Just got my tickets for this one. 57 bastard quid for 2 tickets to a no doubt dull match between 2 shit teams, in a shit fucking town. Nah, I'm actually looking forward to the day out. Plenty of beers after in Derby.

The girl in the ticket office (absolute plank) told me that we'd sold our initial batch of tickets, so I think that means that there'll be at least a 1000 Blades going down. I'm pleasantly surprised by that, as with the gash football, economic climate Derby being a shithole and the expensive tickets I thought not many would go. Of course Derby is not far away.

As for the match, I think it will be a dull game with probably a single goal settling it. My prediction is Derby 1-0.

What's the usual stuff we do on these threads? Who's going? Your predictions? Suggested formations? Most importantly where will everyone be drinking?

I'd like to see us play:

---------- SS

Calve Morgs Bartely Jordan

Ward Britton Quinn Yeates

------ Evans Cresswell

I'd like to see us go out and attack and try to win the game. Get the ball out to Yeates and Ward and use the flanks. Give Britton some space and make Quinny get forward and support the strikers.

I very much doubt that Speed will play this though. I expect to see the 4-5-1 (4-3-3) and expect that Monty, Ertl and Nossa may be in the line up.

It wouldn't be a proper thread of mine if I didn't have a moan. I was on the blower to the ticket office for fooking ages. Surely there can't be that many people calling up. I had 6 people in front of me yet it took them half an hour to answer the phone. Then the girl was an absolute numbskull. She couldn't wait to get me of the phone though. I'll bet she's a clapper. I hope the pies and Bovril at Pride Park are better than at the Lane.

Nice thought Olle, but he'll play 4-5-1 just like he did at home, for 3 reasons:
- We don't have the quality on the wings and the midfield to support attacking football away
- The players know 4-5-1 away and he'll be looking to get the players used to "free flowing passing" before changing the stable formation for an expansive style.
- Its safer. What we need is the players to gain confidence home and away, a defeat won't help, but a 'good' point will keep the crowd off the backs for the following 2 (winnable) homes games to come in the week following.

Team for me:

Simmo

Calve Morgs Bartley Jordan

Ward Monty Ertl Britton Quinn

Cresswell

Depending on how Ched is when he gets back I think he may rest him and keep him for Scunny and Pompey.

Normally whinge from Olle ;)

They were probably selling hotel room bookings as well

Although I agree with the sentiments of not losing, building confidence and picking up points away from home that team makes me want to send my ticket back. £28 to watch a team that has no width, no creativity and no pace play for a draw. Watch Britton sit in front of the back 4, Monty run around like a headless chicken and Ertl pass side ways. How the fuck are we supposed to score with that team? A 'battling' midfield, that smacks you in the face of having little quality. Creswell will get isolated and we'll get nothing.

Derby are not that good, so I suppose trying tio stifle them could work. But isn't this one of the reasons why we got rid of KB. His negativty used to kill me. Of course Speedo has inherited his mess, but fuck the 4-5-1. I am sticking to my guns ...... we should go there and take them on!

Olle, Why do you think I'm not going ;) Although I do question my own sanity that I've got us down for a defeat at Leeds and I'm going to that one!

I really don't know what you want.... You and so many knockers have banged on for months (as have I to an extent) about wanting things to improve, consistently said that the players Blackie has left behind are crap, yet you want these same players to suddenly turn into superstar footballers.

If the players are as awful as you and so many say then be prepared for a long hard season.

Personally I think we have SOME capable players, but in only our 3rd game under Speed I wouldn't want us to change too much too soon.

With Britton and Quinn you'd end up with two short arses in the middle who are more defensive and in quinnys place he cares more about whinging at anyone in his vicinity than positional discipline... And you're prepared to play two pretty boy wingers with all pace and nothing else... Shall we skip the midfield then?

And while we're at it, lets skip the strikers too as Cressy and Ched will see feck all there!

At least if you're playing two up front stick Wardy and Cresswell/ Ched...

There aren't many teams that play away with width.

I really hope that your team could prove me wrong but I can't see it.

0-0 will do fine for me

Are people generally that apathetic at the moment that they can't be bothered to predict the score or say what they think the line up will be on Saturday? Perhaps it's got more to do with the thread creator and the camp he sits in and his slightly provocative posts.

Ay up, Derby fan in peace. Hope you don't mind some pre match banter? Posted on here a couple of times pre and post the shocker at your place last season.

I expect us to line up 4-2-3-1. We've been playing some very neat football so far this season, and not really got our rewards from a tough first four games. Main problem is a complete lack of any sort of striker spearheading the attack, last three games, and probably on saturday we've been using reserve left back Dean Moxey as the one up front. We've also been conceding really cheap goals, not a good mix!!!

New players you might not have heard of before - Tomasz Cywka should start on the right of the front three. Young Polish player we picked up on a free from Wigan in the summer, got strength, speed and ability but still pretty raw. And James Bailey in centre mid was a 400k purchase from Crewe and looks like the composed player we've needed in the middle for years. Can pick a pass, and scored a beauty against QPR.

We've just signed a lad called Alberto Bueno on loan from Villadolid for a season, came through the youth system at Real Madrid before moving to Villadolid (sp?) for 5 million. No idea what he's like but has played for Spain at U-21 level so should imagine he's got ability (but might take a while to adjust to the English game)

International break came at a good time for us, let Players who have been struggling with injury like Commons and Barker get back to 'fitness' (derby players are rarely 'fit')

----------------- Moxey
Commons----- Green------ Cywka
--------Savage ------ Bailey
Roberts----Leacock---Barker--- Breyford
----------------Bywater

COYR!

While ever you sit in a 'camp' then your opinions will be coloured by the need to conform to this 'camps' set of ideals.

