shirt!

I'm all for it. When our away kit came out the first thing I commented on was the pink and red clash.
Would have preferred the badge and sponsor blacked / greyed out.

Unfortunately some people seem very uncomfortable with us losing our identity by changing the colours, as if we're creating a brand new badge or something.

As long as it's still identifiable as a United badge (even with the blades and rose as above) - if it's something a bit different and suits the kit that's the main thing for me. I think it makes kits look miles better.
That Ajax kit isn't even monochrome, it's a complete contrast to the blue, and it looks fucking outstanding simple because they've inverted the red and white

Make it Pink on ladies oppression day, multi coloured on Rainbow laces day, black in solidarity with the US brothers and maybe even white once in a while so we can boo it.

Or of course we could just stick with our own history and put two fingers up to the kit designers who don't have a scooby where little old Sheffield might be.

It’s got to be cheaper for the kit manufacturers to use the existing stock of red white and black badges rather than making new ones of different colours. There is no justification in changing it.

It had a brief spell and was brought back in 99
Have a look at our kits from the 80’s and 90s, it’s not the current badge. It’s either without the actual badge background or the shield

Absolutely fucking not. This is identity, our badge, who we are. It is not some logo to be tinkered with by some pillock that thinks they're the next Paul Smith. Design over substance bollocks, fuck that!

It's a symbolic white rose! Not pink, yellow, green, orange or heaven forbid red, but a white Yorkshire rose. The colours are important, essential even.

I don’t care about Ajax so I don’t know what their club badge looks like which is why I can’t answer.

The thing with that Ajax badge you love so much is that it doesn't even match the kit it's on, there's a bit of red trim on the collar, that's it, they haven't dumped the club colours to match some ugly gold or green trim on some wanky concept kit, they just made it white on red instead of red and black on white.

The rose means we can't really do the same thing, as an all red badge ends up with a red rose, and swapping the red and black over looks like a Charlton badge. All white looks bland. Doing it 80s/90s style without the red ring and black circle still looks like a blades badge more than messing about with the colours like the gold and lilac abomination, you could even get away with colour matching the text, just keep the blades and rose white.
