Which 2 up top next season?

I'd go mcburnie & moose if we can get him fit happy and firing thats if we don't bring anybody else in at the top end. I get people like mcgoldrik but he isn't gonna score enough and all this "he's our most creative player" is bull, he made 2 assists last season. Yes he's probably the most comfortable on the ball but creative wise he isn't.
I think it boils down to this for me. We have 2 great strikers in McBurnie and Mousset who complement each other well (Height + Pace). McGoldrick links up well but need more from him / someone who is more clinical finishing, and younger to be honest. This has to be the last season of McGoldrick surely if we're to progress.

What do people think if Wilder went back to the formation of our L1 and Championship days for certain games opposition dependant? Obviously we can't see him wanting to set up with the advanced attacking midfield role against the top teams though.

McBurnie - - - - Mousset

- - - - - - - Didzy - - - - - - -

This is providing we don't manage to sign a striker or two and an attacking/creative midfielder.

This is of course if Moose can get and stay fit which may or may not happen, we'll find out this season which will probably be his last chance as I can't imagine Wilder having yet more patience if he doesn't. Also as he often doesn't play for very long he may have to come off the bench unless he has a decent pre-season which will be his first with us by the way so I may give him the benefit of the doubt here and be a little optimistic.

I think having those three playing together is probably our best combination and should suit each other. They all offer something different. McB isn't necessarily a target man but works his bollocks off, will provide for the other two, decent in the air and can score himself given enough chances (how I've just described him there makes it sound like he is a target man! 😆) . Moose has rapid pace and can also finish whether it's a tap in or a fantastic strike and then Didzy being the link up man.

However if Didzy doesn't seem to improve much (from last season) if at all then see how L Freeman might perform in there?

We may be better off trying this combination in one of the upcoming pre-season games. The downside to this of course is our opposition in these games aren't Prem teams but it should give an indicator at least. As for trying it in an actual league game this ought to be against what we perceive/hope to be a team inferior than us and at home early in the season as possible so that it's out of the way if it fails, better this way in case we end up in the relegation battle ourselves providing CWAK plenty of the season remaining to find alternate solutions.

Agree I like this set up, particularly when we need to take the game to the opposition. Good shout on L Freeman too i think he could do a job in Didzy's role

So.

Everyman and his dog goes McB + 1 other.

Let’s see how that pans out next season, shall we !😉.

Mine.

And (more than) a few other observant ones as well 👀😉.

Of the ones we have at present I'd continue with the policy of rotating them. I don't really think we've got a decent PL pairing on the books. McGoldrick is the one that should play more games than anyone else but he can't be expected to play all the time.

We need a couple more unless McGoldrick, Mousset and McBurnie are going to at least double their goal tallies next season.

More striker = more goal

I think mcgoldrik needs to do slightly more than double his goal tally, try triple it then double that and add a few 😂

Stick Ozzy, Mcgoldrick and Fleck up front for a laugh.

We'd best create more chances then.

McB and a fit Moose is the one for me, McB ideally in a role which gets it to his feet more (hes got good feet)

Goal tallies will be one, most important KPI.

I would urge you, and others, to evidence this by now legendary “works his bollocks off” attribute (total urban myth btw), his effectiveness at controlling, retaining and distributing the ball, relative lack of speed strength and stamina, quality in front of goal (actual G against XG), any discernible improvement in overall technical ability such as 1st touch, striking the ball, heading the ball, spacial awareness of others, general hold up play, pass completion, key passes, movement on and off the ball.

Or maybe all that matters is that he projects this “geezer” type persona that the average coke head can manage to get his head around and generally approve of ?

Innit bro ???😂😀😉.

The jury is still out on McBurnie for me, he improved no end towards the end of the season though but will never be the Rolls Royce of a striker that I'd like, however we don't have Rolls Royce money to spend.

I don't hate him to the extent that you do though. I also don't follow him on any kind of social media so I must have missed his "geezer persona".

Better strikers cost a lot of money
Better strikers also still would need more creativity in order to score more goals

See my post on the other thread you are having the same debate on. We won't pay for better strikers, so we need more. If we stay with what we've got now we will struggle in my opinion.

Hate ?

Amazing how frequently that crops up.

Do you imagine I sulk when he scores or otherwise contributes positively to the cause ?

Such as in an excellent all round performance against Spurs ?

No. 100% no. I just call it as I see it.

It’s Leon Clarke all over again for me, with folks conveniently ignoring the fact that for circa 80% of his time on the pitch, he ain’t any bleedin good !!!

I am very hesitant to judge our strikers until we are creating them chance after chance and they're missing them

There's only McGoldrick who you can lay that one at this season

Hate might be a strong word, however the praise for McB is given in very much the same way that praise was given to Leon. I don’t get the agenda, if our players play well I am happy. I don’t say “yeah he played well but he’s still shit”, it’s unnecessary.

McGoldrick and a new signing that can finish and has one or both of pace and power.

In reality, we will sign no forwards and continually rotate what we’ve got as none of them will consistently play well and take chances. Hopefully one or more of them will surprise me though.

If Didzy can shake his injury, I'd start him Mcburnie, but we still need another decent striker, and if Moose doesnt buck up, I'd say 2.

So McGoldrick and “good” Moose then ?

BTW, I, unlike almost everyone else, would not be so quick to dismiss Sharp in this role just yet either !😉.

I would back all 3 to double their tallies to be fair. Still need another one or two though for depth.

Yep. Said it to Deadbat earlier - if Moose actually worked at his craft, he could be decent and quite possibly the answer. Before he does that, he needs to concentrate on lasting more than half an hour though.
