Player Suggestion Eberechi Eze

Oddly enough was talking to a QPR fan on Thursday who wanted to see Eze in the prem and thought United would be an ideal fit. I said I wasn't sure he'd come , 'London lad' and all that. He also said Freeman was a great player but we'd outgrown him already (we were his(the supporter's) Prem side, teamwork making the dream work). So I'm sure this has been speculated on already but Freeman for Eze and how much would it cost us, another £10m?

Not sure about Eze as ready for PL football yet but definitely a talent. Maybe they'd accept Freeman in part exchange?

Ask yourself a question: do you want to return to 3412?

If you do, then we need a player or 2 like Eze - if you want to stay with 352, then there isn't a place for Eze, as there hasn't been for Freeman.

Bring Eze in and keep Freeman, then we have 2 players for the no:10 roll and McG which means we could if needed play 2 x No 10's. There's no point having just Eze as the no:10 - if we set our stall out to play 3412 in most games. There has to be 2 or 3 to play that position if 3412 is our go to formation next season.

Are we as a club considering returning to CW/AK preferred formation of the previous 3 years? It's quite fundamental.

Solid point this! I think bottom line is we have to be able to play in a multitude of ways. We've seen CWAK change formations in game however to be able to start with a 3412 against opponents we think are weaker, and tear them apart then revert to a 352 for game management would likely require some adjustments on the training ground. Thankfully we have a core group of players who have played both and seem tactically intelligent.

I also think Mo Besic would be a solid acquisition to protect the game or just assassinate oppo players. If you just sign square pegs to fit in your square holes then you're limiting yourself to potentially one way of playing...

Maybe that's cool and what CWAK want. I will trust them wholeheartedly whatever they decide

Like you say the signings will show our intended formation next season.
Me personally I don’t see how we finish higher than 7th without investing in players.

This formation has sent us to7th in first season so the formation is absolutly fantastic. Now we need better players to make it better.

Agreed - and CW would endorse your comment about "pushing the club forward"

The issue we've got with players at the moment is that virtually everyone is a hero to someone because of where we have come from and the "journey".

We do need better players to progress with the aim (for me) is to establish ourselves as a top 10 club every season. That simply has to be the aim.

The very good clubs defend with 4 and still push fullbacks on - our size and stature may mean we have to do it differently with the basis of a back 3, but i am not convinced we can do it with a flat 5 and 2 up top. For me, Berge is the key with whoever is to his left - possibly Fleck for 2 to 3 years and a NEW no:10 to allow better attacking options but with the ability to drop to a back 5 or a midfield 5 as and when needed.

CW/AK don't appear to stand still with formations and tactics - they will for sure be formulating something new and the alleged interest in Cantwell and Eze seems to suggest a more attacking formation.

I think the one player type we are really.missing someone in the midfield 3 who can go past players and pull the opposition centre halves out of position creating space for the centre forwards.

I think playing Berge in the deep role would give us more more options as he can get forward whereas Norwood just sits in front of the centre halves. Id have Fleck left of centre and the position id be looking to fill is Lunnys with someone who can take players on.

That may be Eze, I don't know but if we don't fill that position its going to put even more pressure on Enda and Baldock next season as opposition managers try and make sure those 2 are shut down. They was something Leicester did very effectively and we didn't have an outlet as a result

Whoever we sign I'm confident CWAK have thought about where and how they would play in the team.

The challenge next season is how can we add goals whilst still being solid at the back.

We cannot be a top 10 club with 20th place investment mate. You can only be a top 10 club if your spending at least fairly substantial. Teams like West Ham will spend £100m next season eventually these teams will get it right and be ahead of us.

Apart from this season of course! :)

It will be interesting to see what sort of level of business Leeds do over summer

But they waste a lot of that money - eg: Numerous examples at Villa - Engels/Wesley/Mings/Tarrgett to name 4. West Ham - again, numerous to mention with Haller top of the list at £45m. Newcastle with Joelinton at £40+m.

I don't believe we would do that sort of thing: CW & AK are getting the reputation of being teachers of up and coming footballers.

Hopefully we can do it a bit differently and spend wisely - we'll still have to spend, we'll just have to be better at it. It's a tough ask to keep doing it this way.

The only thing you can bet your life on is that every year a team will spend millions and it won’t improve them. Most seasons there’s more than one.
Also, don’t look at the league but ourselves and Burnley aren’t exactly top 10 spenders on transfers or wages.

They'll stay up easy. Villa (& Fulham) brought in crap, Villa only signed Heaton as somebody I'd have taken here, maybe Mings at a push also.

Look at the quality Leeds bring in at Championship level.
They may indeed, I’m just saying throwing money about means nothing and they need to improve several key areas.

Leeds will spend big on quality players that add to what they have like Wolves. They'll survive by a big margin.

Not so sure myself. They're already tied-in to pay well over the odds for Costa and Augustin. I too think they'll spend a fair bit but I could quite easily see them become the next Fulham, Villa.

David Ornstein at The Athletic reporting that West Ham and Palace are the main contenders for Eze. Moyes was at Loftus Road on Saturday watching him (separate thought - love the idea of David Moyes sat socially distanced on his own, binoculars out, not very discrete at all). Also says QPR would like £20 million for him but they'd probably have to accept a lot less. No mention of us.

It’s like me buying loads of quality camera equipment, all the gear but no idea. I’ve got the best equipment but can’t make it all work together to take outstanding pictures.
Think managers like Smith and Moyes might get millions and buy reyt good players but can he make them work together to be the best? That’s CWAk’s gift, they can do David Bailey with an disposable camera and a flashlight.

Question is will HRH expect CWAK to do it season after season on a low budget? If he does (like McCabe did) we will be back to L1 before we know it, this is our big chance.

No surprise here, always thought he'd stay in London. Pretty sure he's been courting Tottenham most of the season.

Unless we change formation, just don’t see where he fits in here.

Leeds are no better than they were last season, and they finished behind us and norwich

I agree tbh. They've already committed to spending £17m on Costa and are trying to get out of the Augustin deal as he has hardly featured.

They'll definitely spend some money but doubt it will be on the Fulham or Villa level.

Signings like this will help us change formations.
We are crying out for more creativity through the middle.
Don't get me wrong he doesnt fit into our current system (at all with the sounds of him) but next season our plan B and C needs to be stronger than it was last week.
