Striker frenzy

I’ve noticed a lot of posters frothing at the mouth for another striker... and I don’t get it?

Sure 18 goals between the 5 strikers we have as things stand isn’t a great return. But I don’t feel like any of them (except Didzy) missed loads of chances, so surely we need to focus more on personnel that can create more chances?

We spent £38 mil on strikers in the last window, so I feel that unless we can shift Robinson for a decent fee I can’t really see us buying a new forward.

What do you lot think?

Callum Robinson will be offski. We can't have 3 Robinsons. And more to the point he just doesn't really fit here, he's got talent but not the aggression and drive. And he's just not that fast.

A PL Club needs at least one or two strikers, who can create their own chances. Simple as that. That £38 million wasn't well spend. Even CW makes mistakes.

if you look back he had chances my 10 year old could score. Is It confidence ? It is lack of experience ? Who knows but put Sharp in the same situation that McBurnie didnt take the chance and Sharp would have scored.

I'm a big fan of all our strikers, but if everyone takes their red 'n white glasses off for a sec...

Sharp (34) should only be a bench player at best
McGoldrick (32) not prolific and not fit enough to play 90 mins back to back. Probably his last season as a regular starter for us
Moussett (24) not fit enough and has had plenty of time to get fit. Defo worth keeping, but we can't build a team round a player that can only play 60 mins at a time.
McBurnie (24) had a great 2nd half of the season and the man that Wilder is going to build around. Probably going to play most games, but can't create on his own.
Robinson (25) doesn't seem to fit our system. If anyone offers us £10m, expect to see him leave.

Based on the above, we do need another striker to partner McBurnie. Can see it being a loan or a cheaper option from Europe, but we do need it...

I reckon Moose and McBurnie will both come-good - then you’ve got Billy as a wily old poacher on the bench & Didzy to come in when our forwards are too isolated.

I wouldn’t be devastated if we didn’t get another striker in, as GK and RCM are positions we have nowt in place for & will probably require most of our available moolah.

But, having said all that - I would be chuffed to bits if we can get Brewster on loan.

Stikers are different things to different teams. If you play one upfront and get 18 goals you're probably pretty happy...

We need to find more ways to score more often. Especially when a team is sat in.

Mcburnie will be fine but needs help, hard to find though with everyone being after the same thing

Here's an algorithm for you:

Budget = Money to spend.
Target = Reasonable Expectation
If Target = True, Budget = Well Spent.
If Target = Fail, Budget NOT well spent.

I spent last season thinking the Target was "Avoid Relegation", so unless you're saying the target was something like "Qualify for Europe" (in which case you're correct, of course) then Target certainly equalled True.

You can count the amount of good chances Oli and Moose missed on one hand

Seems like you yourself admit that this Target/algorithm of yours was a one season thing for starters. But hey ho, it's going to be a whole new campaign. And truly, I did/do expect us to make sensible purchases with long term in view. I'm pretty sure CW did/does. What if McBurnie won't score more goals next season? What if our midfield "fails" again in delivering the ball straight to his head when the opposing team's GK is on holiday? Or should we perhaps get rid of all the midfield in order to buy players - from League One - who can better serve Oli than our present squad? Anyways, I truly hope to be proven wrong, Oli scoring some 22 goals next season. I promise even to buy that god awful p*ssy-coloured away shirt with Oli's name on it, if he keeps banging them in.

We need at least one more striker if Robinson goes. Possibly 2. One of those will be a loan. Both might be.

Course it was a one season thing, it always is. Budget/Target, Spend/Play, Succeed/Fail.

We averaged a goal a game in the league last season, which was one of the worst in the league. We were saved by our mean defence, which may not be as mean next season (esp if we don't get as good a keeper as Hendo).

Our weakest position is attack by a mile. Sharp and Didsy are not likely to improve any time soon at their age and prem experience, but then Clarke managed it in the championship so who knows. We should get someone young like Ollie Watkins who is improving. Robinson may even come good in time, who knows.

For the risk of sounding like a broken record! Average in this league for strikers is £40m (Joelinton/Haller). Name me one championship team who could spend £80m plus wages on 2 average premier league strikers after gaining promotion?

Quite right, "dude". Sorry about that. I forgot about you the teenage Greeks. Next time I'll be over in England I won't be attending a game, but a cultural diversity educational lessions on how to not to offend teenage Greeks by talking "Siberian".
