Umbro: Next kit supplier after Adidas?

Based on a lot of the templates, I'd probably prefer either Umbro or New Balance next.

I'd rather stick with Adidas. Their stuff is all quality, designs are a matter of opinion but materials, cut etc all top notch.

There seems to be this thing on here that Adidas are some nasty company that bans stripey backs and is loathe to make kits for us, but everything points to them doing as they're told but what they're being told isn't to every fans liking.

The best thing to do would be to get Adidas to make the kit everyone can agree on, not change supplier.

The away kit this season is a nice kit. If it was fluorescent orange, or black, or yellow everyone would be raving about it, but it's pink so some people don't like it.

The home kit is the same, take a step back and just look at it as a design from a non Sheffield United perspective, and it's probably the smartest kit in the whole league. From a Sheffield United perspective there's a few things to add, but overall the issue isn't the supplier in my opinion and you could say it's the person at United choosing the designs but at the end of the day there's only so much you can do with red and white stripes and the grass isn't always greener having seen some other kits this season...

They are good kits, I do however feel we've become a bit spoilt by the Adidas, kits I know this year's aren't to everyone's taste (I really like the away kit, think the home one is ok) but compared to some of yesteryears efforts they are light years ahead

Theres no way that everyone would agree on the same kit. Some weirdos liked the Avec diamonds abomination, for example.

Yep. The front of it looks smart from a distance, but click the image to enlarge, and it's just one cloth all the way over the shirt. Say what you want about Adidas, but the workmanship and material used on all of the shirts they've produced for us have been fantastic.

Bloody loved the Avec kits, but thats because it was when I first got took to the lane .... the purple / yellow away kit is a thing of beauty

I reckon we should get the cheapest (ethical) supplier (e.g. Lotto/Gola/Mizuno/Slazenger!) and sell the kits for cheaper, while making the same profits.

£55 is a lot. £35 for the shorts is insane (sympathy for the people that want them).

Also the tracksuits/t-shirts etc are generally really expensive too.

Umbro are poor these days, the quality is terrible

Hummel are worse,

Kappa are good but they're obsessed with the skin-tight fit and nothing worse than middle-aged men in skin-tight tops

Adidas arent the best imo, but the three stripes are highly marketable so the training gear will always sell well

Nike are the best by a country mile, however, we would never get a bespoke contract and therefore not worth it. be a contract like Sunderlands

Puma throw money around like crazy and another good season could see them show interest although im not keen at all

Under Armour seem to be moving out of football, but in the past have been good

Truth is it would take numerous seasons of prolonged success for any big brand to show enough interest to throw a bespoke contract at us so may as well get used to badged up templates

Slazenger? Ethical? theyre owned by Mike Ashley, Mizuno are also not cheap, and Gola havent been involved in football since early 90s

I’d rather us stick with adidas as from a commercial point of view we can’t be doing too bad purely because of the amount of merchandise we sell. There was quite a buzz when it got announced we’d got adidas because we’d had lower level brands for 20 years before it.

Even in the first 2 years of adidas when we were dog shit I saw more people wear official training wear/kits/coats than I ever did when we had macron and le coq because the adidas stuff is better quality and, as vain as it is, has more street cred. I’m not normally one to get kits but I’ve bought quite a few United shorts to wear to gym etc over past few years because they’re adidas and have a United badge on it.

Aside from a commercial point of view I think the kits we’ve had have been spot on and we don’t seem to get the same template crap that every other club bar the top 6 get, at least the home ones anyway have had a custom slant on them.

Genuine question: Why would it not be worth it if it's not a bespoke contract? Surely that won't affect the deal with Nike or the shirt sales?

Umbro are owned by Nike. Hummel are the one company doing one off designs for clubs, not templates. got a mate who’s a boro fan and loves their new kit and the quality of it

Nike sold Umbro in about 2012 once they'd taken the England contract off them, wouldn't mind someone like Hummel just to see what they could do design wise as although I love Adidas as a brand we are never going to be a major player for them
