Memries of Brighton

Does anyone remember the time we all turned up at The Goldstone wearing wellies and parkas in the middle of what appeared to be a heatwave?
Knee deep snow in Sheffield from an overnight blizzard causing all sorts of transport problems and having to walk most of the way into town to catch coaches.
When we got to Brighton there was no sign of snow, in fact it was warm and sunny and the locals were laughing at us lot getting off the coaches dressed for the South Pole while some of them were shirt sleeves.

How do you feel about Potter? I’ve seen a couple of your games and you dominated the ball. Against Newcastle and most of the Palace game you looked several leagues above them but ended up with two draws. I hope we both stay up and show that you can take it to the ‘big’ teams.

They looked good at Anfield t'other week as well.

My main memory of this fixture was the Carl Asaba hat trick including two penalties, having come off the bench.

The 5-4 is one of my favourite games of all time.

Same here.

Another one I remember is a 1-0 win down there midweek about 15 years ago, Jags may have scored. I went down after work wearing a suit and they sang “Are you Prescott in disguise?” at me (it was during their stadium struggle). Which was nice.

That was early in 2005-6. Jags did indeed score the winner.

Good report Grafikhaus, just one mistake the programme with Philliskirk on is Oldham away. I know this because that's me at the side of our young un with a pot on his foot in the photo. 😉

The cover is Oldham away (8th September, 1984 - 2-2), but the prog. is the Brighton game at Bramall Lane - 15th December 1984 (1-1).

Made it as far as the Oldham car park that day on Kaz's coach only for us all to be refused entry and given a police escort out of Lancashire .

Good times.

Remember it like yesterday Sitwell , we’ll certain parts of a mad weekend

Are they doing a Haka?
Well our knob heads certainly got some shortly after, I was at that game amongst The Blades in the corner of the ground you can see in the top right of the picture.

A couple of dozen invaded the pitch to confront a few Brighton fans in the centre circle, they chased them to the far end where their strategy fell apart when loads of Brighton fans invaded and a full on tactical withdrawal occurred, they ran to us for assistance but we were behind high fences and of no use.

So they were trapped and got a good beating right under our noses until the coppers arrived and saved them. It was all a bit brainless and crap really.

Klanger I must have been standing next to you because that's exactly how i remember it. Not a happy memory watching some of our lads getting the shit beaten out of them right in front of me, knob heads or not. The risks you take I suppose...
A few years later I was living in SE London and a Blade mate who works in TV rang and said he'd pick me up and we were going to see the RAWW at the Withdean. With his media ID he could get in anywhere of course, so he pointed to a row of empty seats in the middle of the 'stand' if you could call it that and he told me to sit there and he'd see me at half time. Straight away I start getting funny looks from left right and centre and reckoned I was about to get filled in. Then someone taps me on the shoulder and asks "are you in the band" So it turns out Fatboy Slim had reserved a few seats for himself and his entourage! From memory we went two down fairly quickly but came back strongly to win 3-2 I think Asaba got a couple. Our neighbours weren't very happy but we managed to get home unscathed

Deane nearly scored with a header on his 3rd return at the Lane, if only that had gone in.
Remember the 4-2, think Brown scored a hat trick that day.

Remember that Oldham game in 84 also we’d all gone in mini buses , the local constabulary decided they’d had enough after a few a load of Blades had been drinking outside a pub and things had got a bit giddy , we ended up in the Oldham end as we’d heard they’d shut the away turnstiles, there was Blades in all four sides of the ground .
This was the game I first heard the greasy chip butty song .. memorable away trip 👍⚔️

Having said I was at the game but not on the pitch, I finally looked closely at the photo to see if I recognised a few and did a double take, thought the guy top left, dark longish hair and tache was me. It wasn't I'm not losing it, I didn't go on the pitch and I was in that section behind the goal with you two behind the fencing. As you say a few took a bit of a beating, but after the game on the seafront there seemed to be plenty of retribution being dished out.

Started with blades running the youngsters on the pitch then a few Brighton lads popped in the pitch and things changed. Once the tide had turned the the youngsters got back on the pitch. Blades fans had trouble getting back into the north east enclosure.

Can’t believe the 5-4 game is more than 30 years ago...jeez where did the years go? 😱😂

Are they doing to okikoki? Hardest dancers I've ever seen