Olle, Based upon this line up, I will change my boring 0-0 prediction for a resounding 0-4 Blades victory. We'll still play football but we should hammer a side like this ;)

Allright Kenny mate.

Fooking ell it's gunna be a dull game on Saturday. We're currently in 'transition' (whether the manager and baord are admitting it or not) and you should be expecting to take 3 points of us. Blackwell has left Speed with an thin squad, that lacks any real creativity and pace. There are a few decent players, such as Britton (from Swansea on a free) who'll dictate in the middle of the park, Simonsen (from Stoke) who is a decent keeper and Ward who is dangerous.

Our new additions are Ertl (from Palace) who is a decent CM without being anything more, Calve (French), Jordan (loan signing), Bartley (on loan from Arsenal).

We're lacking a bit of confidence and I think Speed will care more about losing, so I expect he'll play:

------- Simonsen

Calve Bartley Morgs Jordan

------- Briton

----- Monty Ertl

Ward ------------ Yeates

-------- Cresswell

I'd like to see

simmo
calve bartley morgan jordan
monty Britton
yeates ward cresswell
Evans

Ward will have license to roam

Cresswell Boggy

The team will have license to Play Football
The midfield will have license to create chances
The strikers will have license to shoot at goal

Evans, Montgomery, Quinn, Morgan will have license to improve and then perhaps they may make the starting line up!:D

Wrong about the latter, he's gone to Greece. Entirely right about the former, though.

aye, I remember it being in the east end of the Med ...... not far enough in my mind.

Steady on Fiery. You'll be expecting us to go out away from home looking for all 3 points next!!?

Xanthi with Ellington or Jason Roberts (can't remember which)

Well according to some on here all our players are shite because Blackwell ruined them/ signed them so even if we go looking we'll find nothing.... Oh wait a minute you were one of them ;)

come on Swiss, get it right. Blackwell ruined the squad (and pretty much the club) by signing crap. Not all (but most) our players are shite. Still, the 'clappers' on here think that cheap as chips (mark II) can walk on water, so maybe I shiould start expecting us to pick up some points. Mind you, even Jesus would have an uphill task managing this team.

This is where i've always had an issue Olle, Blackwell didn't ruin the squad or the club by signing crap. For whatever reason, we played some awful football last season and this, but I don't believe its because we have poor players, I think the players that we have are all more than capable, however we haven't got all positions covered just now and to shift to a different playing style takes time to re-adjust.

I'm not sure anyone has stated that Speed can walk on water, I thought that the complete change in stance was from those that wanted Blackwell out and were implying that a revolution was on its way. Whereas the more positive and realistic amongst us have pretty much stated that yes, Speed COULD be a decent appointment, but he needs time and he also needs a few things to drop into place.

Oh and Jesus was overrated.

My team, playing 3-5-2:-

..............Simonsen.......................
......Bartley Morgan Nosworthy........
Calve........Britten................Jordan
........Ward............Yeates.............
............Creswell Evans.................

Subs:- Aksalu, Lowton, Ertl, Montgomery, Quinn, Chappell, Bogdanovic

3-5-2. That brings back a few memories to the Spackman and Bruce eras. Steve Bruce worked out that playing that system against a team with decent full backs and wingers means a reight ass raping. I watched Sunderland overlap on the wings time and time again and rip us to pieces at Bramall Lane years back when we got tonked 4-0 (I think Michael Bridges got a hat trick that day maybe?)

Anyway, onto much more important factors. Where are people drinking pre and post match tomorrow - I've been told there's an away pub nearish to the ground?
Prediction for the game:
Derby 6 - 7 United.
Blades 6-1 down at half time. Monty scores a double hat trick in the 2nd half including a 40yard screamer in injury time to win the game. Blades fans go mental. Hurrah.

1) I don't think we even played 3-5-2 in the game against Sunderland. If we did who are the three centre backs in this team?:-
Sheff Utd: Tracey, Borbokis, Quinn, Bruce, Derry, Hamilton, Ford (Marcelo, 23 ) , Marker (Nilsen, 45 ) , Kachouro (Henry, 45 ) , Woodhouse, Stuart
I suspect the real problem that day was the presence of Bruce himself and Nicky Marker at Centre back rather than the system.

2) Spackman did play 3-5-2 and I don't remember us getting too many "ass rapings". Our record under Spackman was P43 W20 D17 L6 PTS 77 AVG 1.79 Win% 47%

3) I think it's our best formation with the current squad because we don't have the personnel to play 4-3-3 (No good attacking midfielder if Britten plays deep) or 4-4-2 (No pace up front and the wingers get tied down by defensive duties). 3-5-2 gives us a solid base and allows Ward and Yeates more license to attack and create.

No, you're right Sothall. I must've been seeing things that day. I wasn't there. I wasn't there as a season ticket holder and I definitley didn't see us play 3-5-2. Thankyou for clarifying that.
You really should take into football management Sothall and bring back the glory days of 3-5-2 that all the great managers have won with this system. Just remind me which sides recently succeeded with 3-5-2 again...

Who played in the back three then, smart arse?

Why are there so many touchy people on these forums? I wasn't at the game and I don't really care that much for the answer to my question. Point 1 made by Sothall seemed perfectly fair to me. Not nasty, based on reason (look at the line up) and a sensible question.

I'd call you a touchy twat but I don't want an infraction.

We should stop pissing about with these silly formations and go 4-4-2.....and yes we do have the players for it!

....................Simonsen....................
Calve.......Morgan.....Bartley......Jordan
Ward....Montgomery..Britton......Yeates
...............Evans.....Cresswell.............

Simples :)

Well Foxy set off about an hour ago. They're drinking at the Pride Park, an Innkeeper's Lodge pub near TC Harrisons.
